/SIG/ - Self-Improvement General - Meditation Edition

Hey, It is Self Improvement General - Meditation Special Edition

Why You should start meditating.

1) It helps in fighting addiction better, than any other method that exist:
jamanetwork.com/journals/jamapsychiatry/fullarticle/1839290

- "At the 6-month follow-up, however, both RP and MBRP participants had a significantly reduced risk of relapse to drug use and heavy drinking compared with TAU participants, with RP showing an advantage over MBRP in time to first drug use. Among participants reporting alcohol use, MBRP and RP participants reported significantly fewer days of heavy drinking compared with TAU participants. At the 12-month follow-up, MBRP participants reported significantly fewer drug use days and higher probability of not engaging in heavy drinking compared with RP participants."

2) It grows prefrontal cortex(concentration and attention) and decrease gray matter in Amygdala(stress) and decrease feeling of pain
blogs.scientificamerican.com/guest-blog/what-does-mindfulness-meditation-do-to-your-brain/

"MRI scans show that after an eight-week course of mindfulness practice, the brain’s “fight or flight” center, the amygdala, appears to shrink. This primal region of the brain, associated with fear and emotion, is involved in the initiation of the body’s response to stress."

"As the amygdala shrinks, the pre-frontal cortex – associated with higher order brain functions such as awareness, concentration and decision-making – becomes thicker."

2a) Increasing Attention and lowering stress:

journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0064574

2b) Lower feeling of pain:

sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0304394012004806

Other interesting qoute: "Other studies on expert meditators – that is, subjects with at least 40,000 hours of mindfulness practice under their belt – discovered that their resting brain looks similar, when scanned, to the way a normal person’s does when he or she is meditating."

3) Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) May Prevent And Treat Depression

thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(14)62222-4/abstract

"Professor Kuyken conducted a study which found that MBCT helped to prevent depression recurrence as effectively as maintenance antidepressant medication did."

4) Mindfulness Meditation Improves Cognition

s3.amazonaws.com/academia.edu.documents/39616081/Mindfulness_meditation_improves_cognitio20151102-1793-1onmb2t.pdf?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAIWOWYYGZ2Y53UL3A&Expires=1507023575&Signature=skzm7yAwTdLn3igRxqLNfeM3nQg=&response-content-disposition=inline; filename=Mindfulness_meditation_improves_cognitio.pdf

"In a 2010 study published in Consciousness and Cognition Journal, researchers assigned 24 people in the intervention group. They received four sessions of mindfulness meditation training. The control had 25 people, and this group listened to an audio book. Results showed that both the mindfulness meditation training group and the control group showed improved mood, but only meditation training reduced fatigue and anxiety and increased mindfulness. Moreover, brief mindfulness training significantly improved visuo-spatial processing, working memory and executive functioning. Researchers concluded, “Our findings suggest that four days of meditation training can enhance the ability to sustain attention; benefits that have previously been reported with long-term meditators.”"

5) Mindfulness Meditation Help The Brain Reduce Distractions

news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2011/04/turn-down-the-volume/

“brain cells use particular frequencies, or waves, to regulate the flow of information in much the same way that radio stations broadcast at specific frequencies. One frequency, the alpha rhythm, is particularly active in the cells that process touch, sight and sound in the brain’s outermost layer, called the cortex, where it helps to suppress irrelevant or distracting sensations and regulate the flow of sensory information between brain regions.”

So Anons,
What do you think of (mindfullness) meditation?
Do you meditate?
Would you like me to post tips how to start meditating

Learning to meditate means learning to watch. Simply watch the events of your life, you can start with your breath if you must.

Tips, yes...yes i like the sound of that.

Hey, first exercise is from this article:

blogs.scientificamerican.com/guest-blog/what-does-mindfulness-meditation-do-to-your-brain/

"As you read this, wiggle your toes. Feel the way they push against your shoes, and the weight of your feet on the floor. Really think about what your feet feel like right now – their heaviness."

After you have done that, respond to my comment and I will post second exercise - my own.

This

Sup Forums is a place where you can find a lot of redpilled high IQ people, so it's a nice place to form a self-improvement redpilled group. Nothing wrong with that.

where i'm at
>neet loser starting from nothing trying to climb out of the hole that i have dug for myself
>day 5 of no fap
>still smoking
>cant remember the last time i drank alcohol

High IQ Redpilled memers lmao

Go and lurk /fit/

Their memes are pretty spicy and once you learn to sort the wheat from the chaff you're all good. Also good to surround yourself with people who are striving themselves. They're quite supportive as long as you read the sticky.

I prefer anonymity, Sup Forums might be massively archived but at least I'm just an ignorable Australian flag.

I actually have been meditating for 10 years and near daily the last 4-6.

I want to join

Just send a mail to the mail adress linked above mate

>I drink at least 3 times a week

Its not that bad r-right?

Wow, that's great. Can you tell something more?

How did it influence your life, how have you started?

>meditating
>not praying

Enjoy your demons

Well your body got used to it i'd say so it's just less bad.
Still shit imo, lots of sugar and the alcohol is always nocive.

>god has a plan
>i can request changes to it

Any good guides to meditation? I've been doing 20 minute sessions of trying to think about nothing on a daily basis, feels okay but I'd like to have more info if it could help.

Zealot btfo gg

It is okay if you do it socially and you can stop.

Meditation can help you if you have problem with stopping

I want to fix my diet and I've been watching food/diet/health youtube for the last week, I decided to be a vegan for better health and longer life

my problem is that there's a million different opinions and can't find the ultimate diet, in terms of micros and macros, and number of calories. I've seen a guy on youtube who only eats one 1200cal meal a day and nothing else and is buff as fuck

anyone here into one meal a day/intermittent fasting?

Meditatiion is easy. Start with a short timer and work up, the below is an easy 10-12 minutes:

1. Get comfortable (ideally seated without your back resting against anything, hands in your lap) and close your eyes gently. Leaving them half open is fine too, but leads to easier distraction.
2. First focus literally on the sensation of your breath coming in as you breath. For every full in-out breath mentally count '1', '2', etc.
3. Any time you lose count, gently bring your attention back to the breath and start again.
4. When you reach ten, focus on the pause between in and out breaths, then ten again, then the out breath, then the pause between the out and in breath, then the sensation of breathing on the tip of your nose, then just breath until your timer is up.

Meditation can help you with all of those stuff

>r/the_trump browser redditors
>High iq

I know you're joking but words do have power mate, if you consider yourself a geek because you browse Sup Forums, etc that's what you'll be.

But I think Sup Forums is a community with one of the highest average IQ on earth.

(OP)
Meditation is for faggots who fap to asian thinkers. Go get a fucking life and pray to God, you fucking weeaboo

Skip breakfast (black coffee/tea only until lunch time), your body will adjust after a few days.
Work out your TDEE and go below by up to 750kcal per day or so if you need to slim down.
Avoid as much as possible, anything which is pre-made or formulated - ideally either eat the base ingredients (cooked or prepared however), or make your own 'meals'.

Why not make an IRC room or something?

Fuck making an account, and opening a tab in my browser every time I want to check in.

/fit/ is low iq.. bb isn't information intensive, especially if you have a small number of good guys to follow.

>How did it influence your life,
It can be habit forming, if you don't like people looking at your phone on public transport it can feel like a good idea...

>how have you started?
Read books, surfed the internet

Mindfulness in plain English is basically the best thing for beginner meditation, a lot of the other stuff I researched were really a lot of metaphors and imagery for what you all want.

There's none of the meme'y stuff though, like the Kali Yuga..

>incorporating Christianity into meditation
Haha that's fun

Yes, I have 133 and 153 IQ(two different scales)

>Socialise regularly
>Work out regularly
>Eat a diet of mostly vegetables with meat
>Don't drink often, only on weekends
>Several creative and constructive hobbies
>Don't watch porn
>Don't do drugs

>Wake up distressed and angry every day

I blame lifting, honestly. My muscles ache and I find myself stretching and flexing constantly without realising it, whether I am alone or with others. If I don't lift for a while, I start to get incredibly uptight and unable to focus. What the fuck is a guy to do?

Yeah man, I have been looking up lots of shit about that.
Consider Raw-foodism and fructivorism before all.

Drinking nice raw milk is better than eating white bread with Nutella or shit like this.

to be fair, you need to have a really high IQ to go to Sup Forums

nigga, I don't have a phone. Much less a smartphone.

Meditation was widely used by our indo-europeans ancestors, Christianity in Europe nearly outlawed it, but in the diffrent Asian sects it was keeped, so thats why you think it's aisan. But it's not.

I obviously really want to get back to where i was and beyond

thought about joining catholic church, family never was religious, although not atheist. never went to church

>zero friends, but because all school friends are drug addict scumbags, in rehab, or prison

Good, means you're superior to them.
Join the group we'll share ideas about self improving ourselves.
You can join some churches but don't end up giving them your money and believing their dogmas, the good atmosphere and the nice people to speak with can be good though.

Doing gods work user, i meditated for the first time a while ago. it was the most peaceful surreal feeling i've experienced to date, since then i've been trying to fit it into my every day routine

Nice to have such a feeling at the start, you must have some good predispositions

>can't find the ultimate diet,
There is no ultimate diet senpai, but mediterranean and japanese probably have the best ones, I suggest you pick one or mix them both, but remember, your body was made by nature to survive and thrive on everything and anything available, so just getting good quality fresh ingredients and avoiding sugar and pre processed food, will get you pretty far

The guy on youtube who says he only eats 1200kcal a day is lying, unless he's cutting of course, but your body really needs more than 2000kcal a day to function properly (shit like keeping you warm and your brain operating need a ton of energy) even more than that if you do something other than sitting around all day

aryanalibris.com/index.php?
Check this shit, it has myriads of books covering nearly all subject, just search meditation for example. books are in french and english.
Better website you won't find

Only God exists, Satan is the evil that humans do, like a recurring character in a recurring story it exists only by virtue that people keep playing it or justifying it.

Church can be sjw, maybe knuckle down for STEM degree or get a trade, you'll meet plenty of people like that. Sleep cycle is regular for neets, avoid sunrise.

Christianity is decent, but I've always assumed it was complex because I was personally hand held through it. The book of Luke is basically what's written for what's closest to the modern day reader, even then you have to understand the way people talked and the ways it's been mistranslated.

True, also look to your genetics to know what you can process easily.
Tropical negroes can live on vegetables and fruits only.
The caucasian hillmen have reportedly had huge lifespan and longer youth by having a high fermented milk, goat meat diet.

I might add that you shouldnt conduct conclusions based on studies but more on living examples (Primitives men, etc)

Thanks, great, what type of meditation are you practicing?

>that haircut
I prefer to stay """before /SIEG/"""

>my muscles ache
Are you new to lifting? It's completely normal if you are
>I find myself stretching and flexing constantly without realising it
Same. Whats wrong with that though?
>If I don't lift for a while I get incredibly uptight and unable to focus
Then keep lifting. Lift roughly every 2nd day. You will need those days in between to recover.

I start to feel a bit shitty too some days when I'm not training so even on rest days I make sure to get 10 minutes of yoga in there somewhere.

Find a good routine that doesn't kill you every single day but isn't easy work either. If you don't like your routine change it up. Constantly experiment with it and think outside the box. Just do what makes you feel good and don't limit your training to just lifting weights.

I am not new to lifting, the ache isn't a painful ache, it's like I am constantly tense.

What does believing in fairy tales have to do with self-improvement?

" A fine head of hair makes the handsome more comely to look upon, and the ugly more terrible."

>science

Iktf.

Meditation or some breathing exercises could be right up your alley then. I didn't even notice how constantly tense my neck and shoulders were until I started doing breathing exercises.

>He doesn't know what meditation means and he thinks it's some Dragonball Z shit

whats with all the plebs?

>Understand and Use your mind so it will work better
it's simple yet so complicated

Yes, in some ways it is. But it gets very easy once you start doing it.

About to drop some big money on water filtration as my house has really shitty oxidized water (have had literal rusty brown showers in the past). The system, Kangen Water I'm looking into seems scammish but it has really good reviews and while there aren't scientific papers on the systems (yet?) it does seem logical with what it claims to do

>Filters water (ofcourse)
>ORP water changed from +300 or more value into the -200 to -400 range
>adjustable Ph level, recommends very basic Ph of 9.5 for drinking

The model I want costs 4.5k though so I'm heaps unsure. They offer financing but I dunno if I should do that.

I just need some non-shit water in my life

generation identity

It is popular in France and Germany

In this order, I've already kicked a 3 year long, crippling opiate addiction and have stayed clean for 2 years, I've vastly improved my diet in every way imaginable, lost a bunch of weight and hit my ideal BMI, and stopped smoking after a 10 year long smoking addiction. I'm tired of improving myself, Sup Forums. I just want a nap.

Take a nap then, it's not like naps are bad for you

>after pic has crucifix on wall but also life rune, with Aurelius, Aristotle, Homer and Plato on the bookshelf
Desert religion or way of the ancestors, user: pick one.
>no sign of wife, gf or children
Where's the family life, user? For all we know there's a feminine trap doing the housework there and shemale porn on the computer screen.

Fuckwit the intellectual treasures of the pagans are like the gold and silver vessels the Israelites took out of Egypt, ready for deployment in the service of the true religion < that's Pope Leo xiii in his encyclical Aeterni Patris you smarmy little cunt

tell that to the brave men at pearl harbour u commie fuck

I have 12 months of DBT ( Dialectical Behavioural Therapy) under my belt. Glad to assist in any way.

What?
This is some next level shitposting, but soldiers take naps all the time, because while on duty you rarely get a good nights sleep
One of my mates that went to afghanistan literally napped through his apc getting hit by an rpg, because of how sleep deprived he was

Fucking died

>gained 25-30 this year after car broke
How?

You might have a point, and yet the bookshelf depicted has a near-total lack of Christian apologetics. The philosophies depicted leapfrog straight from the pagan era to the atheistic "Enlightenment". Christ if you're gonna Christ, but do it properly.
Plus still no excuse for no sign of family.
