So I just watched Kabaneri, and the story probably didn't make sense at many points (why lower the drawbridge without inspection, why take a bullet for your immortal friend etc.),...
But I'm absolutely in love with the music, the cinematography and ESPECIALLY the shading. It's like watching 80s anime come to life again. It's the kind of look I fell in love with, not the plastic and flat bucket fill of modern anime like Sword Art Online. I wish there were more anime with the look of Kabaneri. It's so visually orgasmic I could watch Mumei all day long. So much talent is wasted on this series, I feel like.
Are we gonna see this kind of shading come back to anime? What other series have it?
So I just watched Kabaneri...
>how to completely ruin a show with one character: the anime
Why does everybody always compare everything to Sword Art Online?
If it's as bad as you say it is, then that's like comparing Lord of the Rings to Twilight.
>But I'm absolutely in love with the music, the cinematography and ESPECIALLY the shading. It's like watching 80s anime come to life again. Is Kabaneri the best pleb detected nowadays?
>(why lower the drawbridge without inspection
Because it was on schedule and sounded the horn. They wouldn't expect it to arrive with a horde of Kabane.
>why take a bullet for your immortal friend
Ikoma's not immortal. He can die if his heart is pierced or his head is shot. Biba's bullets can pierce the heart cage of a Kabane so his friend's sacrifice wasn't in vain.
Mumei saved the anime, and then killed it.
Pic related is the only reason people even picked up this piece of shit, and will be the only thing anyone will remember out of it.
Cool hair saved the anime.
>why take a bullet for your immortal friend etc
Biba gunblade used jet bullets, the kind that can actually kill both kabane AND kabaneri. Most complaints towards Kabaneri can be solved by paying attention and reading the subtitles.
OP here, and from what your webm seems to imply, you are referring to the still shots and animation shortcuts, perhaps as some form of criticism.
But 80s anime is exactly like that. Anime has always been about cutting corners and leaving much to the imagination, not about having Disney level of smooth animation. And here I'm referring to the shading, which is what I really love. The Simpsons may have really smooth animation, but the visual / design is not exactly like what we enjoy in anime, is it?
Unless it is KyoAni, indie short or a feature movie, I don't expect sakuga level of animation from TV anime.
Because nearly EVERYONE is misunderstanding Biba... Anyone who is confused about him should check out these posts:

Fucking kill yourself holy shit.
>tumblr
this place really is turning to shit isn't it
>And here I'm referring to the shading
And he's calling you a fucking idiot. The shading wasn't particularly well done either and made the show look really fucking cheap along with the frequent use of stills. Felt like someone who doesn't know how 80's anime was made trying to make it himself and failing as a result. In terms of getting it right Lupin 2015 and G-Reco got it down right, probably because they were made by veterans directors and not one-note hack, hence why Kabaneri is the ultimate pleb detector.
>The shading wasn't particularly well done either and made the show look really fucking cheap
Fuck off with your patrician level taste.
This makes everyone that shitted on Biba look like fuckin idiots. Good stuff
Yes the art was great.
Pleb detected
Biba was a horrible character. Get over it, tumbshit isn't going to change bad writing.
Look at that detailed shading. Look at that incredible slow pan across a still image overlaid with speed lines in order to give it the illusion of motion. It's like I'm back in the cel-animation days watching REAL anime. Why can't more shows be like Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress?
It's a great anime and has great main characters when episode 3 and onward don't exist.
It looks like hentai art
>tumblr
Not really. You could just admit you were mistakenly complaining about stills and animation, instead of the shading. And your immature tone doesn't promise any fruitful discussion either.
I watched Lupin and G-Reco. They are terrific shows but it's not the kind of look I refer to. This screenshot
Again, more complaining about speed lines and derailing into another topic. 80s anime was like that, with panning and still shots too.
You could argue Kabaneri didn't have the budget and quality was inconsistent, but I'm praising the shading and design of the old anime that I see in Kabaneri when they can pull it off. Speed lines or sakuga are another story.
I'm perfectly fine with that. The shading was orgasm worthy.
....if you say so
i do
Fucking kill yourself samefag tumblrina.

>You could just admit you were mistakenly complaining about stills and animation, instead of the shading.
Actually I'm complaining about the shading and it looked nothing like your screenshot. So thanks for proving that people who praise this show are retards.
You do realize that the majority of 80's anime didn't have shading right?
here. I think that the reason people are being so rude and dismissive is probably because this is just another dime-a-dozen MUH SHADING threads that are nothing more than an excuse for the OP to bemoan the state of modern anime. I'm not sure what you're looking for here. Go watch more 80s movies and OVAs if you're desperate to see some shading. And honestly, posting images from the Macross movie isn't really helping your point because it's almost like you're implying that detailed shading was the rule rather than the exception.
It's nothing like 80's anime, it just occasionally uses 3 tone shading, usually to make Mumei or Ikoma look fuckable. That's it. You need to lurk the fuck more and watch more anime if you think this type of shading is uncommon today.
Then that is why I ask for more examples, if you are so certain they not "uncommon today". Don't pretend I'm a newfag to dodge the question and mask the underlying problem that many anime, even those with huge budget, don't bother to shade anymore.
Obviously not every anime, now or back then, has the budget to pull it off. But even movies or blockbuster anime nowadays rarely do it, and that's a shame.
You are free to pick the most mediocre screenshot, but even THAT screenshot has more acceptable shading on the face and the hair than most anime currently airing.
I don't need to pretend you're a newfag, it's fucking obvious by reading your posts.
>MUH 80'S fag posting a fate ZZZ screenshot
you cant make this shit up
>You are free to pick the most mediocre screensho
>pic related
Seriously?
>but even THAT screenshot has more acceptable shading on the face and the hair than most anime currently airing.
You really are a pleb
Why the fuck should anyone spoonfeed you recommendations of anything? Lurk more newfag and find them yourself instead of acting like an entitled cunt.
>even those with huge budget, don't bother to shade anymore.
Because it costs money. Wew that was hard.
I assume you are intelligent enough to know fate zero doesn't come from the 80s, but I see I might be wrong. The screenshot is to refer to the stale and flat look of modern anime, even from unlimited budget works or blockbuster anime who can't use the budget as an excuse.
It's already obvious by now you have nothing to contribute to the discussion.
You can go the low-labor route and find derpy screenshots from Kabaneri (which even I can do), or participate in the discussion and highlight other modern anime with good shading. I have feeling you will stick to shitposting.
Ah yes, the good old "too lowly for me" excuse. Except I know what I'm talking about. If you cannot refute, and have nothing to contribute besides immaturity, don't bother replying.
I do understand that many TV series can not afford it. But blockbuster anime, feature movies or series like Unlimited Budget Works cannot use that excuse really.
Anyway, I guess it's pointless to continue replying to shitposters. Perhaps my post came off as a negative rant against anime, but it is more about praising the people behind Kabaneri for their beautiful artwork. Honestly, it's hard to express how much I like the feelings of the aesthetics.
If enough people could see it and become influenced by it, I hope that shading could make a comeback. Not every TV series, of course. But even more movies with shading would be fine.
>and highlight other modern anime with good shading
You first
cuck
Am I to defeat my own argument? It is you guys' argument that modern anime with good shading is not "uncommon today", not mine. I do wish you could pay attention.
