What is it with shonen and the cliches? It always plays these cliches and people seem to love it.
I don't really have a problem with the Rescue Arc or the tournament arc, but it's just too done nowadays.
What does Sup Forums think about it?

Woah.
What do you mean by nowadays? The only recent one I can think of was Hero Academia's Bakugou resuce arc.
It doesn't HAVE to be that way though?
What about the Tournament? And by nowadays I mean "as of 2016"
Like, we've seen the rescue arc a million times, and we've seen the Tournament another million times. Practically every battle shonen has those.
Feel free to post other cliches too
>Feel free to post other cliches too
Trite complaints about shonen cliches is a cliche.
Cliches are cliches for a reason.
Shounen are made for literal twelve year olds to help fill out 700 chapters for monthly manga magazines. Of course they're going to have tons of easy to digest cliches because it helps pad out the series.
You can blame pic related for those 2 and a few more.
Scratch that, you can blame(or thank) Kurumada for 90% of battle shonen "cliches", he made them.
Definetelt blame him for fujoshi though.
Definetely*
Wanting shonen to be rid of cliches is like wanting Sesame Street to become a gritty, serious police drama where the big bird is trying to avenge his family.
Literally who
Literally google it you moron
Kill yourself
Even Hunter X Hunter has a rescue arc.
At least it doesn't have a tournament arc.
Heaven's Arena dude.
I can't believe I forgot.
Saint Seiya did it right.
Well Togashi is inspired by Goes to Kubo as well
The Hunter Exam was kind of a tournament arc too.
FMA, Fist of The North Star, and Bleach (of all things) are the only ones I can think of that never had a tournament.
All this guy's characters look the same
Well yeah, they're all actors playing different roles.
I'm not joking.
Soul Eater had a pretty good Rescue Arc. Gave character development and everythang
Underated post
JOJO dont have any if I remember right
Stardust crusaders was basically a big rescue arc.
>What is the entirety of Part 3
It's not a rescue arc
They just go beat down the main antagonist
Dio didn't abduct anyone
>who is Holly
Jojo doesn't have any tournament arcs at the very least.
Bleach barely had any arc tho, despite running for almost 15 years
They didn't really rescued holly
She wasn't abducted
Then maybe my definition of rescue is shit but i stand on my point
It's not about abduction. But it can be
gee i dunno those editors are all crazy demanding that the writers put in recue arcs when they are all so popular
wan piss has had like 8 you don't people bitching about those
The Steel Ball Run race sort of counts.
it's an easy way to ship characters off to a strange land or unfamiliar territory usually controlled by the series antagonists, witch will result in a large conflict
as for the tournament arc, it's just an easy excuse to have characters fight each other
>yfw Bleach did it TWICE
saint seyias author
I like it. I mean, it's not like I watch/read battle shounen much anyway, and when I do, I'm fucking expecting tournament arcs and rescues. Why would I bother with them otherwise? If I don't want battle shounen cliches I'd be watching/reading something that isn't a battle shounen.
Nah the race was just a plot device
Halfway in the manga ut's already clear that gyro and johnny wont win and stopped giving a fuck about the race
>Number One starts playing
Twice in a row. Same with Naruto. One Piece has 4, but they were at least they were spread apart.
A lot of tournament arcs are plot devices, they always lead to something else
is this true?
hokuto no ken had a rescue arc, and kurumada gets tones of inspiration from HnK.
RnK: 1977 – 1981
HnK: 1983 – 1988
who's Woah?
No he doesn't. It's all from Ring ni Kakero
>Definetelt blame him for fujoshi though.
Blame Homer and whoever wrote Gilgamesh for fujoshi.
You mean Hara gets tones of inspiration from RNK
Bump
Magi hasnt had a tournament arc or much of a rescue arc either
Kill yourself.
Actual answer: rescue arcs are a cheap tactic designed to take a character you've run out of ideas for and use them as everyone else's "motivation" when you've also run out of plot ideas
What if you start with a rescue arc?
