Union workers >make $45/hr starting, $60/hr after a few years >medical benefits, eye care and dental >overtime after 8 hours, overtime on weekends and holidays >due to extensive training programs, union workers aren't only a jack of all trades, they're a MASTER of all trades >solidarity with fellow workers
Private """employment""" >make $35/hr at best after years of experience >insurance is pathetic and barely covers shit >forced to work unpaid overtime and weekends or face replacement >co-workers constantly betraying each other to impress the boss who doesn't even care >can be terminated at any time for no reason at all
Face it, if you aren't in a union you ARE a cuck and probably a suburban retard too
We make just as much as the union guys because - get this - you can always join the union once you're licensed. They'll always take you just to screw over the non-union shops. So non-union has to match.
Now what union won't do is help you into the trade because they only let their buddies and family in via apprenticeship. Also if you're not someone's buddy they'll keep cycling you to the back of the wait list so you're never employed for very long.
Kayden Jones
Yeah until your body starts to break down in your early 40s from constant physical labor, is it worth it to have a complete shit body and be in constant pain in your 50s? no.
also, any job you can be terminated at any time you fucking dunce
Christian Gonzalez
I was apart of that union once
Benjamin Cooper
Virgin self employment v. Chad Union man?
if you're in a union are you able to move freely? say you want to live in another state, will your local union hamper you from doing so?
Jaxon Lopez
So make "$60" an hour, and give back half in dues? No thanks. I've seen IBEW "journeymen" who didn't even know proper wall spacing for receptacle outlets! That's green helper knowledge. Work for yourself and don't be a wage cuck for someone else. Especially not the union bosses.
Nathaniel Ramirez

>Now what union won't do is help you into the trade because they only let their buddies and family in via apprenticeship. Also if you're not someone's buddy they'll keep cycling you to the back of the wait list so you're never employed for very long.
Completely false. Was once that way decades ago. But I got in knowing absolutely nobody or anything about the trade. Their apprenticeship program is 5 years long and earns you a degree in applied science from the local community college.
I've never been laid off
Chase Clark
Ok... So how much outta $60 an hour do the bosses get back?
let us know how much you like your union when you go on strike and they won't let you work for 2 months, you wouldn't want to be a scab...
Ryan Stewart
Fuck you and your union. Your daddy probably got you the job. Nobody gets those apprentice slots without connections.
Luis Harris
I would like to know this as well
Robert Nguyen
I live in a state where you have to be a union member. All the electricians are pretty much living in poverty.
Jayden Nguyen
Depends on state really. All I had to do was take a test to get in. Hell the shop I work for now is offering money out to employees to get references of anyone with a bit of experience to work for them due to all the jobs they have lined up.
Anthony Russell
30 bucks from 560 for me in Georgia.
Blake Morris
i tried working in a union it's not worth the shitty coworkers and shitty union politics - not to mention that union dues is money you'll never get back.
The union can get you fired just as much as they can protect you - they don't really give a fuck about you unless they like you and you have seniority.
I'm glad i dont have read the creepy cult letters addressing us as "brothers and sisters" anymore, nor do i have to tolerate getting paid the same as the guy picking up leaves who never went to school.
Thomas Ross
>Depends on state really. All I had to do was take a test to get in
Gonna guess that sure as hell wasn't in the northeast. Here in PA you pay the faggy, take the test, then they hire niggers anyway.
Elijah James
As usual OP is full of shit. Those guys make closer to 50k a year.
Matthew Brown
Unions are a great thing. Protection and representation against tyrant employers and human resource railroading attempts. They will defend you and insure your human rights are not breached. Anyone arguing against unions is a mcdonalds employee.
Asher Sanchez
Pretty much, you get to hit those 6 figures only of you do overtime and/or travel.

Death to all unions
Asher Wright
IAFF local member here. Hello brothers.
Ayden Brooks
Nice 7's But, 30 + taxes on top of that taken outta your 560 adds up. I can't say it's worth it to have a job steward to complain to.
Thomas Smith
$30 a week, $200 quarterly membership
And $60 is just wages. There is another $60 in benefits on top of take home wages - health, vision, dental, pension, annuity, vacation fund, and life insurance>Nobody gets those apprentice slots without connections. Anybody who isn't a felon or a retard can get an apprenticeship. I took a an aptitude test, a math test, and an interview not knowing anyone in the trade - much less the union - nor anything about the trade. >Gonna guess that sure as hell wasn't in the northeast Local 99 (mine) is more northeast than PA
At my local it's about 80k for straight time
Death to all public unions.
Hunter White
I'm a former union carpenter in Vegas. 1 I've never met an electrician I liked. They're either pretentious union fuckups that drink monsters and eat powdered doughnuts or are piece work illegals.
2 the unions are full of illegal or quasi legal beaners bc if you have a questionable or invalid ssn, you can't draw your pension or social security. For which the govt are equally complicit.
This is socratically factual. Evidence for this... Look at any union work where actual work is going on... In concrete, particularly, a white working Carpenter is a very rare thing. Supervision is another thing... Which generally are not hourly.
Zachary Edwards
no, unions are cancerous working environments they only benefit bullies, leaches, and people who have serious personal problems and are really in no condition to work there's no incentive to perform and the anti-management/anti-change mentality is incredibly harmful to productivity and efficiency HR will never fight the union because it's a lost cause and internal complaints are always extremely biased
i mean it's alright if all you aim to do is coast and fuck the dog
Camden White
4th year apprentice. Good money. Work with idiots sometimes. The union doesn't protect retards so it's chill. Stupid = you don't work.
Juan Reyes
You're talking trade unions. Factory labor unions have been undercut via hundreds of millions of destitute foreign scabs, via free trade. Trade Tariffs NOW!
Asher Carter
Death to all public unions?
So you don't think we have a right to collective bargaining? We do it in good faith. Its not our fault politicians want re-elected and bend over backwards at times. Besides, our benefits and pay isn't over the top. We just want to earn a good living to raise a family on.
Ayden Jenkins
Unions are great except in the public sector. Fuck them. Vampires.

>$29.05 Electrician >$12.20-21.79 Electricians Apprentice Right from an IBEW lost wage calculator.
They serve the exact same function for public sector as for private sector workers. Fairness, job security, living wages, etc. There just has to be better management from higher up the government food chain than has often been the case.
Matthew Cook
>35k with years of experience. If you have at least 2 in STEM you pretty much could be making 75k a year. Pic a better career. Even when working. You should be looking for work that wants your experience.
Easton Thomas
Your collective bargaining comes in the form of voting for your boss, or whoever hires your boss. Public unions are just theft of the taxpayer via dues paid by salaries paid by taxes - and a vehicle by which to corrupt politicians.
Adding a union just causes corruption
Gabriel Watson
Different locals have different wages due to cost of living differences

>Be you >Start small manufacturing company >Union gets wind of you starting to hire >Union campaigns current employees and potential new hires about everything in the OP >Orders pick up, so you can't just say fuck it and fire everyone and start over >Give in to Union demands >Within 6 months you're overpaying lesser skilled workers in wages and benefits >Money getting paid out is 28% more than the money coming in >Ask state for a bailout >You're not so important, so denied >Go bankrupt >You lose your business >Now, no one has a job >Your former employees still have their Union buddies tho
See vehicle manufacturing companies.
Nolan Taylor
Union workers aren't jack of all trades you dumb nigger. Each union specializes in one trade ffs.
Jackson Rodriguez
>35k
You misread. $35/hr. Which is close to your 75k figure.
Logan Martin
getting experience is a hassle. getting it and then wanting a proper salary for it is god hard mode
James Hill
I don't disagree, but Im also not a federal employee. Im a municipal firefighter.
Austin Collins
Unions nowadays are a useless, money pocketing machine. Their is nothing more pathetic than a "proud" union member. Literally all of the union guys I have ever met have been lazy, childlike bums. You guys are fucking unskilled and weak.
Luke Walker
Non union sparky here. The true worktime/downtime and benefits of a union are pretty mixed depending on where you live. Where I’m from you are on a waiting list half the year if not more, apprentices even more so. I’ve watched one of the best union companies workers. It took one guy a day to do less then 30 ft of half inch with some box offsets and 90s and it took 3 journeyman a full day to put up 9 pieces of threaded rod and run some box. Sorry but I always have a job because of my skill level not because I pay some bureaucracy dues every month. Sure I’ll have shitty bosses but I will always have work and I will always be exposed to a new situation. Also there is nothing more trade unions love to do then to suck big government cock. Anytime I talk to a union worker they brag about how they do absolutely nothing and get paid cream cash. They are the losers from high school who didn’t grow up and still think that there is a benefit to themselves to act like a child or a nigger at work.
Jeremiah Thompson
>manufacturing
Can't compete due to outsourcing, hence why most tradesmen I know voted Trump, especially unionized ones.
However, construction can't be outsourced, and those are the unions we are talking about ITT
Benjamin Russell
I guess Im just a fucking jackbooted union thug. Oh well, thanks for the insight.
Jace Gutierrez
Ok so despite being extremely right wing leaning. I have to say being in a union is pretty great. Let me break this down for you guys how much it benefits me to be union. My dues cumulatively for the year of 2017 are 970$. All of which is tax deductible. I make 69.76$ per hour straight time. I'm 22 years old, and have no college degree , but the union got me my high pressure steam license, refrigeration and oiler licences for NYC. (Very biased as wages he are always naturally higher). I make 19$ per hour into my annuity. 21$ per hour into my pension. Have 0 $ copay no deductible health insurance for me, any kids I have, any wife I have and my parents. I also get to retire after 25 years of work (NYC thing). Please ask any questions you want about unions.
Nicholas Bell
Public Union member and proud.
Same job in private contract scenario pays $40,000 less and works you double as hard.
Stay mad non union wage slaves
Luis Gomez
>HR will never fight the union because it's a lost cause and internal complaints are always extremely biased Making a pro-union argument there bro
Leo Wright
Literally yes you are. You are what gives unions a bad name.
Evan Campbell
Like your pension? Guess what, that which cannot be paid, will not be paid.
Christopher White
Not true at all. Plumbers union is tied with pipefitters’ Union where I live
Austin Carter
Here's a story about pops and union. Be young pops do a thing in the NE as union member. Have super fun time working only 3 hours during 8 hour shift, he worked the most based on completion rates. Problem one everybody drinks, that makes you shit. Two union members call out a lot, so new out of state or across state brought in. Three unreliable hours due to rotation or site shut down due to low production rates. So make $25 of 70's dollars but only work 60 to 80 hrs a month. Solution work non union for 20 work as much as want retire at 48. Me BA in finance present year do not make equivalent, only joy in life online Vietnamese potter club.
Angel Nguyen
>tfw making $14/hr working at Walmart for the past 12 years

Yeah okay. We literally just take and give nothing back to the community. I can assure you my fire department is nothing like what you believe.
Brayden Wilson
I tried to join the IBEW but they wouldn't take me.
Charles Diaz
>be me, 5 weeks away from completing lineman school
>have meeting with local IBEW, shoves chart in our face saying how much they make.
>notify us in order to join union we will be on call in 5 states, and have to go to school all over again
>fast forward 3 days, instructors bring in non union contractor for a Q&A session
>one dollar less than union wages, FULL insurance for him and his wife, and he never has to be on call in 5 states
LOL literally why the fuck would anyone join a union anymore......
The only reason people still push a union in the year 2017, is because they are 15 years into a 20 year vest and are starting to realize they might never get paid out due to lack of recruitment......
I'd be shitting my pants too brethren!

>unions >not cancer
Huh?
Jacob Campbell
You misunderstand. I have nothing but the utmost respect for firefighters.
But we live in a democracy. Your union is the citizenry and congress. You don't need an extra layer.
Private unions are needed because nobody votes for a CEO.
Josiah Ramirez
Welder here, currently learning but considering joining a local union once I finish up. I have 2 questions: are wages calculated before or after dues? And what is “straight time” is that non-overtime work?
Isaiah Roberts
OP says; >Face it, if you aren't in a union you ARE a cuck and probably a suburban retard too That's the statement that made me waste my time and post here. That's the statement I was refuting. Change my manufacturing greentext to a new plumbing company, or a new metal workers LLC, a new anything really. Unions should form inside the company after many years of operation. Not the bullshit we see today. The "8 hours" meme from back in the day had it's place, today, these systems are corrupt and overblown.
Joshua White
>Simple Math >Doubtful Dayton OH to NYC the cost of living is 30% different but some how IBEW union plebs make 2x the income and apprentice plebs make 3x? I never met a union person who didnt like when people though he was a richfag. I guess thats what you call lowered expectations.
Aaron Jackson
How are you such a failure? They take kids out of high school as long as they have a basic grasp of mathematics and the English language.
Michael Bailey
>bestfriend goes to tradeschool to become a linesman >gets a sweet gig working for a public utility (unionized) >has to move around and work as an apprentice for 2 years before getting permanent >first location is great and his seniors are very helpful and he becomes a rising star >gets moved to a hick town >seniorfags are all divorced drug-abusing drunks >treat him like shit and force him to buy them beer on the job (breaking rules) for them to show him anything or even allow him to work >other apprentices bite the bullet but my buddy refuses cause he has some amount of self-respect. He also refuses to go to the pub with them after work cause he's got a young wife and kids. They start getting insecure and think he's blowing them off cause he thinks he's better than them. >they start bullying him, calling him a fag, post gay porn pictures in his lockerroom >gets so bad he complains to HR >HR investigates >Union intervenes and places blame entirely on my friend (sides with fabricated story of seniorfags) >HR succumbs to union and friend gets fired >tradeschool down the drain and the public utility has a monopoly here so he cant work anywhere else
remind me how unions are good again?
Joshua Lewis

For tax purposes it's considered a deduction from your paycheck. At which point you claim it on your tax return and get 100% of your dues back. And yes straight time is just your standard 40 hour week. Being a stationary engineer I work well over 70 hours a week. And the numbers get wonky from there like time and a half for regular OT, time and a half for any non scheduled day, if they call my phone when I'm off I get paid 4 hours, and working a 7th day straight gets me double time.
Samuel Smith
I could have joined them, but instead I work piece rate and 50/hour is readily available if I go to work to work. Unlike you lazy cunts.
You cultist pissants don't even understand triplens in the third harmonic. I swear if I have to miss piece rate work one more time because you trisomy 21 victim, collectivist fucking retards go out of spec and use shared neutrals again I'll open up the lawsuits on behalf of the company myself.

Pipe fitters and plumbers are trades that are close together. Just because skills from transfers to the other doesn't make them jack of all trades. >neither are carpenters >neither are crane operators >neither are warehouse workers >neither are electricians >neither are machinists >neither are computer programers >ect. >ect. >ect. >Neither are jack of all trades I am not wrong, you are just a an idiot.

The annuity and pension are negotiated and separate from my pay, just as my health Care is. Technically if you want to add it up it's 21+19+70+8(health care) per hour. But I didn't say that because I have no control of 3 of the categories and I can't say "hey give me that money and fuck my benefits)
