It was more because the PC needed to sometimes guess really, you couldn't see in some cases who really was the culprit in the trials.

Teruteru's trial for example i only discovered it was him in the middle of the trial after noticing he wasn't inside the party room.

And in mikan's trial although i really was suspecting of her i was also suspecting of Gundham because he could have used his hamsters to mess with the insides of the place of the death's.

The trials were harder because the new mechanics sucked. They made Hangman's Gambit worse, introduced the PTA thing that I still don't really understand despite having finished the game and generally made it mechanically worse.

The cool thing about Togami was that he was a bored rich boy.
He took things into his own hands, which was cool.

I don't think you have to guess at any point, you just have to remember things from the Investigation period that weren't written down as truth bullets. In DR2 I figured out pretty much every case when the game asked me to pick a suspect, and in DR1 I figured the murderer out way before the game asked me to, so I much prefered 2's trials.

I didn't figure out Mikan in the third trial. Everything was pointing out at Kazuichi and that he
A) tampered with the cameras
B) lied about not having a record function on them
C) had acess to the spying equipment that he used to spy on Sonia (and thus was aware that Hiyoko would go to the music avenue)

I thought Kazuichi was the culprit in three separate trials. In chapter 1 because I thought him messing with the fusebox and fucking the lights made sense and he was trying to pin the blame on Peko for shirking guard duty. In chapter 3 basically what you said. In chapter 4, especially, the way he was gunning for Hinata as the traitor and being a lot more abrasive, the elevator/clock fuckery, etc, it all pointed to him and Gundam felt like he came out of left field.

Not sure if I'm retarded, or I really just didn't like his character and kept finding reasons to make him out to be the culprit.

I actually suspected Sonia in 4 trials
In chapter 2, she's wearing a full body wetsuit when she shows up at the diner
In chapter 3, she's the one who suggests Hiyoko go to the music venue (iirc)
In chapter 4, she didn't hear the noise, and I knew Nagito wasn't the killer
In chapter 5, she was the last one to appear at the warehouse

Togami is certainly more forgivable than Maizono, Asahina, Leon, Yamada, Celestia and the Despairs. He's never actually harmed a hair on anyone's head.

Nah, unlike weedman, he was way more suspicious with his skills.


Although the fact that he crushed on Sonia was probably the main hint why could never become a murdered. It woudn't be possible for him to get away without killing her.

Only after she was found "attacked" and somehow managed to take a photo of the murderer, it was kind of obvious that she's fucking around.

It had fewer morons in it's cast than DR1 did. Problem was that it killed off more of it's non-morons than DR1 did over the course of the game too.

Nah, the trials in DR1 were just especially weakly written. That's not me knocking DR1 as a whole, it does certain things way better than DR2 does but cases aren't one of them. The atmosphere around them, a lot of the character motives, and so on were great. The mysteries themselves were all sloppily written and in most of them the culprit was near-immediately identifiable and their actions were usually hidden badly.

You discovered enough during the investigation alone to atleast have her as a major suspect (assuming you're not counting how pretty early on in the trial it's made bluntly obvious that the murder must've happened in the hospital, which isolates Mikan as the main suspect)

Are you me? I felt the same way as you for all except in chapter 4, where I was too convinced it was Kazuichi to really suspect anyone else. By chapter 5 it was practically a joke to me where I knew she'd never be guilty despite always being suspicious.

Also, another one for chapter 2, she was oddly obsessed with serial killers.

The only case across both games where at the time I felt that I had to guess was in Nagito's case - and then the game points out that I had a piece of evidence for a while now with which I could've identified the person being talked about

What I actually think the case is here is that some people prefer how DR1 makes mysteries solveable before you even start the trial for the most part
whereas some other people prefer DR2's approach where you have enough to have a list of suspects (including the actual culprit, each case in the game does enough pre-trial for this though sometimes it's well-hidden) and spend a lot of the trial discussing with the rest of the cast what the hell happened

I'm sure some people here will see it as a cop-out way to look at it given how unnecessarily confrontational you guys love being but it really is just a matter of personal preference I think.

DR1 trials were already easy because you could guess the murderer just by looking who got additional screentime during the chapter.

The toughest case in DR2 for me was 4 because I didn't want to believe Tanaka was the killer. 2-5 is still the most fun case though.

SHSL Imposter being disguised as someone who doesn't exist makes no sense and doesn't fit his/her character at all though.

Chiaki obviously existed, she's gonna get massacred by Izuru once the despair goes down. AI Chiaki was based on Real Chiaki in an attempt to help piece back together Hinata's lost memories (assuming he was close to her before becoming Izuru, which first ep seems to already be gunning for).

Trial 1 was pure madness.
I expected Nagito to be the killer because he made it super obvious and i expected the first case to be a complete easy thing like in the first game.

Trial 2 took me a while and at the end the thing was just sad.

Trial 3 was fun to solve but i liked Ibuki and with Mikan going batshit insane it was kinda eh.

Trial 4 was great because it was fun to think about the funhouse architecture. And Tanaka being the big bad was a late realization and so to not easy to take as well. I visited him for his FTL because i liked reading him beyond his image.

And trial 5 was like wild ride like trial 1 but even more amazing. I was thinking the entire time that it was really a simple suicide with some message behind it that could give everyone some important clue towards the end.

I actually suspected Peko in chapter 2 the moment she said she was swimming for 3 hours with no witness and nothing to show for it. But the rest of the pre-trial stuff kept throwing me for loops; I thought it was gonna be Chiaki at first when the game got introduced, I thought it would be Mahiru when she started acting suspicious before she wound up being the victim, I thought it was Sonia like and then I went full-circle back to Peko by the middle of the trial but I actually did buy into her being the serial killer, so I still came out surprised.

Did you ever play Heavy Rain? Because that twist here would be bullshit for the same reason it was there. You can't put us in a character's head and have them lie to us.

I;m starting to think that Naegi is turning into a vegetable when he is not controlled by a player.
In DR1 it take 5 weeks in school mode to have her as your girlfriend. And after all this time + 2-3 years of working with her, he still didn't even scored the first base.

Heavy Rain would have made more sense if they just didn't remove the paranormal aspect.
