Just say you worked for XYZ Consulting doing [insert activity here related to your field but also believable] and when asked about it in the interview say you're looking for a job with better advancement potential at an established company such as [insert company you're interviewing with here].

Well, you have a couple options. The best option honestly is to lie on your resume and fill the gap.. because if you can't get an interview to begin with, then you never get the chance to explain the gap.

I had a gap on mine and I was planning on telling the interviewer I was taking care of my dad who has cancer. But, I wasn't getting interviews to even explain myself. I did construction for a year and realized 'fuck it, I'll just say I did construction over the entire gap'. I talked to my old construction boss and explained the situation and he was cool with me exaggerating how long I was there, he doesn't give a shit and I was a good worker so whatever.

Remember, its a free market for them to choose employees. You are going to look a hell of a lot less desirable if it appears that you have been sitting on your ass doing nothing for a couple years. even if youve been in a coma the whole time.. unless you get an interview you don't get to explain.
