man I'm not even convinced the comic isn't playing it as something akin to rape. I mean Kanaka is a fucked up person to the point of being the main antagonist, and everything she does is seemingly a coping mechanism for a trauma so bad it would otherwise make her just want to kill everything. this is one of her less harmful and more effective coping mechanisms but to take her at her word as to what function it serves, or interpret any of her relationships as functional and healthy, is extreme surface reading
Kevin Bell
Kanaka didn't have trauma, she was like that to begin with. And she died while protecting her son. What we see now is most likely dead god or she act under its curse or being possessed by dress amasogi.
Jason Campbell
No kanaka was damaged from the beginning ever since she lost her parents (Where the story begins). But the dead god she attracted, along with the dress amasogi that was malevolent from the beginning exasperated the problem.
Andrew Barnes
The story begins when amasogi tried to possess her. When she refused, he burned her house. You should reread that chapter. Also, it's not a rape if the hymen is intact.

What kind of object is she (him) again? How do you think he feels when people are disappointed that he's not like her?
