Should I continue on with this series? I was going to go for Bobobo after this if that counts as "old".
I enjoyed this series even though it was an uncomplete OVA. Great opening, cool characters and hilarious dub.
...
How many incomplete OVAs do you think there are?
I miss noses in anime.
Finished Macross: Do You Remember Love? just recently and gotta say, it was an ok story, the visuals are gorgerous and musics are good but I didn't like the love triangle and the protagonist is kinda bland. Can't pick a best girl either but it was a good experience since its just a retelling of the original series.
Surprisingly enough, Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust is from 2000 actually, gotta thanks Amano for the oldschool-looking design
Incomplete or the ones that had their planning fucked up by the companies
Original series>>>>DYRL
Why did they never kiss REEEEEEEE
I started watching utena. Two episodes in and it's BORING. It's ranked as a psychological anime on MAL. When does it get good?
I barely remmeber the story in this
Why did the people at that freak show town decide to protect the vampire again?
I'm no fag but this was actually good back then.
Because the superior pairing is Allen/Hitomi.
Really enjoyed the first OVA of Apocalypse Zero, its fun as fuck and the theme song sang by Kageyama is perfect.
Don't mind me, just sharing this moment with you people hey hey hey.

I actually really like this version of the opening.
Why is it that older anime seem to have better character conflict than newer ones? I feel like newer ones try too hard to make everyone friends
>girls are rivals in love
>both are friends and are super nice to each other
>everyone in a class are friends
>no one ever bullies anyone else.
There are noses in D.Grey-man HALLOW.
they were for hire if i recall correctly
They still exist
>4 main girls
>All pretty
>They do have fleshed out personalities
>Fanservice is actuallly very little
Pleasant surprise, thought it would be just a fanservice OVA
this is my first waifu
Only because it's trying to imitate older anime style
I just finished the original Gundam. It was pretty amazing; no wonder it started such a long-standing franchise.
It felt like an actual war, something the other Gundam shows I've watched lacked.
Anime today is more about allowing the audience to self-insert rather than telling a story.
Popping into to say you all should watch red photon Zillion
WATCH IT
WATCH IT NOW
all anime is trying to imitate anime
Tokimeki Tonight is enjoyable, especially the backgrounds
>first
And only, right?
Has anyone else here ever watched this.
>And only
nope
noman can satisfied with only one 2d waifu
Never watched Tokimeki Tonight but the ending theme is really neat
youtube.com
That looks like a cross between Kaze to Ki no Uta and Candy Candy.
Self-insert isn't something the audience does. Self-insert is a writer inserting himself into a story. But yes, modern anime feels like it tries too hard to avoid any real human conflict. We don't really get conflict of personalities or just general conflict of having to be around the same people too often. Compare how Asuka behaves in Rebuild to the tv series.

Incoming old school dump, and I love you OP for this thread
Just read the synopsis. Holy shit, this show sounds like it's gonna be great. On the topic of old school OPs/EDs, this is my all time favorite
How old does the anime need to be to be considered old school? 10 years?
The shows pretty neat. Check it out.
Forgot to post link
>starting an apocalypse just so you can kill more things
Edgy or downright metal?
The episodes can move kinda slow
MEIN NEGGER
Cyber city Oedo is so underrated
Oh hey I rewatched this the other day. Bumped it up from "masterpiece" to "fucking masterpiece" dude this movie owns.
I would say anything that used cel is automatically in. As for start of the digital animation, I would say anything older than 2005 at least, if not older.
Agreed this movie is godlike. I hope the live action is decent but I doubt it.
I'd say 20.
It was the opposite for me the last time I rewatched it. It went from "masterpiece" to "a good looking film that falls apart during the second half".
You just don't get it like I do, man.
>tv station has long anime night on friday like once a month
>stay up all night and watch evangelion, lodoss and stuff like that
>now can get everything I want in a few minutes
It's just not same.
That's fine, I liked Flying Witch
Boring as fuck for me with incredibly shitty character designs and godly animation.
Can't deal with massive psychic foreheads and elderly blue children? Get outta here man those designs are on point.
BEST THREAD
>you will never see marcross+ for the first time again
Read the manga.
I meant more like that they all look the fucking same.
about 2/3rds of the way in, and then it gets even better when you watch it a second time.
Jokes on you. I've never seen it.
The fucking concert scene in episode two how fucking awesome was that? Sharon Apple is sweet, some seriously good music in Macross Plus.
Oh please, you blind?
>it's an old anime thread
Nah, character design is just shit.
...
...
Here's mine.
>Mfw trying to watch Macross Zero after Plus
Fucking early 2000 anime.
They're Japanese
I remember I just got digital cable and was flipping through the Showtime package channels and this was playing on Showtime Beyond, so fucking good. They played it at least once a week.
no internet or smartphones allowed
I know, right? The mobile suit fight looks like ass compared to Plus
Currently watching pic related.
I'm amazed at the quality of the scenery and I¡m loving the neorrealism feel it has the whole thing, not just by the italian setting, but also the pacing and the detail on the background people.
Are the other Takahata series this good?
>90s shit
>old school
kys
The fuck is neorealism?
Zero has a nice story though.
...
>90s were 20 years ago
For anime standards it is old
>MAL
Please get out
fuck you for reminding me of that awful dub.
youtube.com
Killed the series so bad that half of the show still only has HKs
Pre 2000 like with /vr/
How? Cause I'm currently powering through the original series just so I can watch the OVAs and the movies but it's just not that good.
I mean, they clearly had a lot of ambition for the show, but it just doesn't pan out nearly as well as it could have if this was supposed to be the next big mech shit since Gundam, and beyond the bonkers story it's a completely technical problem.
The animation is ridiculously inconsistent, even for old anime standards; the recycling of footage goes from somewhat charming to obnoxious really fast, and it doesn't even try to hide it; and the fucking music really grates on your nerves after the first 8 listens. Like, you'd think that for a show with such an emphasis on music they would've made a couple more tracks, the fucking KYUUN KYUUN isn't cute anymore
I'd heard Macross was budget as fuck, but I guess I underestimated it, so my bad there. I just hope the DYRL movies are as good by comparison as people say they are
It's and Italian cinema's movement. I'm 80% sure it must have been and influence in this, specially since it's Takahata we're talking about.
The last episodes CG fight was genuinely good.
Twenty two years later and Information High is still my favorite insert song of all the anime I've watched.
DYRL really does deserve its rep as one of the most beautiful anime movies of the 80's.
...
It's heartwarming
It looks like shit but that's part of the charm man, you just don't get it. Hikaru wouldn't be Hikaru without being a spaced out motherfucker and Macross wouldn't be Macross without Kaifun or pineapple salad. I hope it finds its way into your heart like it did mine, cause it sure is a special show.
But that wasn't Asuka there it was Shinji's image of Asuka that he had in the tang.
Better than the mogo which was filled to the damn brim with nip stronk and a shitty rip off of mad max and fist of the north star at the end.
im still mad about this
shit taste
no such thing as "edgy" in the 80's, user
the man-gah was better
I'm liking this thread so far. Nice change of pace to see some old gems discussed instead of anal devastation over ________ series' MC being too beta to be with best girl.
>boring
I never understood this criticism. There's only one section that really doesn't have any action and it's doesn't drag on for long. To people just not have long attention spans?
...
No it really wasn't, the idea that Tetsuo could be a horrifying monster by just not thinking through his actions was way more interesting then him just being evil, besides I couldn't have given less of a fuck about most the cast in the manga.
DYRL has better animation, but in terms of character and story? The tv series by miles. Minmay is a lot better (as in more three dimensional, more realistic) in the series than the film. Hikaru choosing Misa makes sense there. Also, more Max.
Dweee
Medabots is fucking good. Like really, seriously one of the best shounen I've ever seen. Legitimately hilarious, the cast is super well rounded, it's well animated, the plot arcs are solid. Like, I've got nothing but positive shit to say about it. No excuses now that that user has finished subbing it, it's pure gold.
I just chose a picture of Asuka
But the MC of that show had shit taste and I'm pretty sure he failed to get the girl he chose, which also wasn't even the best girl.
