There is a huge problem in the Americas. The Darien Gap. Right now there is not a single road connecting north america with south america.

We should be building this infrastructure up. There are hardly anyone living there and with FARC rebels stopping their chimping out as much we can connect America.

Right now, USA, Canada, and Mexico etc are not connected with Chila, BRazil Argentina. We could build big ass rail or at least a highway to connect. Instead we have a shithole jungle and dumb people who want to keep it that way.

The Millau Viaduct is a plausible concept to base the solution on. However, the bridge pictured is 1.5 miles long. It would take a bridge of between 60 and 100 miles in length to cross the Darien Gap. So assuming only 80 miles of bridge at 500 million for each 1.5 mile segment, the total cost would be about 27 billion dollars. And the toll for the bridge would be about 500 dollars to pay for the bridge.

Engineering wise, it can be done. Financially though, it makes little sense except as a prestige project.

We ought to make the Pan-American highway at least 4 lanes, median divided, from Fairbanks to Puerto Montt.

Ditto for rail, building at least a triple track link between Chile/Argentina and the USA needs to be a priority for the US.

The bridge in the picture is a four lane expressway, if you want to connect the Americas, you need at least two lanes in both directions from Brownsville, Texas to maybe Bogota, Santiago, or Buenos Aires. Not sure where to go from the gap down south, but you can't deny that a huge road project needs to happen along with this "bridge" and the gap isn't a huge pit, it's just a wide valley with violent spics in it.
