I somewhat agree with you man but I'd blame it on the boomer generation, at least in my case, my parents were borderline hippies. Never told me to do anything, never punished or rewarded me for something, just let me do my own thing. I can't say it turned out bad for me, I live a pretty decent life both socially and economically but I cannot say the same for most other people.
