Do you remember the last time you watched anime on VHS?

Do you remember the last time you watched anime on VHS?

Too early in the day to be asking this? Am I so out of touch?

Yes.

The thread's only been up for 10 minutes man, give it time.

Out of all the tapes there I think I'd be most interested in the random Japanese tv shows ones for some reason.

That Dbz movie with the guys from another planet using a sword

Probably around 12 years ago

I want to say thirteen years ago. My stepmom used to record Sailor Moon on VHS and mail them to me in secret, because my guardian proclaimed the series to be a promoter of witchcraft, and wouldn't let me watch it.
I owned the R movie, too.

DBZ back in like 01'-02'

I still own a bunch of VHS tapes but the last VCR I owned broke over a decade ago.

Never.
I'm almost 20 and got into anime in ~5th grade, back then youtube was already a thing.

>my guardian proclaimed the series to be a promoter of witchcraft, and wouldn't let me watch it.

Unfortunately for you, Japan stopped making VCRs just last month

Nobody has made a decent VCR since 1994 anyway. The second they become popular enough, every company made them as cheap as possible.

VHS was a shit format anyway. Another example of substandard products achieving market dominance if you just push them enough.

Good taste if thats your collection. I don't see Tenchi Muyo though. Ryoko is still mai waifu

I only rented anime on VHS and never actually owned any. Also once i got my PS2 I said goodbye to VHS.

Never, I only watched anime on TV. Have you thought about digitizing that shit before the tapes degrade too much?

Dumb frog poster.

Not mine. Some guy's collection that had to be thrown away/donated when he got married.

>had to be thrown away/donated when he got married.

If she was this demanding before the wedding, imagine afterwards. Fuck 3d.

>Pat Labor
>Two words
I'm triggered. Also, is that dubbed? If so, I feel for you. The dub of the TV show was horrendous.

What a pussy ass little bitch.

I remember when this would've been a gold mine back in the tape trading days.

I'm an old man now. Where has the time gone?

Jerking off and scrolling through threads eats up more time than it sounds like.

>Where has the time gone?
It was stolen from us.

for a second there i couldn't figure out how those vhs's were floating.

jealous of those KOR tapes. I guess maybe like 20 years ago or so.

Does anyone miss the "FUCK SOMEBODY ADJUST THE TRACKING!!"

What was anime like in the 80s & 90s user? Tell me a story.

I sure hope those are softsubs.

Last week, I have a Turn A Gundam Moonlight Butterfly Tape that is my holy grail of anime stuff. No group name, no website, no email, or irc info. I've researched who could have mad it simply out of curiosity but haven't had any luck.

Are those pictures of your personal collection?

>blockbuster anime section
>watch bunch of animu
>Watch one, pretty fanservicy. Then suddenly porn
>turns out they just mixed normal anime and hentai with eachother
3dpd never stood a chance

>Softsubs
>On a VHS Tape

Fuck off, Sony, and kill Aniplex while you're at it..

I used to tape Escaflowne for my brother when it aired (in 2002) but I'm not sure if I watched those myself.

I think he may be making a joke.

My parents were also against anime. No idea why but they hated it for some reason. Then years later when I lived on my own I started to watch anime because of Sup Forums

>not being fan of them both

2007. My VCR is still alive and strong.

The First Pokemon movie, probably.
So shit, around 1999 I guess.

It's better than VCD at the very least.

I saw a rather sizable collection (multiple shelfs) of official anime VHSs at Goodwill some months ago. Most spanned the decade of the 90s. The oddity collector in me wanted to buy them, but the huge amount of space and their general uselessness (and at 2 bucks a VHS, the cost was way too much) made it prohibitive.

I'm sure they all ended up in the trash. That goodwill was in the sticks so I tend to imagine some guy living in the middle of a cornfield died or got married.

I've still got a couple robotech VHSs I'm seriously considering getting rid of as well as Little Nemo and some assorted episodes of the hello kitty and keroppi anime.

YKK which I still have.

yes it was last Friday watching an off-air recording of GITS 2nd Gig, I am surprised the tape (and tape recorder) held up after thirteen plus years since I brought them out.

I'd like to own the Laserdisc of that one day. Would own it already if my machine didn't die. Did you order those online, or is there a story behind that?

Every single day when I watch HorribleSubs 1080p upscales. Sometimes I even put scanlines on it for true nostalgic flavor.

There's literally nothing wrong with streaming HorribleSubs.

Unless you dislike bad quality.

Had pokemon and dbz vhs last time I used a vhs was probably 1999.

Who didn't. A friend of mine had EVERY Dragon ball Z episode on VHS, plus all the movies, plus all of Dragon Ball. One wall in his bedroom was literally dedicated just to DragonBall on VHS. He even had the Uncut & cut versions separated.

Shame I lost contact with him. I wonder where those tapes are now.

This

pretty much owned the vhs for every anime that showed on toonami up until -maybe- early 2001, if that means anything

i sold them years ago to pursue other things, like dodge chargers and such

I've had them for a long time, I had a lot more but I don't think I will ever find them again, I used to have Ah My Mini Goddesses, You're Under Arrest and bunch of miss-matched VHS.

Shame they're all slowly de-magnetizing. who knows how long they could last. I have tapes recorded off TV from 1989 that look brand new when played, but most of my VHS look terrible & don't track properly anymore.

Either contribute to the topic or don't.

Same, Although I donated just about all of mine.

Around 2001-2002. I remember it was horribly sub-titled, badly recorded, Azumanga Daioh.

It's been at least 15 years, but I went digital as soon as it was an option.

>You will never know what it feels like to push a VHS tape into a VCR.
I know people in this day and age that don't even know how to use disk.

I retrieved some old VHS tapes from a ex girlfriend in 2006 and there were some dubbed episodes of Saint Seiya and Rayearth in some of those tapes, so I would guess 2006 or maybe 2007 was the last time I did watch anime in a VHS tape.

anyone still have the VHS tape of dragon pink?

if you do have one then..
good for you ;_;

How are they holding the tapes up like that?

magnets

nice trips

The picture was taken in Australia.

I remember last time I watched it on Laserdisc. Looks great; especially compared to many of the discs I get my hands on that suffer from age.

>scanlines

You can't see those in an interlaced video unless you pause...

>more people were yuri fans
What a fags. Kei was always the best

Yuri is a more traditional girl while kei was a tomboy. Nips hate proactive girls, see Rei vs Asuka, all haremshit

>VHS
The fuck is this?

Its what old people have, because buying new copies of things you already own when a new media format comes out is retarded.

Anyways, I have a dual DVD/VCR and basically inherited all the VHS tapes I want from my parents (along with their records), but no anime tapes.

Got any home made porn from your parents mixed in the lot?

I'm so glad we have straight up digital formats now. The amount of VHS and DVD's i fucked up by constantly rewinding scenes i like.

>Its what old people have,
Is there a cure for it?

I didn't take any recorded tapes.

As for the format, I like watching anime on a tube TV (fortunately kept my nice mid 2000s tube mostly for vidya), but I don't have any attachment to VHS specifically. Tapes in general are very susceptible to wear and age.

Should have forked out for one of these like serious enthusiasts.

Time.

No, but I still have all the tapes I bought from Suncoast video back in the day.

Death, it will happen to you too.

There was a Chinese supermarket by my house that sold anime on VHS tapes. Since I was a kid it was either Zoids or Yuyu hakusho.

The last time I remember was around 2001 or 2 when I was showing stuff at anime club in high school.

I know this is a joke, but is there any decent crt shader for mpc-hc? Found a couple, but they weren't very good.

And japs even back in day had shit taste. They probably didnt like Noa Izumi either

I still have recorded Cowboy Bebop on VHS

about 14 years ago. I watched the first vhs of trigun with my dad.

Yes, the Digimon movie, at least 10 years ago.
I watched it countless times.

>Going back to parents house
>Remenber I had the Pokémon Movie VHS and somehow really wanted to watch it
>They trashed the whole VHS collection because there was a fuck ton of ants inside.

My whole collection went down the drain because of a fucking flood.

Not really. Got everything in digital form and recycled the fuck out of old tapes. they took up too much space.

spic dub heidi, long long ago

Don't you know there was more than one?

I used to rent that shit all the times when I was young.
