What was the purpose of making the MC an adult and using the whole "ReLife" type setting (the fact that the setting is pretty retarded and doesn't make sense in the first place aside)?

This show doesn't really work as a wish fulfilment fantasy. You don't travel back in time to undo your past mistakes, you don't become young again and get a second chance at life. You only get a certain amount of time to relive one of the shittiest phases of life, only to be rewarded with a fucking job.

For some people that's a pretty big reward. Also having all your expenses paid for a year is fantastic.

A bigger plot hole is how the whole ReLife program is set up, but the point remains that this show doesn't really offer a wish-fulfilment setting. Given how many hours you spend in school 'living expenses' being covered is a pitiful wage.

cause traditionally in Japan you worked for your company your whole life and were expected to never change employers, let alone careers. That is starting to change now but it still isn't like the west where most people change careers at least once in their life. To Japanese companies this signals that you are flaky unreliable and not loyal to the company so they won't even give you a chance.

I remember having watched a documentary in the early 00s about the Japanese work place having changed. Only few are getting the positions at Japanese companies where they're essentially set up for life. Plenty of people work under temporary contract conditions, often not hired by the company itself but through sub-contractors. It's especially bad for poorly educated people who are almost exclusively Freeters.
