The writers fucked up, they should have doubled down on the Vampirism and made it into more of a horror series, Haruto having berserk impulses was a nice setup that never went anywhere.

Also having immortal MCs would have made for a super interesting timeskip for a part 2, maybe where humanity has come to regard the pilots as gods or demons

It's a shame they never went further with that. Haruto had that badass look in his eyes and he piloted like a pro. They should have made it so that when they were in the Valvraves they became unstopable murder machines instead of Haruto's eternal angst dominating and everyone else being terrible pilots

But they were murder machines. Haruto's kill count is probably in the high hundreds. He brooded over a lot of things but killing the enemy wasn't one of them.

Though personally I like that they were shitty pilots. Too much anime make their teen casts too perfect, I liked how Valvrave had the adults and experienced soldiers fucking over the kids easily.

200 YEARS FUTURE Valvrave actually looked pretty interesting.
