Is there anyone left on Sup Forums who actually watched Evangelion when it was airing? Could you even do that back then?

It must have been tough times without Horriblesubs helping the anime community thrive so much like it does today.

I remember seeing bits of it on adult swim in like 2004 I think.

does it also count as a metaphor for your existance?

In other words a mistake came out to the world that day, and it wasn't the episode.

Does anyone else think this design is far more aesthetically appealing than those creepy iguananoids Shinji and other use?

Good for you.

No. Eva have top tier designs and this thing is intended to look goofy as hell.

>far more aesthetically appealing
That's kind of the point. This is a slick shiny mecha (or robot, whatever), Evas are barely-restrained retarded monsters.

You look goofy as hell.

>iguanaoids

topkek desu

Neat. 'Rei I' came out the exact day I was born.

Congratulations

No. It looks like a retarded porcupine.

that's two blunders in one day

>This is a slick shiny mecha
Well then you also don't get the point either since it's supposed to look like Borot

Omedetou you shitstain, thanks for leaving your mark on the world!

Don't forget the Jet.

This was possibly the highest-rated animoo when I was born.

It was in the VHS era. It was a very different scene back then.

Some of us still exist.

I puked at your post but then again I'm not sure if it's softly trolling or not.
There's tons of us, maybe many have left the site already but evangelion wasn't that long ago, it's not like a random 60 yo who watched Heidi when it aired, that would be a true unicorn around here.

When it actually aired animu was incredibly niche and you basically got imported low-quality VHS rips with shitty subtitles months after it aired, if you got any subs at all

The first exposure to Evangelion in the US was the english subtitled VHS' released in 1998 by ADV. First TV broadcast was on Adult Swim in 2004, though episode 1 premiered during Toonami's famous giant robot week of 2003.

I am not quite sure if I saw it or not.
I think I remember seeing it on VOX (german TV), but my memory might be playing me.

>I puked at your post

Thank you, although I admit my bait has been getting stale and too transparent recently

Seriously though, it's always interesting hearing oldfags like this guy talk about back then. I'm ambivalent on whether I want to be here long enough to be able to talk about stuff like this in the future though.

Jet Alone was conceived as a fucking dork. It's goofy cool but Yamashita's direct about intending it as something Evas and Angels would push over and steal lunch money from. The point was humans intending to save themselves with their own power and ingenuity and being badly out of their depth.

Fuck off. A completed battle ready hammer weilding JetAlone model could have held himself against at least typical angels and unit02. Even unit 01 struggled to stop it. Fuck nerve for tampering what could have been the savior of humanity.(if nerv only wanted to destroy angels to activate 3rd impact then why sis they hacked jetalone? Because they knew it would fuck them up good if they found out their plans.)

>being badly out of their depth.

It was sabotaged precisely because it might have succeeded. It had nothing to do with any sort of "depth."

RIP

A successful demonstration wouldn't have threatened Nerv, Seele were directing the UN money and they had more in mind for Project E than killing aliens. That was all Gendo.

The whole thing was probably a public relations stunt. The public might be bothered if there were a viable alternative to Eva that wasn't being used in any capacity.
