Decent series or babby's first edgy anime/manga?

Decent series or babby's first edgy anime/manga?

Berserk is pretty good (and pretty edgy too)

it was my second anime
my first was kenshin

Ya te vi!

It's both.

Just finished watching it for the first
10/10
Definitely had it's flaws Yuka but overall was by far one of the best animes I've seen in a long time

Babby's first edgy anime, decent manga.

I honestly don't know if I enjoyed the anime or the manga more. To be honest the manga feels like a bit of a trainwreck in the later half.

That's what makes it good, though. It's all about the ridiculous twists and mood whiplashes.

it was poo, far too much cringe and cheese and broken plot points
i want to like it but i just can't
would be good if they adapted the whole manga and got decent writers
tbf it would still be pretty bad probably but it would be enjoyable at least

what is up in this thread. i thought Sup Forums hated EL?

9/10 threads don't turn these people up, it seems.

The stuff that made Sup Forums loathe Elfen Lied and its fanbase pretty much all originates in the edgy anime adaptation. Once the manga got fully translated and people learned about it, they noticed it was an okay read, since it's edgy in a much more ironic way.

It got shitposted to hell and back in the days when it was still possible to spam threads to death. Back then it had a easily targetted shitty fanbase of anime newfags. Now we're in a time when mediocre early-to-mid 2000s anime are rarely talked about, hardly anyone who cared enough remembers it anymore.
So what we're left with is a kinda shit anime that people seem to think they ought to hate more than they actually do. Aren't trends an interesting thing?

It also helps that there's been an edgy resurgence in anime and manga over the past several years. EL looks pretty tame in comparison now.

Didn't make much sense to me.

I figured all the shitposters would be busy in the bleach threads today

I can't believe that other manga by the same author ended so absolutely shit.

I guess I was just kinda annoyed by how Lucy was able to one shot the final boss guy and the giant brain
it was pretty anticlimactic

Opening is the only good thing about the show.

>babby's first edgy anime/manga?
This would be evangelion.
There is a lot going wrong in this show. Important parts cut from the manga, the fact all the plot is built upon a huge amount of coincidences, the double amnesia plot device.
All this stuff make everything feel awkward, but is not as terrible as many people say.
Overally is better gokukoku no brynhildir (the manga) that is basically elfen lied revised and corrected.

The hate was cause EL became briefly very popular and so was spammed a lot. Some people became fed up cause in the end is not like it was some masterpiece. Is not that EL itself is so shitty.

hey now i liked be your girl too

Left or right?

nozomi is absolutely pure so she wins by default

>mfw I just finished Elfen Lied and I'm now on episode 22 of NGE
I'm still fairly normie but my friends talk about anime so I've been trying to get into it. Is it common for anime to have unrelenting perviness and annoying (I mean ANNOYING) characters like Nyu? I loved EL except for Nyu and the love triangle, which I hated enough to make me not recommend the show while the rest I thought was seriously good sci-fi.
Do I keep looking or does this mean most anime just isn't for me?

I've seen Kurozuka (first one for me; it was free on Crackle), most of Noir, and Attack on Titan (for mind-numbing entertainment; the story isn't great imo) and enjoyed those. As far as films go I've seen Akira (good), Grave of the Fireflies (god tier), and all but the last few minutes of Mononoke (pretty epic).
So far I watch exclusively dubbed. :/

What if I told you anime isn't a genre?

Being retard is so moe moe kawaii.
I fucking hate this fucking trope inwhich a cool badass girl is a retard most of the time.

>unrelenting perviness
>loved EL except for Nyu and the love triangle
avoid the harem genre

reee where's the bottom half

please check the recommendation charts and learn how to use public torrents like nyaa and bakabt, they're hardly esoteric

but yes try watching kaiji and mushishi if you'd like less aggressively shonen entry-level material

Considering what little I've seen covers sci-fi, action, fantasy, and historical fiction, I figured that out. I'm asking what to expect if I dig deeper beneath the stuff everyone's heard of.

Is EL actual edgy or is this just Sup Forums being pussies again calling anything with a bit of blood in it "edgy"

Sup Forums being pussies again mostly
unless they're referring to the manga, that crossbow guy was edgelord supreme

...

Thanks m8. Mushishi sounds good. I prefer anthology series.

Didn't show up on here till 07-09, never saw much of it. Glad I'm not that old but age is still getting to me.

>PROMOTIONS

this was a weird one, ill point out the pro's and con's from a somewhat normie perspective.

>sweet intro
>one of the most attention grabbing first episodes I've ever seen
>as far as anime goes, pretty violent
>interesting character

then it goes way downhill from there

>retarded bi polar personality
>clearly fan service
>the writer obviously had a thing for naked chicks with pink hair
>pretty disturbing material
>questionable child pornography
>starting to look like fap bait
>the dude is a fucking idiot
>typical retarded anime shit
>the dudes cousin wants to fuck him
>suggested incest
>just more fap bait at the end of the day

and it really went downhill when they explained the characters pasts

>lucy used to be part of society
>got jealous that a dude wanted to hang out with his fucking cousin
>murdered people over this
>im supposed to somehow feel empathy for this chick
>more half naked little girls with pink hair
>ridiculous ending that doesn't really answer any question you may have had

I watched it because I heard the hype, enjoyed the first episode and then found the rest of it be weird fap bait fanservice bullshit. Maybe if there were more than 13 episodes that would have helped understand the story, but at the end of it I just felt like lucy was a fucking psychopath and every other character was morally flawed in some way. I told my other normie friend to watch it cause he wanted anime suggestions, and he felt the same way.

to anyone who hasn't seen this I would suggest watching the first episode just to see the over the top anime violence, the rest is just creepy shit that I can't really get into.

>>questionable child pornography
>>starting to look like fap bait
was this intentional

I unironically liked it.

>fap bait

Not sure what you mean

Nobody on Sup Forums has jobs nor would they browse Sup Forums if they had one, so that joke doesn't work here.

Dubs usually butchers the source material just like foreign film dubs do, just a little heads up.

I'm tired of people talking about fanservice regarding girls keepen as cattle like in nazi camps.
Do you at least see what the fuck happen in the screen?
Yeah, there is fanservice but read the fucking situation.

>the dudes cousin wants to fuck him
I looked this up since it really bothered me and it's possible they weren't actually cousins. I know in the US some people call their parents' best friends uncle or aunt (I call two people aunt and uncle even though we aren't actually related) and apparently they also do this in Japan, but there it is sometimes extended that you call your parents' friends' children cousins as well. They could have just been family friends.

Or, yaknow, incest.

...

I understand the situations and in those situations it did make sense that they would be chained up and naked, but I mean come on...some guy had to spend time drawing all this and thinking it up.

they might potentially just be family friends that were really close and thus "cousins" but im thinking its more along the lines of the writer just being a creepy dude that had a thing for his cousin irl. shes the one that wanted to fuck him in the anime, sounds like a bit of a fantasy.

or maybe im just not an artist and can't understand how truly deep this man was.

>So far I watch exclusively dubbed. :/
What do you do when a show does not have a dub?
I have watched close to 200 anime and about 75% of it was dubbed. I don't like jap versions, but I'll watch them if nothing else is available...

I have a job, I am the guy who shows up at your house and delivers the package containing your waifus, dakimakuras, blowup dolls, figurines etc. or just furniture or house appliances...

I really love it when casuals recommend anime to other casuals (or make a top list) and mention elfen lied as a good, psychological must watch masterpiece.

EL was good. Was the only anime I ever marathoned.

The way every character has a fucked up mental problem, the nudity and gore, the way nothing ever works out no matter how bright things may seem (like Kaji). Rape, pedophilia, incest undertones. It's all great.

"Psychological Horror" EL is the best example of this genre. People who don't like it bcause it's "edgy" or "intentionally shocking" are up their own asses. It's a horror anime, and when you grow up your learn to accept things for what they are. You don't watch horror anime expecting Cowboy Bebop or what the fuck ever.

Elfen Lied is a great example of an era gone past, back when anime was full of violence and sexuality and not the hunky dory BS cosplay bait we have nowadays.

>"Psychological Horror" EL is the best example of this genre.

In the manga, thought the themes of what makes someone inhuman interesting. The main characters were absolute garbage though. Limbless chick and military guy were the most engaging.

>I'm only 12 but I like EL because I'm mature for my age

GUYS IS IT MOOT

wew fucking lad. So this is what Sup Forums has become.

Babby's first. I still kind of like it though. My mom loves it.

>I had a chuunibyou phase back in middle school and I couldn't come to terms with the fact I did some dumb shit as a kid which made me insecure, so now I sneer at anything artistic that is intentionally transgressive because I'm 18 and really mature for my age.

edgyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy ;)))

...

Hating this masterpiece is like talking shit about boku no pico
