Millenials everyone

Home Depot Panics Over Millennials; Forced To Host Tutorials On Using Tape Measures, Hammering Nails
> Home Depot is in full-on panic mode after realizing that an entire generation of Americans have absolutely no clue how to use their products. As the Wall Street Journal points out, the company has been forced to spend millions to create video tutorials and host in-store classes on how to do everything from using a tape measure to mopping a floor and hammering a nail.

>Home Depot's VP of marketing admits she was originally hesitant because she thought some of their videos might be a bit too "condescending" but she quickly learned they were very necessary for our pampered millennials.

Useless cityfaggots are useless.

I'm a city dwelling millenial and I know how to do most domestic tasks as well as basic wilderness survival. I even know cold weather survival.

Their wages are so shit that anyone who knows how to use tools isn't applying at Lowe's/Home Depot in this day and age

>using a tape measure to mopping a floor and hammering a nail
how... how can you be this stupid? I'm genuinely baffled, this just cannot be possible. Mopping? Measuring tape? Hammering nails? Seriously? How do you lack the critical thinking skills to figure that out?

I just get my landlord to do it. Even that little lightbulb above the stove that requires a screwdriver to get into.

>Lowe's

It's like a shittier Home Depot for chicks who aren't even lesbian.

But the "maker movement" is killing industry.

>tfw never used an axe
>tfw never used powertools outside of a small electric drill around the house
>tfw never sharpened any tools
>tfw never smithed something
>tfw can't even saw straight

I thought this was bait. I then watched the video. My day is both ruined and mad.

0 experience. capability is intelligence times experience + resources.

0 experience means 0 results usually.

Like, i know what a hammer and a nail is, but how do i do it PROPERLY?

oh right, it has to be aligned right.
What can i hammer into? , ok not really soft wall material, ok .

etc etc.

>this just cannot be possible.
Did you see any of these millenials? Why do you doubt this. These people are idiots. If there is no "app" for it, they can't do it.

Flag checks.

I shit you not I worked with a young kid and i asked him to mop the floor, He grabbed the mop dry off the rack and started wiping the dirty floor with it, simply spreading the debris around on the floor with a dry mop. I quit the next day.

>I quit the next day.

>THOSE GOD DAMN MILLENIALS JUST WONT STOP!

Its click bait.

YOU JUST HIT THE FUCKING NAIL
But then what about the mopping? Or the measuring tape?

HOW THE FUCKING HELL DO YOU NOT KNOW HOW TO USE MEASURING TAPE?

It's fucking crazy. I hired a kid that comes from a blue collar family. Dad and brother own a somewhat large HVAC company. But the guy I hired needed work, and is the "smart" one in the family, the only one that went to college. The rest of the sons all do mostly HVAC, and building and shit.

I assumed this guy would be able to read a tape, it's pretty damn simple. It's just simple fractions, and he went to college after all. I was mistaken. He had no idea how to read a tape. He could do "a half" but if I asked for a quarter, or eighth, or sixteenth he would shit the bed. I took time out of working to try to explain to him how it worked.
>OK, so you have a number, then here you have a number and a half, then you have half of a half, and half of that and so on. They're all clearly marked by the length of the little lines on the tape.
He still had no fucking clue what was going on. What the hell are they teaching these kids in college?

youtube.com/watch?v=GDE8R51FqJw

>?
What the fuck is this? An "art project"? I'm so fucking confused by this. No way the group is this stupid.

Next we'll have videos on how to stir a pot or how to boil water.

fucking lol, im dead.

We already do. Search youtube

...

Do they not have fathers? I barely do shit around the house but know how to operate a manual staple gun, paint walls, change furnace filters, install drywall, exc. just from helping with home improvement projects. And this is coming from someone who is a vidya nerd virgin loser.

I'm no stranger to a measuring tape but I still fuck up when it comes to fractions of an inch.

>thinking home Depot/Lowes will be in business in 15 years

>What the hell are they teaching these kids in college?
why you should feel bad for being white

This is a bad thing.

>owning your own home

I too enjoy taking out a mortgage so the big Jew creditors can make 100k in interest off of me while I spend 30 years to pay this off

I will admit when I worked at Home Depot I once held the tape measure in the wrong hand. My manager taught me a valuble lesson: "always keep the ball in your hand.". I knew the increments i just didn't hold it in the right hand consistantly.

They really dont know how to use tape measures and hammering nails?!
But I like going to home depot

Ikea-eque alternatives will fill the gap.

This. I'm not too skilled (I can't do anything with a car but drive it) but I know how to use a hammer, tape measure, concrete grinder, I can install flooring, etc.

>Do they not have fathers?

Of course not, their mothers divorced their fathers, and took their home and half their shit. And they don`t allow their fathers to visit.

If there were a disaster and the government were giving canned food, millennials would die starving.

It feels good to stand out as a millennial who's actually an adult. People seriously need a video on how to use a tape measure? You can learn how to use one by simply picking one up.

I took woodshop. I know how to prevent kickbacks.

>i just got hired at home depot corporate

Learn cars bro. They're relatively simple machines. Ay least be able to do the basics. Noone is asking you to change your head gasket. Or pull the transmission apart. But at least learn normal maintenance activities.

highschool is harder then college

>4% annual interest rate
>4% annual appreciation

If you rent out a room or two you can live paying anywhere from half to none of the mortgage, and the money you do pay in you get back when you sell the house. The interest is offset by appreciation and as a bonus if you get a fixed rate the bank gets to eat the depreciation of their loan via inflation.

This is somewhat true, depends on the major

This can't be real. How the fuck do you not know how to use a tape measure and hammer a nail in, or better yet mop a floor? I know a good chunk of people are dumb but do you expect me to believe that they cannot accomplish some of the most simple tasks possible? What's next, lectures on how to boil water? How to use a fucking microwave?

No wonder civilization is collapsing.

Umm . . . tape measures work whether you hold them right hand, left hand or just reel them out and use the lock so you can go hands free.

Millennials: Too feminized to do their own improvements/repairs. Too unemployable to make enough money to hire a contractor. Home Depot is fucked.

>using imperial
do trades in the usa seriously do this?

I was gonna say me too but then I remmebered >eagle scout. I was chopping firewood at 12 for fun. I think ive actually done everything on your list and more. I wish I had dont shooting instead of archery and rode more horses mine was kind of lazy

No, my dumb ass held the tape end and tried to let the case end drop down a vertical beam to measure it.

city dwelling millenial

dad died before when i was a baby

mom worked in a cafe

yet i can use all common tools

as well as mop a fucking floor

got a ba in econ and working on an mba

unemployed cuz i'd rather starve than work retail and i cant get a real job cuz "they re looking for candidates with diversity"

tell me again about white privilege, my grandparents werent in america until after the civil war

A few weeks ago I was dumbfounded to stumble upon some nu-male millenial asking a floor worker about reviews about which rubber mallet was the most quality product.

It's a god damn rubber mallet. It's kinda heavy, not too hard, and you hit stuff with it. God damn.

-T. Millenial who knows how to use tools and has basic handyman skills. Just fucking nuke us though. I hate my generation.

>cold weather survival.
i.e., everyday life in Canada!

Aka the only place left that can sustain a Home Depot is freaking Europe.

this is what happens when a generation is raised by single mothers. i had to teach myself to shave, drive, talk to girls, fight, fix things, etc. i'm pushing 30 now but it hurts to not have had that in your life. don't look down on these guys, it's not entirely their fault.

As a Gen-Xer, it's our fucking fault.

We were too busy jacking it to Usenet porn (via dial-up) to pay attention to our kids. We never showed them how to mow a lawn or use a plunger. Instead, we parked them in front of game consoles and their mothers. While I was trying to ascertain whether or not "AmericanOnline" was really the entire internet, my sons watched "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" on Bravo. Or cooking shows. Or MTV. I should have limited their television viewing to repackaged HItler documentaries and "How It's Made" marathons. I should have made chores an integral part of their lives. I should have made them get part-time jobs at 16. I should have steered them away from college and into trades. I should have fled the suburbs and moved the family out onto acreage. I should have taught them how to fire a weapon. I should have raised them to be men, not femmy losers who bitch and whine incessantly about what they don't have.

My only redeeming action is to bleed my retirement dry and ensure that they don't receive a single dime from my estate. Let them stew on the fact that I gave it away to organizations they despise. No soup, bitches...no soup.

Don't worry about Home Depot, the jews will keep them in money for awhile yet by showing just how fun it is for a strong woman and her dark but not to niggered husband to completely remodel a house all by themselves

The absolute state of western civilization

>Forced To Host Tutorials On Using Tape Measures, Hammering Nails

This sort of stuff used to be taught in shop class 25+ years ago. Thanks Boomers.

Post >yfw we're the generation to finally bring the world to its knees

HD has always done this, I still have my original "how to build a birdhouse with homer™" and "bathroom DIY guide 1993" books. Especially the measuring guides, because most people do not know how to take good measurements just in general. This is a problem that goes back to when I was a kid.

Most people don't actually know how to do it right. Just watch someone measure their floor, either they will use the tape measure standing up (giving a wrong read, due to it being diagonal) or will go across instead doing two measurements of both walls. As for mopping, most people don't even know how to use soap or degreaser correctly. Only people who work shitty retail jobs do.

Wrong, it's single mothers that are the biggest consumers of this crap because they have to fix their shit on their own without a man. The people who get fucked the most are kids who are born to contractors who deliberately don't teach their kids how to do DIY work so they don't become second generation contractors. It's stupid but I see it all the time, parents fuck their kids so that they get "real jobs" as programmers and not tradesmen.

And in 30 years you'll have 100% equity in your home and no payments. How much of your apartment will you own then?

I lol'd. Not making fun of you, bro, if you didn't know better at the time. But that's an amusing anecdote

They will though, much of their business are contractors picking up supplies and mexican day laborers

How to hate honky 101

>these are the revolutionaries that want communism in America
>communism glorifies labor

Its an abstract kind of timeline

This.

When I was in 7th-8th grade, we have a quarter of metal shop, quarter of wood shop and a quarter of drafting. Lathes, drill presses, forging, table saws, circular saws...we did it all. My youngest chose band, which is fine except that it doesn't allow for any other electives.

Funny thing, we also had to take home-ec. So I learned how to sew a stupid football shaped pillow and make scones. At the time it was pretty fem feeling, but in hindsight it was like getting a well-rounded edcuation. I'm no pillow making, pastry baking dandy, but it was good exposure.

Also: Fuck the Dodge Journey.

>cold weather survival
>put on jacket and boots
wow very hard

Furniture is not the only reason to use tools or building materials.

Did you ask him what he actually learned in college? Most college math uses decimals, not fractions.

>mfw I had to teach some /sci/ faggot how to add fractions because he couldn't do 5/8s into 2' off his head

That's not surprising. I redid my deck railing this spring to get ready for summer and my neighbor was shocked that I owned power tools.

That's great until you decide to buy a home. A few basic maintenance skills will go a long way to improving your life or saving you a lot of money. There's also a good sense of accomplishment that comes from doing things yourself.

this
i always try to order online. home depot doesnt even have real cashiers anymore. i hate going there

I was in 7th and 8th grade 2004-2006 and we were still learning that shit then. Wouldn't surprise me to hear it's been axed now though

how is this anybody but the parent's fault?

It would one thing if the message was "millenials refuse to even hammer a nail" despite dad having taken them when they were little kids and showing them how to do it and making them do it themselves a few times to see how easy it is but this is them never even being exposed to it.

To me this just further proves that this generation was destroyed by boomers and generation x.

>i cant get a real job

What's that?

Ikea is not real furniture.

It's fucking particle board and laminates.

As McDonalds is to "food stuff," Ikea is to furniture.

Most millennials don't understand home equity and its value. I wouldn't waste time tying to make them understand. Hopefully Gen X can fix what our generation destroys.

Honestly not surprised.

It's because the boomers had their third world slaves do everything for the millenials. Blame the boomers not their victims(children)

>There's also a good sense of accomplishment
People always say that, but it never happens

>t. faggot who's never been 30 minutes outside of a city

>have 100% equity
>still slave to property taxes
>gov't can force you to sell at any time

renting is still worse though

Yes

>tfw shit at math
Can't do basic math in my head to save my life. Rightfully embarrasses the shit out of me when someone rattles off the solution while I'm still trying to think it through.

How old are you, sir? I'm 51 and it was the same: I had a quarter of electrical wiring, quarter of wood work, quarter of auto repair, and even that same quarter of home ec. While I hated the home ec thing, it was actually pretty cool to be able to feed myself and do all the shit mom used to do when I moved out on my own. Mom helped a lot too (bought me brooms and mops and bathroom cleaner and shit, then told me how to use them over the phone). Hell, in 7th grade we even had a basic finance class on how to balance a checkbook and how interest works and shit.

I'm an old degenerate and have mostly dated milennials for the last number of years. And holy shit, it's BAD what they just don't know and have never been exposed to.

We had this stuff also, except kids would just use the area to create bombs and bully’s would use the the lathes and presses to torture the weak...

Hearty kek, thanks user i needed that

You mean Gen Z? Gen X will be dead by the time the millennials finish running everything into the ground.

It's cool. Everyone else working on the project laughed. Atleast now i won't forget.

huh, didnt know the case counts as three inches. Learn something new everyday.

stop hiring people from college. your perpetuating a broken system. Even into high level mathematics (even beyond analysis) there were students who had to come up to the professors desk DURING EXAMS to ask how to use squeeze theorems or how solve basic differentials. These were supposed math majors who couldn't do undergrad work. What's especially sad is because they were always the majority they got the help and got to pass anyways.

College is guarantee of nothing except that you'll have to pay them more because they have debt to pay.

Holy shit I had to teach this one chick how to use a tape measure at work. Took me an hour and she forgot everything after lunch. She also wasn't strong enough to do the job. She got moved to every division at work cuz she sucked at everything and nobody liked her. She eventually got fired. Roasties do not belong in the workplace.

This is exactly why I sold my rental. Pathetic

No shit. What's your point?

get a fucking job you scumbag child. what would you do if you could live in moms basement faggot?

Publicity stunt, Home Depot has been doing seminars and group trainings for years, making videos is just the next step and they need to drum up some exposure

>*Teleports behind you*
>*Gets offended by reality*
