How do I get into Gundam? Tried watching the first movies trilogy but it was so fucking boring I dropped it at the second one. Should I just force myself to finish them to enjoy the newer series?

They cut out all of the character interaction, which is like 90% of the original gundam. They do fix a few things like guntanks in space and the stupid fucking surfboard, but they strip out a ton of shit.

I would kill for official HF plamo (besides the SD Ξ) and hopefully an animated adaptation (OVA?).

Pacing is shit and some great parts are cut out. The original Gundam and most Gundam series are far more suited to TV series than movies.

My only personal problem with the first series is that it is quite old. It was a different time and the presentation of the original series doesn't hold up all that well. Hell, even the people at the time didn't like it so much.
