Ft McMurray looks like a ghost town compared to 5 years ago. Everything is just maintenance projects now. Talks of expansion to north Saskatchewan oil sands, which are supposedly larger reserves than north alberta, are dead. Not even worth discussing getting infrastructure in place for those sites.
American shale has killed oil prices. Most blame the sand niggers, but its actually americas fault for the price drops. Middle east production is roughly the same as it was before. Shale is through the roof. Price will never go back to $100 a barrel. We need $75ish a barrel to make bitumen production worthwhile unless some new technique is discovered to get it out of the ground. Trudeau following his father's NEP in the 70s and 80s that killed canadian oil then with his energy east and policies on canadian oil today has all but ended the future for canadian oil industry. Theyll run these reserves into the ground and then that will be it.
