If the aesthetics of manga is the only thing putting you off then you're going to have to branch out to some more niche manga that have a more unique style.

Ehh not really. It's true the art and story are good but you might find something that tickles your fancy more. As for middle ages fantasy specifically Berserk is hard to beat and I don't have exhaustive knowledge but I would point you in the direction of Claymore or Vinland Saga (second one is not really fantasy).

I had the same problem when I started out as well, Berserk was my first "real" manga. But uh, Vinland Saga and Vagabond are the next step I guess, Akira too for super detailed art.
JoJo's style just seems so waaaaaaay over the top.

Fist anime is pretty damn good, but in general I always believe book>manga>anime for most scenarios.
Takes a special anime to beat its manga counterpart. Mainly because Japanese are almost always vocalized by women and most actual male voice actors sound like women anyways.
