>Given its effects on GDP, I'd say it should have lasted longer, as there is an immediate break in economic convergence starting in 1974.

Oppression never lasts long, even when it's light. Just imagine if, in the mid-60's, Salazar started a peaceful hading over of the colonies to the Africans, instead of prolonging the war, which was lost when the US and USSR became involved. No MFA. Not to mention the absurd amount of money financing the war could have been invested in the country, furthering the economic development.

And what if he had peacefully abdicated in favour of democracy around the same time? He would have been able to guarantee the economy wasn't tempered with by commies and socialists, like Pinochet.

Stop romanticizing Salazar. He wasn't all that bad, but also he wasn't all that good.

If you try to get a job at, let's say swatch factory, and the person incharge of hiring is portuguese, they will throw the portuguese CVs away first.
Also if you are living here and trying to emulate the swiss lifestyle to a certain point, you'll be made fun of.
Also most swiss claim portuguese are lazy, but you dont see a swiss person working on a construction site.
In the end it depends if you are on the french side or german side of switzerland, it's like 2 completely different countries culture and ideology wise.

On another note is Coelho btfo?

Não, azeiteiros e brejeiros.

I know they look down on us, and seing the type of people that usually go there, I fully understand why.

Sorry man i'm still studying... i know that's not an excuse but i'm trying to learn current politicas portuguesas. don't rly know

this is stuff like this that makes me love this place. Thank you guys.

I'm an American living in Portugal. It's absolutely lovely here and the majority of people understand English in the city. I can't find any major complaints besides the fact that the food is quite bland and Lisbon is filled with Africans and nasty Brazilians. Other than that, it really is a lovely country and warrants a visit. If I had to live here permanently I'd kill myself though.

Except the youth was already full of commies, so they were bound to end up in politics. Moreover, these ideas came mainly from France. They were not original to us.

>Lisbon
that was your first mistake
