If one of those rounds strikes a hard substance like bone or metal, yes they will fragment. The exit wound can be hard to predict but most of the time it's about the size of a pack of cards.

All kinds of videos testing kill range of different calibers online. They will easily kill at 400+ yards. Doing a lot of damage too. I have seen 45ACP go clear through thick plywood at over 400 yards and that travels at a much lower velocity. About 1/3 less.

Have you ever been to a shooting range in your life before? It's not that hard to distinguish between an AK and an AR when it comes to sound. Of course, variations of the same guns sound similar to each other (although you can hear if a shooter has a flash hider, or other type of muzzle break).
