truck guy here. first truck i had was a 77 chevy scottsdale, and i had a blast in it. fell in love with trucks then. they're fun for off roading if you're in an area for that. they're also good for camping, either transporting camping supplies, or just throwing a shell on it and sleeping in the back. depends on your lifestyle, really. if you're mostly an urban guy, then there isn't much use for them unless it's a work truck.
