Proof. Either name the roles you did or this thread will end up as a circlejerk.
Do you have any pride in what you do? Does anybody in the western anime industry?
あなたは嫌な外国人いますか?
I've sometimes helped on scripts, but never full-on writing 'em.
Homura. Though I've gotten pretty attached to the designs from Jewelpet recently.
I don't wanna be that obvious, but how about this: Here's a pic of the signature on my first FUNimation check.
Yeah, though your mileage may vary. Some people just do it because they're actors and they want work. Others are really into doing anime, and try and do the best they can. You'll find that the more successful people are usually in that first camp, though.
Can you tell us what shows you've done?
You don't have to tell us what character you did though.
>$200
One Piece, Attack on Titan, and Fairy Tail are the biggest things I've done. I've also been in some random bullshit shows from a few different dubbing houses, and I've worked staff on one show thus far as well.
This. How the fuck do you afford food?
is this you
Do you go to studio or from home? Any tips for getting into it? What state are you in?
Who are the best upcoming voice actor and voice actress today in your opinion?
you japanese in japan or western voice actor?
Yyyyep. And I'm one of the lucky ones with a higher pay rate.
For anime, you have to go into the studio usually- though I have done some shows from home for companies that don't care as much. My advice: Live where the work is and network the fuck out of that city. Your choices are New York, LA, Houston, or Dallas, and I picked Dallas.
I hope you die so you don't ruin anime with your shitty dub.
Post a vocaroo of one of your lines.

Me, personally, I have lots of money squirreled away from previous business ventures and investments. Other anime voice actors? They don't, a lot of the time. Many of them have part-time jobs. It sucks.
The dubs are gonna happen anyway, man. At least until Japanese companies decide that working with Americans isn't worth the effort.
>dubs
Not Sup Forums related, take this bullshit to Sup Forums.

Anyway, favourite hentai series?
>The dubs are gonna happen anyway, man.
No.
If there is lack of good VAs, they will do sub only.
Fuck it I'll bite.
Is it true what they say about many voice actors actually do a good job at dubbing but the higher ups ask them to tone down the emotions so it fits their shitty idea of what the character should sound like? I remember hearing about this before but never really looked into it.
Oh, yeah? Tell that to these dubs.
Derail soon™
Crashing this shit thread
No survivors etc
Haha. That's where you are wrong my friend. Atrocious dubs are still being put out today, Japan doesn't really quality check them. That's all on the dubbing house and their integrity.
Nah. Usually, they want you to act well. The problem arises when the character's face doesn't match the emotion in the actor's line- sometimes, you have to severely tone down a performance because the character's mouth is barely moving, for example.
Shit, those quads......

Could you post a snippet of your voice?
It doesn't have to be from your actual work, I'm just curious as to what voice you have for your line of work.

>Funicancer wrecked
Excellent.
whoa
What's the biggest thing you fear in your industry?
I'd rather not post a snippet, but I can tell you that I don't have one of the a-typical anime voices. I have a pretty deep-ass voice, so I play a lot of characters who are either sexy, serious and frigid, someone's mom, or some sort of combination.
Aside from the industry collapsing in on itself, my biggest fear as a voice-actor is someone shit talking me to the studio and basically convincing everyone to stop hiring me. It happens with surprising frequency.
Dubs have nothing to fear but dubs themselves.
Fuck off already, cancer.
>btw I'm a grill
Bolshevik confirmed, everybody go home.
Seen
do you listen to the original audio so you can try to make your voice sound the same? did you get hired because your voice sounded like whoever you were dubbing over?
How does it feel being part of the problem? Do you have any regrets?
holy shit are you a girl
Stop posting on Sup Forums Runkachunk.
who are you, please tell us. Have you worked with any big actors?

What character would you like to voice, given the chance of a dub?
Did you do something for this season?
Do you prefer watching subbed or dubbed?

Probably this guy.
Who's your favorite seiyuu?

lel, starve more dubfag
Whenever you record a line, you always hear the Japanese line first. So unless the director tells you to do otherwise, typically you're trying to make the voice sound as close as possible to the original Japanese. But you usually don't get told what character you're playing until you arrive at the studio and stand in front of the mic, so often times, you make up the voice on the spot and hope the director likes it.
I do the best I can as a filthy American to become the full anime.
Surprisingly, working with the 'big time' anime actors is pretty easy. I've directed a few video game projects, and if you ring up an actor and offer them a part, 90% of the time they'll accept.
Fuck, man. I'd like to voice a Digimon, but that show has been locked up by the union acting gods over in LA and they ain't letting go.
Yeah, I did some small stuff this season. I also voiced a pretty big villain in a show recently, but it's a DVD dub for an older show that's being released outside the seasonal rotation.
Depends on the show and who dubbed it. I try and watch FUNi's dubs, but I can't really stand Sentai's dubs. Bang Zoom's dubs are hit or miss.
Who do you LOVE to work with?
Who do you HATE to work with?

Why do you voice anime dubs and not original American cartoons?
Do you suck a director's cock for roles?
Is this Wataru? How is it? It's on my backlog, but I've got so many other shows to finish.
I have done some original cartoons, but I just love that fuckin' anime, man.
You wouldn't believe all the ways that doesn't work.
FUNimation's directors are generally super chill to work with. Other dubbing houses, on the other hand...
That sure is the dude who signs all my checks.
How the fuck do you go from electrical engineering and consultancy to being CEO of Funimation?
Were you a part of that VA union shit that happened last year?
やれやれ。。。
Nah. I'm not in the union. If you live in Texas, there's really no reason to be, since we're a right-to-work state. That shit was pretty much exclusive to LA.
First you make your fuck you money. After that, go into something that interests you. Your hobby becomes your job. Then, all your soul dies.
Moral of the story: Get a STEM degree.
how can you not even know what character you were hired to voice? when you say trying to sound like the original do you mean sounding exactly the same, or just copying the acting in general?
I don't understand why dub companies will hire one person to dub a character in one show, but then use a different person for a character in another show that had the same va in the original audio.
How much do you earn from being a VA? Is it your full-time job? If not, what do you do on the side?
It is. I've only seen the first series so far, but I liked it a lot. Not something to watch for high-quality action, obviously, but it's a really fun kids' show with nice characters and gags. Himiko is a miracle of the universe.
Unfortunately the only English subs are some nonsense that ARR probably ripped from a Hong Kong release or something and are absolute garbage in every respect.
...
How do you feel about the dubbing industry? Think it'll ever reach Cowboy Bebop status ever again or is it doomed to have subpar voice acting and meta-memeing like youtube.com
no fucking really, tell us who you are, so we can brag to our friends
how does it feel knowing you'll never be as talented as mel blanc or billy west?
Tell us a story.
Trust me, it happens all the time. I'll get called in for a couple hours of recording, and only find out my character upon arriving at the studio. They do it that way to prevent leaks, I guess.
As far as sounding like the original, it all depends on the director. Some want you to match the Japanese voice, but not the acting. Some want you to do both. Some don't give a fuck about the original and go in a totally new direction. It really comes down to who's directing.
Not a lot. Anywhere from $35 an hour to $75 an hour is common, and it can take anywhere from 1 hour to 50 hours to record a whole show, depending on how big of a character you are. I direct on the side.
Right now, it's so-so. Some great dubs are being put out, but nothing as great as some of my favorites. I'm hoping that as the newer generation of actors come in, we start to see fresher directing styles start to crop up.
Tell me what kind of story you'd like to hear, user, and I will be happy to oblige.
Sounds good. Thanks dude.
Stories about staff drama, or when things go wrong during production, or stuff like that.
I'm pretty sure the average Sup Forumsnon knows more about the anime industry than any western voice actor does.
Are you a nigger?
Only niggers watch dubs
Do you ever feel weird if you have to voice a rather lewd scene?
Tell us a story about something that either pissed you off, or you some FUNimation water cooler gossip.
Hm, what does the signature say? My first guess is, "Jen Fulcinago", but that doesn't turn up anything.
Check'd and kek'd.
>I'll get called in for a couple hours of recording, and only find out my character upon arriving at the studio. They do it that way to prevent leaks, I guess.
Just tossing in my two cents, when I went to college in DFW my roommate started working as a VA for Funimation and pretty much told me the exact same thing after his first day. He also wouldn't tell me what part he recorded for, only saying "You'd be surprised what show it was for."
This was like four years ago, and looking him up now he's done some bit parts in One Piece, Attack on Titan, and Tokyo Ghoul.

so would you say that it's directors not caring about matching the original audio or trying to do their own thing that's responsible for dubs generally being so shit?
I remember someone in a nep thread commenting on how vert had the same voice as mitsuru from persona 3. I said you mean purple heart right, but he was actually talking about the dub.
What needs to happen in the dubbing industry to make dubbing great again?

How do you feel voicing rape scenes?
I am in STEM though.
It's just a very odd career path he's taken.

Here's a story about production nightmares: A buddy of mine was directing a show and had a big, long audition process to try out a bunch of new actors and see if he could cultivate any fresh talent. So he has his auditions, only to find out that one of the Japanese actors was DEMANDING to reprise his role in the English dub. His English was... so-so. Passable but extremely heavily accented. So the company told him, sorry bro, you gotta fill the rest of the cast with famous veterans, or else people will tear this dub apart. So, begrudgingly, he recasts the whole show with famous people instead of the newbies he wanted to give a try... Only for the Japanese actor to decide that he can't be fucked to fly to America, so he decides he doesn't want to be in the dub anymore. The show was already completely recorded except for this one Japanese dude, so my buddy got stuck with this new cast in the end, anyway.
Yeah, I've voiced some semi-lewd scenes and it's... weird. Anime has gotten more intense than I remember. Luckily for me, like I said, I have a decently deep voice, so I usually voice the frigid bitch characters who don't get in on the lewd action.
