If you don't count BW, Pokémon only gets better over time. Every new season is better than the last.

It has the best action and animation of any season so far. Ash has something resembling a character arc in XY&Z (though I doubt it will have any lasting implications). Mega-Greninja is cool as fuck. Lemon siblings are enjoyable. Millefeui was enjoyable. Lilia was enjoyable.

Some of the reasons I like it. I wouldn't say it's my favorite though.

If you saw the first two episodes of Pokemon, you already know all you need to know about Ash before watching XY. Start at the last episode of the previous series, though.
