I didn't expect that twist, but it doesn't look that interesting.
Eh, i'm kinda curious. Are those things humans in suits? Do future humans look like monsters? Are they just monsters?
Mite b cool, i just hope it doesn't go into nonsense edgy just for the sake of being edgy territory.
I like it. Seems out of the norm for WSJ. Atmosphere and characters seem compelling. Even the edgy one seems likable. I think it has potential.
I give it 2 months
Exact opposite here, fully expected a prison-like twist but it could still be interesting if done well.
Reminds me of that other manga where the kids were being used as hosts for angels and demons to resurrect through and the protag had been raised in an orphanage being run by the angels who raised them until they were old enough to be used. More fanservice-y than this one, though. And more battle manga-y.
Wonder how this one will turn out.
What's the name of it?
>I didn't expect that twist
Seriously?
That fucking sucked, so generic.
>DUDE THE WORLD IS ACTUALLY SCARY XD
I know it's a common trope for material using kids, but it is beyond generic at this point. The only interesting thing I saw so far was that the dead girl had a plant growing out of her chest.
Forgot. I don't think it's had an update for quite a while, though.
Yeah, why a plant?
In fiction all orphanage are evil places were the child are used
God that delivery on the twist was awful
>Oh no, look. She's dead.
>Let's hide under the car.
>Oh no. They're demons that eat human flesh.
I saw it coming from a mile away. This kind of thing is pretty common when it comes to idyllic orphanages in fictional stories. I'll see where this goes, because it still has potential.
It's literally aimed at kids. What did you expect? I think I'd like this if I was like 12.
Its a generic survival horror instead of battle manga
Oh well
WAKE ME UP
CAN'T WAKE UP
why didn't you protect this smile?
Those faces are horrendous.
i always enjoyed this kind of series until the inevitable clarifications. Gantz, Apocalypse no Toride etc, really into them until I realized the authors have no idea how to keep you hooked after more info is dumped on you at a certain point. ( this is why I think Oda will reveal most of the mad scientist/devil fruit thing later even if that isn't the main hook of the manga, it has a big importance over the idea of power in the world )
Same. But I think MC looks weak as fuck.
>Shonen Jump series where a girl is the main protagonist
Honestly surprised. I can count the number of those on one hand.
>those character designs
Will be cancelled in 3 months max
So? Aiming something at kids doesn't mean you have to put as obvious a twist as you could possibly write. Kids have probably seen better executed versions of that twist in manga aimed at them.
Imho art looks great when colored and horrible in BW. Skipped most of the chapter to look for the twist, it just smelled of emotional manipulation. I mean, it can be well and good but when you see that characters are simply there to die and for you to feel sorry of them it loses all the appeal.
Also monster design is weak and impractical if you consider that they drive your regular cars. And I wish the "two faced caregiver" cliche would just die. It's okay when they show some remorse, but sociopathic switches between two modes are boring.
Overall great replacement for nisekoi and bleach, will have a bigger following than one piece in no time.
That last new Jump shit I read was Gakkyu Houtei and it was fucking garbage.
How long does it take for the next Wan piss or BnH to come along.
At the same time it doesn't mean that it has to be 2deep4u either. For a WSJ series this is fine.
I said the same for Black Clover and...
>Final Fantasy XV
What?
>all of the jump manga that we ''grew up'' on is ending or has ended already
>this is the shit that replaces them
Maybe it's time to drop shounen manga, I'm 24 years old already
>not expecting BC to be successful
Retard
>...
Fuck off
>implying BhN is any good
Sasuga tripfag :^)
I hope it won't be an eternal prison break.
I hope the focus will be 0on their adventures in a bizarre world then after a time skip Emma became fuckable.
Emma a cute though
90% of the magazine has been unreadable for at least the past decade
To be fair, the reveal of them straight up being demons was pretty surprising. I read through the page preceding it and expected the mother to be shown, and instead it's beelzebub and friends.
After the author started to brag about how good a mangaka he is, I expected something good but so far it's just a pretty generic survival horror story. I'll give it 2 more chapters to interest me if not then I'm dropping it.
By the way does anyone have the picture of the mangaka bragging about he'll be remembered from this point onward? I just think it's funny how he was bragging so much and only published a sub par manga.
lol I never heard that before, I'm also interested in this
It was one of those quotes that jump takes of every author every once and a while. In his quote he says "this day will be remembered for when Kaiu Shirai enters the manga world" or something like that
...
It seems to me that he's just hoping for the manga to survive and make a fanbase, not bragging.
Somehow that wasn't as cocky as I remembered but still doesn't change the fact that so far it's mediocre
It seems fine. Not super original, but people expecting otherwise from a WSJ series only have themselves to blame.
What's with the tests?
Are smart kids tastier?
>plucking
I'm interested, will read a few more chapters to see where this goes.
This actually seems to have gained a pretty good reputation in Japanese social media. Comments and reviews are pretty positive in different sites like Twitter. The consensus seems to be that it's pretty interesting and not very Jump-like. They think that it could be really good if the mangaka plays their cards right.
>It's interesting! I wamt to read the next episode. But for a second I thought I was reading a different magazine rather than Jump.
>Pretty good, maybe "Don't let me go" mixed with "Attack on Titan"?
>I really like this sort of dark fantasy atmosphere. I want to know what happens next. I just hope it doesn't get censored for violent content.
>Seems like it could get pretty interesting. I wonder if they manga will be mainly about them escaping the orphanage or if they will get out quickly.
>I really enjoyed it, I just wish the character art was a bit cuter and less weird.
Niggerstream picked up completely new manga from first chapter? What happened?
>>I really enjoyed it, I just wish the character art was a bit cuter and less weird.
>wanting more moeshit.
Emma's design sheet.
>those mad faces
Calling it, the manga is gonna go full Attack on Titan with Emma saying she is gonna kill all monsters.
It suddenly got a lot of positive buzz in Japan.
kind of worried that it being in jump means that it'll be neutered and we won't see anything too shocking or gory, if the horror is too censored this is going to get real bad, real fast
My problem with this type of series is that there is an "expiration date". Remember Enigma?
They're going to get out of the orphanage quickly, at least Emma. I bet she manages to escape but every other kid dies and she goes full Eren.
there's no way any of the 3 "main" characters are dying in this, especially not this early
Art reminds me of the woman that did the designs for crowds
Yeah, the main 3. But what about the other 30?
Maybe. Whether or not they have the balls to kill off a bunch of the kids will tell us where this is headed
grandpa, please kill yourself for expecting shounen to appeal to someone like you
Great first chapter. Art was on point and the story is interesting.
I have no faith in Jump kiddies to keep this alive though.
Japanese social media is filled with positive reviews, if nothing else. One of the strongest first chapter receptions since HeroAca. That's probably the reason MS even decided to pick it up.
Cocky.
Do you think Japanese kids are into this kind of genre, or do they only like shounen battle manga?
So I kind of expected the twist after the tests and shit, but damn those demons are creepy.
I was so bored by the time they appeared it worked pretty damn well.
no they don't and the mangaka should have gone for a seinen publication instead if he want to do a story like this.
which is why realistically, this manga will be canceled within a year for failing to cater to the magazine's audience
pretty much most of the positive reaction from twitter are from adults, not SJ targeted audience.
So cocky.
It probably going to turn into a battle manga story then.
No way the assigned SJ editor will approve of this without making it so.
Maybe it will turn into a battle manga. They foreshadowed fighting back with wit instead of brawns this entire chapter. As to if it will be popular only time will tell.
the tag stuff seems more like it's foreshadowing them running away, rather than any sort of fighting back
best new series of the year
bnha fags and bc fags on suicide watch
Why is this in Jump
Probably because people didn't expect it would be in Jump.
No official viz dump yet?
I'm also waiting for it. This had too much swearing considering these are sheltered 11 year old kids.
Owari no Seraph ripoff.
Conny (the tactics boy) is dying. Dunno when, but he's dying.
>millennial mangakas today can't make mangas as good as their seniors without adding in edge
Norman, Conny was the little girl with the bunny. But I agree, he is a walking death flag.
(Me)
I swear that's not the image i uploaded. It even says 447x275.
>But it's fine to do this to animals
Western hypocrisy at it's best.
godspeed actually
I don't see it. In juvenile horror and especially in Jump, main characters don't get killed off like that. If it were targeting a more mature audience, I could see them trying to subvert expectations, but given how they've built these kids up as super-geniuses, I suspect they're going to be in it for the long haul
Japan got it right, actually. It's "Never Let Me Go".
The two boys will die fairly quick, sacrificing themselves to ensure Emma manages to escape. In the outside world she'll meet real MC and slowly become his fucktoy as her relevance continuously wanes into generic support character.
Such is the fate of female Jump leads.
Not when they're cute lolis and shotas, user.
Nah, I don't see the boys dying. At worst Normal will become incapacitated.
An early series like this needs it's shock value, it has to pull a full Gantz and kill off the starter team early.
Plus as others have been pointed out, 'Hurr I've never been caught in tag' is a massive death flag.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
>another cooking manga
what's with the flower? did the mom stab conny with the flower?
Liked it. Premise is pretty good.
I'd be a bit concerned with the current 'rules' being a bit too restrictive. There's already a 'time limit', the 3 mains sound like they are next on the list, Emma wants to save everyone (which I have doubts can be done).
But there are multiple directions the story could go, ultimately I'd imagine they'd have to leave and see what the outside world has become with a sizable chunk of the start being a game of wits in the orphanage.
Points of interest; why the exams? Do more developed brains taste better?
The plant growing out of Conny.
The year is only 2045.
Concept isn't new or anything so its all up to how the ship is sailed by Kaiu from now on.
VIZ will do Jump Start for Love Rush and Red Sprite too.
Pretty much, it's all going to come down to how interesting the cat-and-mouse is done by the author, layering the plots and machinations of the three geniuses against the system.
Looks like it as the demons came to collect her after she was humilated and killed by the mom.
kek
One chapter in and already incompatible with WSJ! Good job.
I give it the customary 30 chapters until it's canceled.
This reminds me about Bakuman and all the good info it gave - how WSJ editors would take a risk on a story like this if there's enough good initial reception. Bare in mind they fully expect it to bomb. It's the one in a million chance of not bombing they want to cover as well.
It doesn't feel like this would be good enough to take such a risk though.
They take on mediocre or WSJ incompatible series on all the time just for the heck of it. This one at least has some social media backing and unique art.
Out of the 40 or so series they picked up since 2010 only 4 are still in print.
Niggastream said on twitter that they don't know yet if they continue to do this or nah...
I don't care for MS, but I hope Viz picks it up.
I really hope the one with the miss-shapened head dies.
Can't stand his character design.
>the one with the misshapen head
you mean, all of them?
>that Shimabukuro comment
Kek.
