I've been going through 君のとなりで恋してる！ for the past few days, and it's a really good choice for a first or second visual novel. All of the characters are amusing and the romance scenes are great so far. The only downsides concerning comprehension so far are that the grandma can be hard to understand sometimes, and that there are a few short scenes here and there without text. Rina a best.

It's practice, not studying.

You can get practice wrong, but you shouldn't ever get studying wrong. I don't get why /djt/ is so against that as a concept.

Because you're literally intentionally defining study and practice in a way that doesn't overlap, and that definition is both unrealistic and wrong.

Don't worry too much about understanding absolutely everything in his guide. The faster you can finish it and move on to >compelling content, the better. You can always reinforce your grammar later with DOJG.

Then I'll revise my question to: What is the most recent thing, besides Anki, you have done to learn Japanese?

I alway read and got like 7k vocab and know a lot of grammar I think. It's just for the feeling of finishing it that I attempt from time to time to read a chapter. But I always end up doing something else, like posting here

Hiragana + katakana deck with a textbook font. Uses unique set kana-romaji mapping like writing ぢ as dji instead of the same way as じ to reduce beginners' confusion, and actually contains Cye sequences. Doesn't contain recent katakana extensions like ティ and ヴ because tossing that curveball to people that can't even sound out normal japanese isn't fair.

How do you translate "うちの妹をやるからゲーム買う金をくれ"?
The context:

I read around 1 hour of eroge per day because I enjoy it. I know way too few kanji or grammar to make it smooth but its easier to remember some kanji when there's context.

I looked up some shit in DOJG

I was planning to read 涼宮ハルヒの分裂 for 15 minutes or so before bed but there wasn't a single break for 30 pages or so so I winded up getting only 6 hours of sleep

Feels good not to lie to myself.

I wrote はひふへほ over 50 times to memorize them. Then I realized there are 2 muddied pronouncements for them, so I knocked off 3 entire sets of hiragana today. All I have left to memorize is about 5 more sets, which I remember a few characters from, then i move to katakana.
Also I took some notes on basic grammar rules from the first part of the manga grammar book from the resource page. Progression feels good.

やる there means "to kill" or "to fuck", I honestly can't tell which, I would have gone for fuck but that other guy said kill so who knows

くれ means " to give"

I guess it could just be to give then, I don't see やる just on it's own like that to mean "to give" very often, usually it's on the end of a verb, so it sounds kind of weird to me, but I'm shit at Japanese so idk
