The relation between Shikai and Bankai is not in the ability, but in the name, lore or theme of the Zanpakuto. Urahara's Zanpakuto theme is the manipulation of matter to suit it's needs, while Soi Fon's is a hornet, its theme intact as a golden and black striped weapon.

I meant in the way that Kubo will end his manga the way he wants, no matter who it pisses off.
If kubo had cared about popularity he would have had ichigo and rukia hand out more in this arc. Bleach would have shot up the ranks if he did that. Seems he was more interested in keeping the integrity of his own story, which I could understand if the story wasn't so shit.
Bankai has always been an extension of the Shikai's actual ability and has never strayed far from it until Urahara's.
