Mostly because of how it's defined. Australia has plenty of familicides but it's usually the wife, a child and the killer husband. That's only two deaths, you need four that aren't the shooter to count as a mass shooting.

There are mass shootings in all countries, when stricter gun control laws are introduced wherein it is harder or almost impossible for the average citizen to get access to a gun, then they use other means or methods.
In Australia, we've had several dozen mass murders over the course of twenty odd years since the gun ban and buy back program. We are one of the more strict western countries when it comes to gun control laws, and yet our crime rate has stayed the same, our homicide rate has stayed the same, and most of all, our Mass Murders are still happening every three to four years like clockwork. The only difference is, for some inane reason, they're not as publicized, and yet still mass deaths are still happening, just through differing means. A couple through arson in which the perpetrator locked individuals in a large building and set it on fire, another was a mass stabbing.
This happens in every country, the difference being that;
>1. America has some of the biggest media outlets in the world, and being one of the largest and most powerful countries as well as one of the most popular, the focus on their shootings is more regular
>2. With all the Gun Control arguments in the media, these shootings are publicized even more than other countries
>3. The majority of major news outlets are pro liberal, and most pro liberal organizations are FOR gun control, meaning these become even more outlandish and publicized in America
If you were to look at other countries statistics on mass shootings, you'd see that the issue isn't guns. In the UK, France or other European Countries with intense gun laws, when one cannot get access to a gun, they use other means. The most recent being Trucks or Knives.
Austria is on par with America when it comes to guns per person and control over them, and yet according to the statistics on crime and the yearly census, the mass shootings in Austria are next to none.
