Did you know that Kawamori was supposed to direct a movie called Maimu, that was cancelled half-way during production? The reason given for this is that while he was making it, Kawamori saw Kiki, which suposedly had a lot of similarities to his movie. The shock of finding this out caused him to pass out on the spot.

Did you know that visionary feminist anime director, Ikuhara Kunihiko, refused to let women work at BePapas Studio during a large portion of the production of Utena?
BePapas had an actual physical location where the main staff of the show, such as Mushishi director Nagahama Hiroshi, worked (Saitou Chiho was obviously never in it). Women could come in for meetings, but they weren't allowed to work there permanently because according to Ikuhara, they would "harm the harmony of the staff". Eventually he was so impressed by the work of animator Hayashi Akemi that he allowed her to work there, and other women soon followed. According to her, when she got there the studio was in such a state of neglect that she and a fellow female Yumeta Company animator that came later had to take it upon themselves to clean the sink of kitchen, due to the stench.
