How much of Russia's population idolizes the USSR? How much is Russia trying to restore it's USSR-days geopolitical influence? I am told all the time "we are not communist anymore blyat" but I find it hard to believe Russians do not want to go back to that time of being an actual empire in the world, plus I find it even harder to believe they forgot all their disinformation and propaganda tactics from that time period.
Even now, most of Russia's allys are former communist states or former countries under its influence. Iran and Syria are two examples that were not necessarily communist but under its influence extensively during the 60s and 70s. Iran almost underwent a commie revolution as well.
