Anyone who uses this as evidence is simply new to Pokémon and has never experienced the hype leading up to a new game release.

The information released for BW and XY didn't include "You can challenge gyms/a league!" It included all the new features that were in the game. Like the Pokémon Global Link, triple and rotation battles, trainer customization, bench sitting, Poké Mon Amie, etc. And not a single person said "Woah there's no gyms this time!" simply because the news didn't state redundant information.
