Communism is the next stage of humanity following the capitalist stage and the socialist stage.
What exactly is communism according to Marxist-Leninists:

Whose labour is exploited when people program? There’s no labour cost to copy files and make additional units. There’s also nothing stopping programmers from writing their own code away from companies, many people have done this successfully. Imagine a composer that creates his symphony.
Now imagine his orchestra comprises of 100 PERFORMERS.
He is the only COMPOSER.
In total there are 101 "labor inputs" involved in producing the final product ready for the public.
Now imagine that this performance is completed and is sold for $101.
There is clearly a hierarchy of merit/deservedness in the performance. The "performers" are easily replaced with the symphony staying the same and not losing its inherent unique identity. Where as if you change the composer you will not have the same symphony that made that $101.
The relation between mental labour and physical labour is the same. The more mental and approaching pure thought that labour is, the higher it is in the qualitative hierarchy of labour.

The workers are only able to even produce a surplus because their labour is input into a matrix that is value producing.
The worker does not exert any labour to create the environment he will input his labour into. Therefore, if his labour input produces more value than his wage it is not fully his own, since the condition in which that surplus is created is made possible by the creator of the system, i.e. the organizer of labour.
Labour does not produce any value on its own. Till a salted field all you want it will not grow. Therefore, labour, for it to be endowed with the magic of value production, must be subordinate to an external category.

Because of wealth being siphoned from the labour, companies are able to pay for R&D teams. Look at the tech industry and imagine how far it would have progressed without the massive amounts of R&D invested and pressure to compete against other countries.
