TL;DR: Updating a chart from 3 years ago and first started 6 years ago in the efforts of showcasing particular shows which have excelled in certain (niche) aspects.
How this works: >think up a good example for a category >you must provide visual evidence and put forward an argument for your example >other anons can chime in on a person's choice to debate or support it >if we reach 5 examples, don't despair - with a good enough argument you may be able to override a previous choice
We're getting close to finishing. Just a few more to go and then some revisions. I'd like to be able to complete that tonight if we are able.
This is the 2013 version, so please take a look so you don't look silly when you suggest something that's already on there. We're trying to find things which aren't on that chart to fill the categories (a few have slipped through but only into other, unrelated categories).
Cameron Jenkins
Holy fucking shit, nigger, you've been at this for over a week. Just take some random things that were suggested and plug them in, you don't need to make a dozen threads to establish absolute consensus.
Adrian Wright
We're almost done. I'm not looking for absolute consensus (that'd be madness), but a lot of suggestions have come as a result of people not reading the OP or wanting to fill it up with the same director's work over and over.
Easton Stewart
Do you have the 2014 & 2015 versions? I have the 2013 one but am not sure about those years.
Connor Wood
Blood The Last Vampire or Towa no Quon for animated motion/choreography. I remember Namiuchigiwa no Muromi-san being well animated too so there's that. At least one of these should get on.
Julian Cox
Last one was in 2013.
Ian Jenkins
I don't know if I'd put Lain under bizarre visuals. It's a bizarre anime, but not terribly so visually. Maybe Cat Soup instead.
Ayden Stewart
Choreographie without sword of the stranger shouldn't be allowed
William Anderson
Well gentlemen, say goodbye to lurk moar and embrace the "official" charts. Maybe we can accept rec threads more often now, why don't we.
Hunter Hill
Isn't there a lot of overlap between experimental and bizarre visuals? You can suggest the same shit for both categories.
Jack Thompson
>Namiuchigiwa no Muromi-san
I'm sure I remember it having quite a bit of QUALITY at times as well. It's been a while though.
Towa no Quon is a new one. I can't say I've ever watched it though. Flew right under the radar for me. How consistent in its animation was it?
Nah, this isn't really a rec chart. It's more a showcase or point of interest. Some of the things on there aren't necessarily good with their stories and such.
Experimental is mostly shorts.
Ryder Murphy
I get that it's about visuals specifically, but Shigatsu's just a terrible show overall and I really don't like the idea of putting that on a recommendation chart. I'd suggest Honey & Clover as an option that has a great and unusual color palette, but is also good as a show.
Also, since you seem to have taken out mecha as a category, I suggest Break Blade for choreography.
Are you seriously so new that the wiki full of charts made over the last decade is foreign to you?
Even if it isn't intended as such, they will be viewed as recommendations by newfags, I can guarantee it. The wiki and the charts are absolute dogshit. There is no point to them if faggots aren't going to lurk moar due to them being encouraged to post now that they have watched the "good anime".
Hudson Jenkins
There's a big difference between "I think the chartmaking that's happened for ages has always been shit" and "oh no, a chart is being made, say goodbye to lurk moar and hello to rec thread acceptance!"
Aaron Bell
Well, that's some good evidence, user. Nice work.
Hopefully I'll get around to making one for /m/ one day. I'm sure Break Blade will turn up on there.
Not so big on Honey & Clover's palette being better than Shigatsu's though. I don't think they did quite as well.
Ryder Perry
Shinsekai Yori for horror visuals >Blood The Last Vampire 2nd
Xavier Smith
>animated motion >no kyoani is this bait?
Christopher Taylor
Picking a good screenshot for Shin Sekai Yori is a tough one.
Jonathan Long
>NNB taking a spot from mushishi Ho wow
Jack Jackson
I stand by both statements. By the state of the board in recent times, this is exactly what will happen. Faggots will take it to other boards and take it as a rec thread. Then they will start posting the chart over and over again as they seek more anime similar as pseudo-recommended. We'll see the effects of it once the development stage of the chart is over. Enjoy your thread while you can.
Aiden Kelly
Since experimental seems to be mostly for indie shorts, would this be more appropriate for bizarre visuals?
Josiah Evans
We can probably do a bit better than that I'm sure.
Nathan Turner
Two more to go.
Hudson Bell
No Mushishi in Nature Scenery?
Also, no Sword of the Stranger in choreography?
Parker Ross
Redline for Animated motion.
Ryder Peterson
You guys aren't very good at reading the OP, are you?
Owen Morgan
I'm just a lazy bastard don't blame it on me.
Noah Roberts
Kyoukai no Kanata animated motion
Dylan Miller
I feel like we can find something a bit better than that, but might go for it if nothing better is found.
Dominic Gomez
Mind Game and Nichijou holy shit put a lid on this awful chart for fuck's sake.
Gavin Myers
What's wrong with them?
Matthew Wright
I'm saying fill out the last two slots so I never have to see this dumb thing again.
Hudson Cook
They're on the previous one so can't.
Luke Martin
Good god then why does this thing even exist?
Nathan Jones
Can't think of a recent better animated TV anime myself.
What about re: Cutie Honey?
Angel Cooper
Why not Nichijou for animated motions?
Hunter Hughes
Oh wait, it's on the previous one. Well, how about Kara no Kyoukai? I know it's already in Urban Scenery but perhaps we can include it in this category too.
Lucas Lopez
It has quite a bit of kinetic energy in the animation, but I dunno. The most I really remember from it is that awesome vertical running scene from the OP.
Been trying to think of something myself. Hols: Prince of the Sun is an older movie from the 60s that's surprisingly well animated and might be good for an older entry.
What categories, user? Kitaro is something which would fit in either unique style or horror really and those are filled up.
Animal Treasure Island also had the same animation director as Hols: Prince of the Sun, but I think Hols was better.
Michael Price
Oh gee I dunno which two categories have empty slots? AD means nothing, Animal Treasure Island moves more so who cares who worked on what?
Jaxson Reyes
And we're done.
Bentley Jenkins
Thanks.
Cameron Powell
Is anyone willing to tell me why Nichijou isn't in animated motion?
Colton Anderson
...
Jose Jackson
Because it was in 2013
Grayson Thompson
No probs, mate. See you in another 3 years I hope.
Caleb Wilson
Thanks senpai
Ryan Ross
I don't know why you still haven't put Aru Tabibito no Nikki/Diary of Tortov Roddle somewhere in there, for bizarre visual, maybe. youtube.com/watch?hl=id&gl=ID&v=i7F6cM_TMjI
Dead Leaves should also fit somewhere in there. It has many things, bizarre, palette, motions, framing, unique style, and other shit. youtube.com/watch?v=TCuieF9Uzgc
Adrian Robinson
I'm so happy somebody else watched Boogiepop Phantom.
Justin Mitchell
Can someone post the 2013 version. tia
Anthony Allen
It was a pretty popular title here in Australia back in the early 00s when Madman started licencing and releasing more anime. It was advertised quite a lot on other DVD previews.
Ian Garcia
Already done up top
Benjamin Mitchell
>Yuureisen But that's not even anime. What next, Thunderbolt Fantasy?
Jose Torres
It's an experimental work animating using silhouette cut-outs. It still uses the basic techniques of traditional animation.
Thomas Kelly
why would i follow a fucking chart to watch animuh?
Jack Ortiz
You should really put "made by Sup Forumsnons" somewhere so when this is inevitably passed around reddit and the rest of the internet people at least recognize the source. I guess the "my dear Sup Forumsnons" works well enough but it's your call.
John Reyes
>making troll charts
Please stop.
Luke Martinez
>popular in Austrailia
Josiah Gomez
More like there was such little anime out at the time that people were desperate to watch anything.
Carter Mitchell
>Hey, Sup Forums I'm new here and anyway I found out about this site through this chart I saw on reddit/9gag etc. I've watched _________ so can you guys recommend me other shows in similar vein as _______ ? Thanks, guys!
Christian Perry
Picking anything good from SSY is tough, especially in terms of visuals.
Ian Perez
Girl who Leapt through time and Doukyuusei should have been in animated motion.
Jonathan Powell
SSY has a lot of good ones, but this is probably my favorite.
Sebastian Long
>charts We already have several charts.
Julian Allen
Dang, that's a good one. Too late now though. Soon as one of these things is filled out it's already saved.
Noah Green
Concrete Revolution should've made it on desu, it got vibrant colors and very smooth action. The plot might've been shit, but the visuals sure as fuck wasn't
William Hill
>The plot might've been shit But it wasnt.
Ian Nguyen
Not him but the reality is that no one but anons will see this chart in the first place anyway. Also shit like that actually gets deleted and banned quite fast.
Nicholas Miller
All the other Sup Forums charts have ended up on imgur and one can only guess how often they've been posted to leddit.
Soon enough they'll make fun of this shitty chart that doesn't even contain Reddit:Zero, Boku Dake ga Netorareta Machi and One Joke Man.
