Basic Income

I'm trying to get my mind around the concept of a basic income. When I try to get to the bottom of it, it really does seem like it would incentivize people to do less work overall. It would automatically give millions of people a reason to stop working that shitty job they hate - secretary, data entry, telemarketing, burger flipping, waiting tables, you name it. Those positions would have to be filled either with people that just want something extra to do, or automation. In the end, why would someone even want to own and operate a restaurant/factory/etc if no one will want to/need to work there? And then, where would the money for the basic income even be coming from in the first place?

You need to cut all welfare and entitlement programs... not going to happen very easily.
Bums want their cake.

It's a bunch of NEETs salivating over the idea of money for doing nothing, but it's not going to happen anytime in their youth.

>Those positions would have to be filled
thats your problem right there.
world will survive without mcdonalds.

it's serfdom

i've created an automated online-business that gives me just enough money to survive. i don't work anymore, because there's no point. i don't need or want anything more. with a basic income i wouldn't have made this business, because what's the point if i already had enough money?
basic income is for people who want government to fix their economic failure.

Right, but I'm saying that when you essentially eliminate the incentives for people to keep the economy going, where is the government going to get the money to pay out a basic income to everyone?

What does your online business do?

sell digital goods.
