DMC

Is the devil may cry anime worth watching?

Where does it take place in the timeline?

After 3, before 1. It's shit though so don't bother

...

The thing about the DMC anime is that it's not for the "modern" DMC fanbase that only cares about totally epic combos and wacky one liners

It's very heavily based on DMC1 in tone when dante was more like a noir detective based very heavily on cobra instead of the ninja turtle with magic powers that itsuno turned him into

If you wanted to see totally awesome fight scenes like the cutscenes of dmc3/4 you'll be disappointed because most of the fight scenes are skipped over in some visually clever way.

For a fan of the series it offers an interesting perspective on dante's life is like when he's not fighting big world ending threats. I thought it was pretty good, and way way better then the bayonetta anime that was just constant shitty fight scenes.

for the love of god watch the dub

combos are the point of dmc though

No . It is the worst madhouse adaption. The opening was good tho . The rest is shit

>brother joins you so he can handicap you in a fight

Fuck you Vergil

I liked it.

It wasn't amazing, but I'm a fan of self contained adventure/mystery series and it was interesting to hear Ruben Langdon actually act. The visual direction and music was quite good, too.

If you think that it's somehow a bad adaption of DMC then you aren't as much of a fan of the series as you think you are.

I enjoyed it because I love DMC and just seeing Dante in his everyday life was cool to me. But by itself as an anime it's utter garbage. Also I didn't watch the dub but how is it any better?

Having dante's actual VA helps a lot. The JP one isn't BAD but it's not great either.

I'd also argue that a series that's so heavily "western" in it's feel works better with a pumped up english script instead of a translated japanese one, but that's more opinion based.

If Dante and Vergil did a fusion dance, they would look a lot like Archer.

No, it's in-between 1 and 4. Timeline actually goes like this:

3 - 1 - Anime - 4 - 2

Why does he act nothing like Dante in 4 then?

Because DMC4 wasn't out yet and TOTALLY CUHRAYZEE dante was supposed to just be dante as a punk kid and a phase he grew out of to become more suave dmc1 dante (as shown by the ending of dmc3), which is what the anime goes with

It was only with dmc4, the game that ruined the series, that we have middle age dante acting like a teenager.

>DMC 4 ruined the series
Get the fuck out pleb, Dante has the power of a god it makes sense he just dicks around to enjoy himself.

4 wasn't out yet, so all they had to work with for cues on how he'll act in the future was DMC2 and maybe the novels.

>Dante has the power of a god
Which is why you spend half the game playing as shitty nero and why they rebooted the series.

Opening theme is golden and the opening itself was pretty damn good.

Everything past the first maybe 10 minutes is shit, feel free to drop it after that.

>Reboot
Let's not talk about that user not even capcom does anymore

>characters are fit into molds that only vaguely resemble their original versions
>lol always broke so original
>all the bombast, if any, is reserved for a two minute stretch at the end of every episode, mostly offscreen
>original the character pet loli
It sucked. They could adapt the shitty novels and it would have been more fun.

That game bombed so hard the head developer had to shave his head to avoid comparisons with "New" Dante.

Man I love the DMC danbase. Those E3 threads were glorious.

That was such a glorious shit show, I can hardly believe it ended over three years ago.

>make game that is actually fun for once
>everyone complains "not muh dante"
This is why video games went to shit.

>fun for once
>limited combat
>shitty story
>ruining Virgils charatcer
No.

>posting low quality bait

I'm just amazed that the "Project CUHRAZEE" actually worked to some degree.

I totally dig idea of a monster-of-the-week show starring Dante and pals, problem is the action was kinda dull. Dante one-shots almost everything like he's playing on Heaven Or Hell mode (but with normal health), and the editing and camera work were sloppy at times.

They'd probably look like Sparda. Red and blue make purple, after all.

I remember it cracking the top 20 games on Amazon the entire week of DmC's release while DmC fell off the top 100 the day of. What a time to be an asshole with no job.

>Reboot series with new protagonist so more people can relate to him
>Supposed to be edgier and more angst driven so more younger people will buy the game
>Spit in fans face to get more money.

No, people like you buying the shit companies feed to them makes them continue to put out shitty media.

I wonder if there is another form of entertainment lead by the Japanese that has gone to shit? I would think it's for the same reason: the larger number of consumers eat up poor content shoveled to them because of brand and genre loyalty, only buying things by certain companies and genres, believing it to be of the highest quality on those two merits alone.

Something about "Moving Cantonese Drawings." I think it was.

You have a really confused message here. Are you saying that the changes of DmC were good? If not, then you're second bit about stagnation and shoveling brand loyalty is at odds with that. If you are saying DmC was good then why do you mention spitting in fans faces like its a negative while extolling changes made to reach a larger number of consumers which you later decry?

And DmC is conceptually a Western take on a Japanese property that would have been much worse had Capcom's JP staff decided not to actually rein in some of the changes and actually fix some of the gameplay issues.

It's also a very important lesson in doing your research on potential business partners. I don't think Capcom really understood what they were dealing with, which was a C-list copycat developer run by vain, fading Gen X-ers. They originally wanted Sony Santa Monica to do it, but those guys had actual success and no real reason to ride someone else's wave, so they were sent to the developer for Sony's dollar store God of War, Ninja Theory. The Japanese don't pay much attention to the western market, so they didn't know that Heavenly Sword was a complete non-starter and lost so much money that Sony actually bought out the three game deal they had rather than continue. They also didn't know that Tammy Tam the Fuck You Man was a preening bitch who talked shit about his peers constantly, which is a PR nightmare if anybody is actually paying attention. Add to this their complete bush league approach to design and hilarious misspending it turned into a shitfest that made Capcom restructure their entire business model to prevent further damage to their brand.

Then again, it's Capcom and they deserve a few hard lessons.

>brother joins you so he can handicap you in a fight
Plug in a second controller

>give your series to a Western dev because you want to bring Western writing sensibilities to your IP
>give it to a dev that specializes in dogshit gameplay and had previously outsourced their scripts
That's almost as bad as giving Berserk to some faggot who specializes in low quality moe bullshit

Not going to lie, this was the only way I beat it on DMD years ago. I had my brother play as Vergil and kill him for me while I stayed away and tried to take as little damage as possible

>TOTALLY CUHRAYZEE
>we have middle age dante acting like a teenager
All it actually did was make Dante less of a stick in the mud and keep things consistent with how he was young and what he would've actually grown into, he's still very grown up and adult in DMC4

It obviously didn't help that his campaign was lack luster and rushed but I swear some of you people only ever looked at the few wacky cutscenes he had while he was alone or fighting off enemies and ignored the rest of the custscenes and all of his interactions with other characters, specially those with Nero, young Dante would've never acted so maturely

People call him Uncle Dante for a reason, he may be wacky at times but when it matters he'll show maturity and wisdom that comes from experience, contrasting to Nero's youth and impulsiveness, dude lets emotions get the better of him and gets himself into shit, so his uncle has to bail his ass

So I guess you have some astute reason to believe a DMC anime by Trigger wouldn't be the bee's knees.

If you mean that there is a reason why DMC shouldn't be done in an Imaishi-esque style, yeah, there's plenty of reason. Firstly the original DMC heavily borrows from dark gothic imagery and even has a kind of goth cheesy story and trappings. Add onto that part of the visuals is about having a mix between a realistic look and perspective with very unrealistic action. These aren't things studio trigger is really known for.

Not the other guy.

>visually clever way
>Dante swings his sword once, blood splat all over and wins

Shame Ruben is a nuthead now these days.

>Firstly the original DMC heavily borrows from dark gothic imagery and even has a kind of goth cheesy story and trappings
Except that's not the DMC image anymore. I can respect a purist, but if Kamiya has moved on, so should you.

>DMC1 Dante lets some bitch barge into his business and destroy half of it, he retardedly destroys the rest by shooting a motorcycle til it catches fire
>DMC3 Dante stylishly beats up demons until his building collapses
Honestly, how can anyone prefer DMC/DMC2/Animu boring stoic Dante over DMC3's Surfer Dante and DMC4's Uncle Dante? That sexy velvet outfit from DMC2 was neat but the character himself was practically rebooted with the best possible results in DMC3.
