The text is obviously aimed at a beginner, using basic day-to-day vocabulary.
If you don't understand it as park, it's purely because you're intentionally misunderstanding it.

Saturday I went to a shrine by myself. There's a lot of stalls. I bought a charm from one of them.

I woke up late at Sunday. My mother did, too. I watched morning TV. After that, I ate lunch with my mother. At the afternoon, I studied Japanese. I also read a book.

Well that was basic, but motivating in an odd way.

You don't use 講演 for university lectures though, the term is mostly used for more formal speeches and lectures like that in symposiums and shit. For university lectures you say 講義　(compare google image result for both to see the difference in use).

Besides it's blatantly obvious from the overall juvenile and simple context that you wouldn't use a word like that, much less express yourself in a way that says "Me and my friend went to a lecture, and we talked there."

Give me one reason why I should waste my time with learning Japanese. I only watch anime and while I definetely want to visit Japan, it would probably be a waste of time to learn the language.

Learning a language is very good mental exercise, and this one lets you pretend your chinese cartoons are helping. You don't want to be senile at age 50, right?

I don't have that much free time. When I come home I just want to relax. I would love to learn new languages but it's not fun at all so I could be doing things that are much more fun.

That's fair. My job, while tiring, is pretty repetitive, and after a while out of university I didn't like feeling like I had stopped learning things. It's more a productive way to spend spare time than any kind of great quest, either way. If I didn't have as much spare time (and canadian winters that basically sticks me inside pretty much all day), I probably wouldn't have bothered.

The time of fast subs is over. Now you have to wait days to weeks for anime subs of dubious quality.
Even if you don't read books or play games now you may want to in the future and there's always extra articles or websites you would be able to read.
