Whats a show you like a lot better when looking back on it in retrospect rather then while you were actually watching it?

So Evangelion?
Shin Sekai Yori, I was bored for a fair bit of it but the ending just blew me away and made me see the whole thing in a different light.
probably all of my favorite shows
Nyan koi right? Or something like that. About a guy and cats and that one voice actress who goes "OH MY GAH! PINEAPPLE".
Haruhi Suzumiya
I liked the premise at the beginning but it got kind of mediocre at parts and then of course there was the endless eight. But the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya or more specificaly this scene youtube.com
A really forgettable show, except for the part where they did twin heroines so fucking right.
ey fuck you mayn
I think most of the shows I watch are like this.
Over time my memories slightly warp and it makes rewatching really interesting.
can you give an example?
Eupho is one which the more I thought about it the more I liked it. Eventually I gave in and rewatched it, I'd consider it an all time favourite now. Very excited to see it continued, hope the story gets a satisfying end. Things typically go the other way around for me though, I tend to cool down on a lot of series I enjoyed while watching. Rakugo, Shirobako, Kyousougiga to name some recent ones which I liked a whole lot but didn't stick.
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Hyouge Mono, I got to like episode 24 of it and really disliked it, but after becoming more well versed in Buddhist/Zen philosophy I've really started to understand it.
I really need to give it a rewatch and see what I missed, I thought it was just a really boring historical anime.
What stuff about buddhism/zen philosophy do I need to know in order to enjoy Hyouge Mono?
Haruhi, with the broadcast order it was a bit odd, but it clicked after.
Almost every anime movie.
Aside from a couple Ghibli movies and all of Kyoani's movies, anime movies bore me and I start waiting for it to end. However looking back on it I think "oh it wasn't so bad".
Zen Buddhism is highly influenced by Taoism, another eastern philosophy, which aims at a constant present moment awareness unimpeded by thought or concepts.
A major part of Hyouge Mono is the Japanese Tea ceremony which is heavily influenced by the simplicity of Zen Buddhism and the emphasis on uninterrupted flowing action.
You don't absolutely need to know anything about it to enjoy Hyouge Mono but it definitely enhances it.

Tesagure! Bukatsumono
I really loved Hyouge Mono for about 10 or so episodes, but eventually the novelty of Sasuke's facial expressions wore off and the plot got dull once Nobunaga died. I dropped it at 25, but I'd like to pick it up again eventually because it had so much going for it and I can't really justify why I got bored.
Probably something like the first season of DRRR. When I watched it I just thought of it as not-Baccano.
Gurren Lagann.
The first half has some weird animations, some overbearing or underused characterizations that all pays off in the end of the second half.
Did not realize how good and clever Yoko's fanservice was until much later.
>Did not realize how good and clever Yoko's fanservice was until much later.
I think that's called puberty.
No, I mean the context of when they are used. Yoko doesn't bounce like crazy at every scene like so many fanservice anime do. There's always a male gaze present when she bounces. She's also covered like a fucking nun when there's no need for any focus on her.
yoko's probably the most restrained fanservice girl in anime in proportion to the amount of skin shown on her.
>manga in hiatus hell
>s2 never
I feel like Madoka was better on the rewatch. Sure, you lose a lot of the shock value and plot twists, but the appreciation of what is presented is deeper since you have an understanding of what's going on. This goes double for Rebellion.
Kiss x sis
Not even joking, i loved that shit. Or so it seems because i couldnt stop myself from going back to it.
K-On!

>tfw don't even know what anime my reaction image is from
Pic related. There's something subtle about it that I appreciate more and more every time I remember it. Definitely due for a rewatch. Hell even the dub was alright.
also One of the only harem romcoms (really a love triangle since delinquent and poster girl were the only relevant women) I genuinely enjoyed aside from guilty pleasure/fanservice.
Nyan Koi my nigger. Give it a try.
I liked the dub when Chiho and Emi fight in public.
shittalking always works best in language you are familiar with.
dubs has it right, its a genuine enjoyable comedy/harem romcom. also talking cats
