Why is Subaru so useless?

He could use his power to reset to learn how to fight, just like the guy played by Tom Cruise in Edge of Tomorrow.

This MC doesn't deserve to win, he is fucking stupid.

Because that would make devolve inhto Kirito and no one likes Kirito.

Seriously its better to be dumb than an abomination like Kirito

subaru doesn't control his resets.

he would have to kill himself over and over hoping he has more than 99 lives.

He is extremely afraid of dying being stabbed. To learn how to fight, he would be stabbed hundreds of times. Altough i think that he should had fought to death that time with Julius, to learn his moves like he did with the Felt's client from the firsts episodes.

...

But that's literally the plot of Edge of Tomorrow/All you need is Kill

The main character keeps dying over and over until he learns how to wreck shit. His only control over his power is his death. Just like Subaru.

In a previous episode he already embraced his death reset to save Rem's life, why would he not do the same to save Emilia and the villagers?
Wasn't the whole point of last episode that Subaru had gained a new level determination and focus? Why is he still acting just as pathetic as before?

I swear this show is some kind of masochists porn.

yeah but that would make him overpowered and his character will become shonen trash

He has no way of knowing that his revives are infinite

His body returns to a previous state he was in. Even if he learned to use a sword, the witch cult can cast spells, and Betelgeuse has freaking invisible hands that cut and crush what they touch if he wants.

He can't learn magic because his gate is fucked and it would take more days of fixing it for it to return to normal. And even then his mana reserves are fairly shit.

What would the Chosen Undead do in his place?

> He has a chance to save lives
> Doesn't take it because he might die
There are still people who believe in dying.

Dying is painful, can you believe it!?

There are many other ways to succeed that don't involve direct combat. He has an infinite amount of time, before his next checkpoint, to find a satisfying timeline.

Now I don't want this to turn into another "all you need is kill" story, but I would at least like him to acknowledge his potential power and consider it when making decisions. At the moment he's just bumbling about.

because he doesnt belong in that world. this is a deconstruction user

Yet he has already shown himself willing to an hero in order to prevent certain events. I would have thought after the whole mess of suffering that happened last episode he would have been more open to the idea of suicide since his usual floundering has proven useless.

Be very careful and develop a phobia of fog.

He is learning how to fight. Did you not see the sword training?

How exactly then? For one, he doesn't want anyone to die, and it's only him and Rem.

The cult is strong as shit and is not rational and wishes to kill everyone, and they clearly are organized to an extent. How do you approach this situation to win? The whale in the road is also a problem, he can't reach the mansion fast enough and the other way takes 2,5 days, and the whale will kill those who go through the road.

>Reset powers
>Doesn't become the ultimate Renaissance man through lifetimes of study and painless suicide methods

Clearly he doesn't love Emilia like Phil Connors loves Rita Hanson.

Offing yourself when just a few things go wrong is retarded. Trying to make the best of what he still has and gathering information is his best choice and might save him from having to an hero.

The most surprising thing is that there's still people expecting Subaru to act rationally at this point. Subaru is stupid, insane, traumatized and mad as fuck. What do you honestly expect?

Who says he has infinite lives?

Find a petrified dragon dick and swing it around

The thing is Phil has a fixed savepoint.

Toyota doesn't have one. If he tries to continue after the deaths of his companions the save point might move which would fuck his ideal timeline up.

He literally only has the few days to learn something new and formulate plans before tragedy strikes.

git gud

If he were to fully abuse his curse he could spend an eternity learning everything little thing about the major players in the kingdom and use that information to manipulate them into achieving his goals. It being a magical world I would assume powerful magical artifacts exist which could also be learned of and found/stolen within the infinite amount of time he has.

Even if he doesn't go full munchkin he could at least be aware that he could just reset his day if he bombs spectacularly like he did in this episode. In episode 7 it shows that subaru is willing to kill himself to fix bad outcomes, but since then he has completely forgotten this.

His save point isn't fixed.

If he uses eternity to learn everything the save point might move.

Given that this is a fantasy setting too he wouldn't even be able to go far in say a span of reliving 3-4 days because of the backwoods tech.

No one, but no one has also said he doesn't.

The problem with this is that there's no certainties with his power. He could fuck up immensely like he did today, and then the reset point could then move to right after he talked to the candidates.

>If he were to fully abuse his curse he could spend an eternity learning everything little thing about the major players in the kingdom

1. Why would the witch let him do this?
2. How do you get this info in 2-5 days time?
3. What if it doesn't fucking matter?

Take the souls of the five contestants
and kindle his waifu

Training is useless if you've got your body reset. And his fucked up gate prevents him from training magic.
Edge of tommorow specifically had robosuits introduced as plot point to get around that.

>Spend an eternity

There's your first problem. That's easier said than done, do you seriously think that wouldn't fuck with a person's mind? He's stop being himself if he actually even managed to start on that shit.

Said magical items and other things you speak off would be also fairly hard, he only has a few days, and the info he could gather is limited, and is not like they'd allow him to find out about it in the only 3 days he has.

His save point is also not fixed, he'd be scared shitless of trying to spend more than he currently did in terms of days, only to find out the checkpoint moved forward he doesn't reset his day, he resets to an unspecified point and the reasons are not known.

Also he is not willing to kill himself. He hesitated A LOT. In case you forgot, he reached the cliff in daytime, and slept there until dusk. Only after he found out Rem and Ram weren't heartless and were only acting out against him due to suspicion did he take the jump, because for one the timeline was fucked already, and he was going to get killed by Ram, so he choose the way that would hurt less, but he does not want to die.

It's temporarily fixed until he goes past a certain amount of time or until whoever is setting the checkpoints wants him to move on. Until those points he has a few days to do whatever he wants for potentially an infinite amount of time. He is also currently in one of the biggest cities in the world so his potential for knowledge and tech is very high. Since those in the city also think he is Emilia's knight he has access to many important people and areas. Subaru's current save point is the best he's had so far in the show.

>If he were to fully abuse his curse he could spend an eternity
He doesn't know that it lasts forever.
He does know that each time he dies the witches smell gets stronger.
His deaths aren't free. And even so, killing yourself isn't easy, even if you do just come back to life.

>He is Emilia's knight

He isn't. Did you forget how she herself stated that in front of the council? Even Roswaal played it off as "he doesn't know much about how things are around here".

Everyone knows he's just a butler for Roswaal that talks too much.

>From top to bottom she looked at Subaru as if tasting him, finally clapping her hands together as if giving approval. Feeling the gaze Subaru subconsciously moved to cover himself with his hands, twisting his body as if trying to escape.

>No, stop it~. Just because I’m a boy, if you stare at me like that I’ll get embarrassed you know.

>Don’t say that, honey. You’ve got a pretty good body there, no needless meat. So much so if you weren’t already somebody’s property I’d have a taste myself.

Why isn't Ferris this lewd in the anime?

Since he already went to the edge of madness and back I would have thought his aversion to death would have softened quite a bit, especially since he now knows just how bad the potential future is.

why are cats always sluts?

Even if Subaru learned how to fight he'd never get physically stronger and even Rem would be able to take him. Tom Cruise just needs to get used to his power armor and Subaru has solved his problems far quicker than Cruise did, dude looped a few hundred times.
Being strong doesn't matter anyway as it's quicker to get someone strong to help him and what he needs right now is an army.
Also the aliens in the edge of tomorrow used the same strategy in every life he lived, the exact same number come at him from the exact same side.
It would be really boring if that worked for Subaru anyway.

If only there was a quick and relatively painless death in fantasyland.

It's exactly because he came back, that he doesn't want to return. If you start not caring about your own well being that much even after bad shit happened and you can't exactly die. Doesn't mean you want to taste that pain again.

Emilia says he isn't her knight, but it hasn't been completely clear in following episodes that everyone else believes that. Other characters have called Subaru her knight and even comment that his hysterics are an effective trick suggesting they still believe he is working for Emilia in some way.

Reminder that Tom Cruise would've saved everyone by now

They know he works as a butler in the mansion she's being hosted at that. That's what they mean by working for Emilia, since she clearly cared enough to run off and stop the fight, means he is cared by her.

The whole "you're her knight" is played off as a joke by those who saw it.

He was an army guy from the start, he had enough physical abilities. The only thing he needed to learn was how to use the power armor.

Subaru is literally a weak neet.

>Throwing her arms out She wrapped around Subaru’s neck and snuggled up next to him.

>“Uh, eh, eeeh!?”

>“Don’t move. I’m checking something out right now.”

>Since they were about the same height, her face was now right next to Subaru’s. Her voice whispering directly into Subaru’s ear, his whole body felt like it was being tickled. His face turned red from the sensation. He looked to his surroundings for help, finding Rem loitering near the mansion’s entrance he instantly turned pale.

>She had on a blank face, one could see from afar she was unconcerned with what was happening. Towards the now gasping Subaru, Rem gestured her hands in a small mincing motion. It wasn’t like this gesture had any meaning in particular, but the intent was clearly conveyed to Subaru.

What is this male cat?

Would you drink her piss from a teacup?

So hey, i know we're trying to think how the characters are thinking and all that, but what was up with Subaru asking about someone who was never there in the first place near the end? Is he going insane?

>Dies over and over.
>Doesn't update his journal once.

Don't really get accusations that Subaru is selfish. If he were, he'd just fuck off and let Emilia and the entire village die

They made it a point in the movie to show that Cruise was in fact not an army guy, just a pretty boy the army was using for propaganda commercials

Ya'll promised me Subaru would break out his spoon this episode. Did they cut it out to keep from being completely unlikable?

>A while later, Subaru returned to his room to find Ferris lounging around inside. After some failed attempts by Ferris to tease him with cutesy gestures, the two began the treatment process, however Rem noticed that Ferris was acting suspiciously, causing her to join the process, eventually making him stop for the day. However, before he left, Ferris told Rem that it wasn't entirely a lie that he did what he did out of consideration for Subaru. Not understanding what the problem was, Subaru asked her what happened, which she answered by telling him that since the mana across his body had been receiving interference from Ferris, it made him prone to accepting whatever he said.

No seriously, what is this catman?

He's self centered. He's not a bad person really, but is fairly flawed in some aspects.

Wtf is opening all those fucking threads for a shitty anime.

>there is no respectable middle ground between "incompetent sperg" and "gary stu"
>you need to remain a cringe-lord, the second you try to do anything useful or smart with your reset power you somehow become overpowered and ruin this oh so subtle plot

Re:Zerofags everyone

They cut it out so it wouldn't be spammed on Sup Forums forever

because he's a gamer

>Dear diary, today my friend was horribly contorted into a nightmarish figure and died after crawling into my arms with her head and telling me she loves me
>I hope she doesn't die as horribly next time
>Truly in despair -- Subaru

Yeah

Literally just ignore.

Also this isn't a general board.

No that was because the White Whale consumes memories after killing people, only subaru remembers because he's from another world.

Because Mitsubishi exists

Phil looped hundreds of times before he decided to improve himself, then thousands of times to improve. Subaru's looped about a dozen.

yeah... right.. still got his ass kicked and it still as weak as shit.. his only power is to annoy everyone and make watchers of the anime drop it

No one is saying that. We're basing his actions off of how he has acted already, and he has shown to be self centered most of the time, and still fairly afraid of dying.

He's laos a normal teenage boy, you can't expect him to be that great.

Sure, it's be nice if there was a middle ground, but he's not supposed to be one.

At least try to act along with my joke goddamit.

>...

Fuck off.

Are some people actually expecting that Subaru will become a competent OP fighter and beat everyone?

At this point this series has become akin to a torture porn movie.

People only watch to see the "spectacle" of gore and misfortune that happens due to Subaru's frailties.

I think I'm dropping this. This is just becoming drama for drama's sake. They lingered too much on Subaru's "suffering" with how stupid and naive he can be that at this point it ruined the show for me already.

This show maybe for you masochists and waifufags but this isn't for me.

I've said this before and will repeat until the end of the Re:Zero threads

Subaru is an unlikable tool. If you feel any pity for him, you are what's wrong with the human race

How much will Anastasia charge if I ask to cum inside her?

I'm expecting him to turn into a true villain.

Not much considering you'd be dead if you even tried to get close considering she always has mercs around her.

I pity him you edgelord

See you next week.

What the fuck is even the point of the white whale in the grand scheme of things? We have enough shit going down already with the Royal Selection and the Witch's cult. Does this white whale have any part in any of this or is it here literally just to face fuck remfags repeatedly until it cums blood? Is there a point to its existence other than to cause suffering?

okay

Finally someone speaking some fucking sense. Hope he has to reset so he can use the knowledge he gained from being played by all the empress candidates to teach them some humility

The cultists are attacking because of the whale. It's blocking the main road to Roswaal's mansion so they're using the whale as cover so even if news of their attack is sent, they'd take forever to reach there because teh whale is blocking the fastest route.

The whale is also there, because it got attracted to Subaru's smell.

No really, I've liked anime my anime with the fair share of drama and moodiness like Ryvius and Texhnolyze but I don't just see merit in what Re:Zero is doing.

The power levels kept everyone at the same range of power in EoT, Subaru can't damage shit isn't autistic enough to waste an eternity looping.

Don't worry he will.

Anastasia's teaching were the most valuable honestly. He will set up the "table" before he tries to negotiate next time.

k

>No one is saying that

nigga, plenty of responses in this thread are saying EXACTLY that

etc.

he isn't completely shit, after all he managed to beat some streetrats unarmed
he'll propably get some better darkness spells in the future to become a mid-tier fighter

Seemed like some sort of natural disaster to me. Like a tornado blocking a valley crossing.

I thought Reinhard was the MC?

His suffering is mostly self-inflicted though. He keeps fucking up and because of it he faces concequences. It's an interesting approach to a main character, given that he'll keep suffering (thanks to w/e the spell of rebirth is called) until he actually starts making the right decisions.

The whale isn't going to do anything to Rem.

What happened at the end of that ep? Don't tell me Rem and the merchant buddy who bought oil will stop existing in the next ep?

no, we just expect the plot to not be underwritten and for characters, especially the main one, to have consistent personalities.

If what that the LNfags say is accurate, Subaru gains a weaker version of Sloth's power after he beats him.

What Subaru's doing is pretty consistent though.

...

Tom Cruise spent dozens of loops (implied in the movie) before he started doing things a lot differently.

It would endlessly be used to post at people asking to be spoonfed.

He also was dealing with incredibly more dangerous scenarios than Subaru

But he got his shit together once he realized he could abuse his loops. Subaru seemed to understand the power of his loops in episode 7, but hasn't done shit since then.
