1997 was better than the manga or is it me?

Berserk only has one good arc and '97 improved it.

Yes.

/thread

how did it improve it?

I wouldn't really say it's a full improvement, there is added and lost value here and there.

But the mood of the anime is just incredible, when the manga's beginning (and art) feels just bland, the overdetail with simili-realistic-but-style-weird-looking-characters doesn't help.

Okay, the anime has limited animation.

Are movies better than 97 anime? Haven't watch any

The 2016 anime is best nostalgiafags

The movies have some good points (being the storyboarding of some scenes, that are better than both the manga and 97 anime, for example the assassination scene).

But the mood isn't as striking as the 97 anime (the 97 anime mood is really unexpected though when you come from the manga, it's like something else). The 3DCG is horrendous but didn't bother me that much, you don't see it that often anyway. The 2D parts are nice but kinda plain.

Ha no

It streamlined the story by cutting out unnecessary scenes which made it more enjoyable for me. If it had a better ending then it would basically be perfect.

How do you not like the ending? It was a perfect bad ending. The first ep and post-ending should have been cut tho

I just needed more after the end of the anime: some falling action, something to tie the story up. They could have just thrown the skull knight in there: he saves Guts and Casca, we get a scene of them escaping, Guts cursing Griffith and that would be enough for me. Ending the anime mid-rape was just a bad idea. The only concession I can make is that it works as a "how we got here" in reference to episode 1. It explains why Guys hates Griffith. But that conceptual explanation doesn't do it for me. The ending it still too abrupt.

the animation was hot garbage and it cut out a vital portion in Guts' childhood, also the ending was awful and The Black Swordsman arc makes the eclipse more impactful.

There are a couple of great scenes from Guts' childhood that I admit I would have liked to see. Guts running away from the camp and fighting off all of those wolves is an amazing scene that I would have liked to see adapted.

The art and animation could be better, but for 1997 I think it's acceptable.

What are your thoughts on Wyald
getting cut from both anime adaptations, Sup Forums?

Wyald's part was the weakest moment in golden age

But it's so bad it's good, I mean, Guts cutting a demon's dick off and stuff

As I understand it there's endless flamewars between people who liked the anime better and people who prefer the manga,
so prepare to see this thread go up in flames.
You're right, tho.

it's cool, but it doesn't really fit into a golden age anime
and now that the tone has gone from dark fantasy to high fantasy and Guts has gone from a somewhat superhuman to a powerlevel ramping wolf demon the tone of the manga has been thrown out the window
at the very least I can be content to know that cocksucker Miura will pull a ZnT and die before he finishes but it's a shame because Berserk had a lot more promise. The anime really just tries to salvage something from the wreck and including Wyald would be pretty unfitting, no matter how bad ass it was.
