Kingsglaive

Is it alright to discuss Kingsglaive here on Sup Forums, or should i move over to wherever?
If it's okay: What is your opinion about Kingsglaive?
Did you like? Did you hate it?
I think it's just Advent Children all over again. But somehow even more shittier.

/thread.

>I think it's just Advent Children all over again. But somehow even more shittier.
Explain please.

Shit movie again except this time it's not just a cash-in it's a death rattle of a dying company + franchise

Don't like the setting
Don't like the Luna (visually)
Don't like event sequence and tell-don't-show approach
Don't like the finisher being mimiced by giant not-robits in the background
Don't like Noctis being such a loser, loligagging with fujobois while everyone's dying
Don't like the marriage seen as ultimate saving the world
Don't like their knives being so shitty while old kings used based 2h weaponry
Don't like the idea of the empire doing all that just to obtain what they could've otherwise done by pushing the invasion further
Don't like that Nyx was a generic husbando made to perish and be utterly forgotten
Don't like the king's UBW being so useless instead of skewering the enemy in his throne room
Don't like Nyx being so useless with teleportation and a knife while his enemy has a broken helmet.
Don't like that they didn't make armors fashioned out of whatever that Audi was made of
Don't like that Luna made like she was blending into the crowd at the end despite her wearing royal garb and nobody touching her
Don't like the octopus failing to crush Luna when she was in his grasp
Don't like the old kings reasoning for protecting the capital for a hundred years to suddenly fail it
Don't like that the witches performing the great firestorm at the start weren't used in any way

Great visuals and good animation. But that was it. The plot is fucking stupid, the dialog was shitty with cringy one-liners. I didn't learn anything new about the world or the importance of certain characters. With FF Advent Children you at least somewhat knew the characters because you played the game. With Kingsglaive you just didn't care at all. And the fight scenes were also pretty fucking boring and always the same. FF AC had at least some sort of choreography. And don't even get me started on all the technical shit. Square Enix makes superb CGI movies. They have great composers (for music) and outstanding animators. To bad they have shitty directors and apparently writers straight out of 7th grade.

Get the fuck out of Sup Forums with this westernized garbage.

How is this westernized?

It hurts, user. It hurts.

Oh, this is what you meant. Yeah. Her new design is pretty shitty. I personally was a fan of the very first one.

You thought i was him but i was actually Have another.

YAMERO

>Final Fantasy Spirits Within: sorta good movie, impressive CG, its own plot
>gets treated super harsh
>Final Fantasy Advent Children: fanservice shit for a shit game
>everyone raves their pants off

Sorry, user. My bad.
Say, was Nomura even involved in Making XV? Or did he just left. Wikipedia says that Tabata is the leading director and doesn't mention Nomura at all.

There isn't a japanese dubbed out there yet, i think. Also, the mouths were modeled for the english dub. Which is strange, considering there were some passages that weren't in sync at all.
Do you guys in the us have like, professional voice actors? Or do you just use normal actors for dubbing? Because god fuck, it was pretty awful.

>story is dull and emotionally removed

What the hell is wrong with these people?

I guess the audience review is more positive for Advent Children but that's clearly due to Cloud and Sephiroth fangasm instead of actual consistency. Spirits Within had nothing to fall back on yet made more sense overall.
He probably left. Technically a lot of what was cannibalized so you could say Nomura had a part in making XV but didn't stick to the end. Tabata's rather dull vision took over.
Idk, i liked Spirits Within a lot and while it doesn't have a lot going on i never felt it needed anything more.

It's Tabata since 2014. So no wonder the movie sucks balls and the ONA is basic as shit. The game will probably suck ass too.

Tabata took over in the transition between Versus and XV.

Nomura was given his own team and the Osaka studio for Kingdom Hearts 3.

Basically FFXV is the new FFXII where the original vision has been gutted due to staff changes.

FF VII AC was just there for making money on a hyped franchise. It was a fan-pleaser but viewed as a "normal" movie it was terrible. Just like Kingsglaive.

I had a good laugh when Nyx tried to reverse up the wall of the building, and an "oh snap" moment when the giants started warping around. But man, I couldn't unhear Cersei whenever Luna talked.

The "movie" has flaws, same as any other, but as usual for Sup Forums you'd rather talk about the things you hate instead of the things you liked. Most importantly in forming your opinion, you saw Lunafreya. "UGLY! wtf I hate this now!!!!!" And there's nothing else to discuss when you've reached that conclusion.

I thought it was fine. Longer than I expected for a CGI movie and even if the characters lacked any depth (ALL of them), the real reason I pirated the movie (fight scene, lore build, special effects) were all fantastic. Saw Cerberus, Ultros, Diamond WEAPONS, a few Knights of the Round in giant statue form, a strange techno/magic armor suit that was fucking awesome. I'd suggest a download.

>fight scene, lore build, special effects were all fantastic

The fight scenes were always the same. Throw a knife, teleport to it, swing a few times, throw it again, shoot lightning.
The lore buildup? There wasn't any lore buildup at all. There was nothing that you didn't know before watching the movie. It was just a story about characters that won't play any role in the game. I try to view it objectively. I had fun watching it, but that doesn't mean it's good. From a critics standpoint of view it was awful. A fucking mess.
It was an entertaining popcorn flick but i would not watch it at all. In the end it felt like a waste of time.

I guess when you carefully select images of people in the middle of speaking, just about everyone looks silly! Unlike the still images with strict attention to rendering a beautiful face.

Going by the credits, there were different actors for voices and facial mocap, I guess that's why some of the lines didn't match at all, also sometimes the intonation of the lines didn't seem to match the characters's expression either

Were you a fan of Kingdom Hearts?

> carefully select
I just saw this shit last night, user. There were a ton of scenes where she looked absolutely hideous, akin to Bioware's latest trend in creating ugly women.
You can't deny the game render looks superior in every way and even that gif you posted doesn't come close to Stella.

>original vision
You do realize that Nomura was willing to toss out literally everything just so he could make a shitty musical, right? He had no vision whatsoever.

Yeah, Why?

You don't like musicals?

>musical
I would be down with that. Anime doesn't have enough musicals. Am I going to have to rewatch that one episode of Kurenai for the fifth time?

FF has a real problem with plot and characters, I can't stress how garbage and hackneyed they are. They might work in the context of a game but they can't hold a movie, they need more effort than that.

Sure, user. Sure.

So are Blu-Rays out and subbed already? How are people watching it?

>The fight scenes were always the same. Throw a knife, teleport to it, swing a few times, throw it again, shoot lightning.
The single scene of fighting between the General and Nyx? What about the fight between the WEAPONS and The Knights of the Round? The giant tornado summoned by Crowe and the other magical girl squad? The gunning down of people by the bad robots? The clashing claymores when protecting the King?

As for "nothing I didn't know before watching the movie" that's just an inherently wrong statement. I'm not trying to play everything and study everything about FF XV before it comes out. I'll watch trailers, download Kingsglaive and play the demo. The movie sets a tone for how villages still under Lucian "protection" feel when only the capital city has the barrier, what kind of King Regis is, establishes Lunafreya's (dull) "not afraid to die because I believe a miracle will save me" character-type, and thankfully kills off the characters created for the movie so they don't compete with the game's dynamic. We see pomp and circumstance of the chancellor, the feigning wistfulness of the bad king, the level of devil-dealing they've stooped to with their demon-summoning. The state of this city when our game heroes return.

>I had fun watching it,
>It was an entertaining popcorn flick but i would not watch it at all.
You just can't keep a consistent thought going.

>In the end it felt like a waste of time.
I guess you had better things to do than download a 2 hour movie that you had fun watching and thought was an entertaining popcorn flick.

Digital version is out and already ripped

wow that was fast nice I can watch it -

>english dub

well shit. How is it?

I just think Stella looks so much like the blonde girl in KH2. 3 years after that Stella design was scrapped and a change to that character, now called Lunafreya, has occurred and been in use for a huge amount of game trailers, bullshots, artwork, even a movie now (which, itself, changed her look as well)...you're still very quickly bringing up how much you prefer the Stella design. A design so reminiscent to KH2 blonde girl that it makes me think you are a huge fan of Japanese anime and the overal female design of Nomura's Kingdom Hearts girls.

No, especially when I was promised a game instead. And Nomura's idea of musical anything is unbearably awful, as the KH musical numbers demonstrate.

The dub? It's fine. As you can imagine with any Japanese to English dubbing animation, the lips don't always match up and even some eastern mannerism tropes can look jarring to a western audience, but the voicework itself is decent enough. As with most animations, the more over-the-top a character is, the better they come across.

Yet another proof that 3D in all its forms is cancer.

I think it was decent, my expectations were way lower.

Advent children was a masterpiece, Kingsglaive looks good though.

youtube.com/watch?v=hVMwPXzgjzE

uh, this is for you

Stella's design changed several times too. The last time we saw her (5 years ago) she looked like a droopy Downs Syndrome sufferer with weirdly mutated ears.

>The single scene of fighting between the General and Nyx?
Between General and Nyx? Did you mean the scene were he shot lightning out of his hands? I have no idea what scene you mean.

>What about the fight between the WEAPONS and The Knights of the Round?
Did you mean the shooting?

>The giant tornado summoned by Crowe and the other magical girl squad?
Summoning a tornado to do the work is fighting? When fighting is considered holding hands in the air, breathing heavily and eventually collapse, than i'm a master at fighting.

>The gunning down of people by the bad robots?
People get down by robots. In my eyes, this doesn't count as an action fighting scene.

>The clashing claymores when protecting the King?
I accept that.

About your other argument, that the movie indeed helped to build up the lore, or whatever the fuck; I think that everyone has a different opinion on that. I think it wasn't necessary at all. The majority of the movie was about Nyx running around and save the princess. This didn't build up the lore for me. I learned more in the 5 minute intro than in the rest of the movie and what i learned wasn't exactly new to me. Two fighting countries. People flee because of the war. The Capital is the last stronghold. Could've been explained in the game as well. I understand that they need to kill the characters of, but because of that, i didn't care about them. I knew that i won't play them in the game so why the fuck should i care? It's not like they had a nice character development/ buildup that made me emotionally attached to them. I think the movie isn't good and i hoped for the better. If it helped you to understand more then it served its purpose, i guess.

>You just can't keep a consistent thought going.
I screwed up there. I wanted to type that "i would not watch it again." Not "would not watch it all". My bad.

Mostly because advent children centered around the stigma affecting children, it seems to have gone in a totally different confusing direction.

>Masterpiece

Like, C'mon dude. I liked Advent Children, but it's no masterpiece.

Both left and right columns? Got a thing against polygons? Wish this was anime?

even though the ff verse is large, I can't help but feel for sephiroth.

I liked it. Probably because I had absolutely no expectations of it. It suffered from various things, the most glaring being the characters. I didn't feel a thing for a single one of them.

Yeah. I usually like Nomura's designs even when they look kind of similar. Luna is something new and maybe it's nice to have a fresh approach, but i liked the old design more. Just a personal taste, i guess.

Looks. Super pretentious, i cant stabd it because I dont like this new reboot, its not even the game that I signed in for.

Yeah I guess you're right, I have no objective reason to label it as such

But i liked that design.

Why does she look like a barbie doll? In chara she is just a copy paste of yuna from ffX.

Sponsored by Audi.

>Between General and Nyx? Did you mean the scene were he shot lightning out of his hands? I have no idea what scene you mean.
I assume when you tell me your impression of the entire film's fight scene amounted to "throw knife, teleport to it, slash a few times, shoot a lightning bolt" you must've been referring to how the fight scene between General Glauca and Nyx played out. As that was the regular pattern of the their fight, which found itself chasing about in a car, riding on top of giant mechs, inside and outside buildings, clashing and otherwise still a change up. The other fights that marginal resembled that was when Nyx teleports to his thrown dagger to assassinate grunts.

>Did you mean the shooting?
The Knights of the round didn't ever shoot anything. They had a claymore, a mace, a giant axe, a smaller sword...the Diamond WEAPONS opened their shoulders and fired hundreds of rockets but that was literally the only thing "shot" in that entire fight across the city. Everything else was akin to giant swordmechs fighting Kaijuu.

>Summoning a tornado to do the work is fighting?
Yes. It's like you only watch Jackie Chan flicks. And I bet you'd make millions if you can show the world your abilities to magically conjure up a tornado.

>People get down by robots. In my eyes, this doesn't count as an action fighting scene.
Gunfights, shooting civilians, having bullets reflected off the King's personal barriers and suppression fire isn't an action scene. I see you're just contrarian, then, and this is my last post in response to you.

Just because this movie wasn't "necessary" it filled the job it was made for; entertainment. The anime FF Brotherhood episodes aren't necessary, but they're still out there and fine little shorts to watch. Builds the same amount of lore (maybe more) than the movie. Just a relationship dynamic...and completely unnecessary because it "could've been explained in the game as well." In the end, you just sound disappointed.

It's fine, they're not trash like Funi dub, SE at least hire real actor for this.

What Barbie doll? Because she's blonde? Because she is walking forward in a tight fitting dress to exaggerate her small waist and large hips? What is she supposed to look like; a dark-haired asian girl in a sailor school uniform?

And if you think these Yuna because she holds a staff/trident and knows her role is to talk to summons and be prepared to die, I guess you're right on that point. Doesn't make her a "copy-paste" of her, though. In fact, I'd say that's the ONLY character trait they share.

The game does explain both the character dynamics from Brotherhood and the KG events, mind you.

>With FF Advent Children you at least somewhat knew the characters because you played the game. With Kingsglaive you just didn't care at all.
So it's about a game that hasn't come out yet?

It works just fine. It also helps that the characters aren't Japanese and look very western. Still wonder how much Sony paid for the likes of Sean Bean and Lena, they must be pretty fucking expensive.

>When fighting is considered holding hands in the air, breathing heavily and eventually collapse, than i'm a master at fighting.
Yeah, good luck wasting all of your MP and limit break on each single target while I'll just wipe hundred of you with a single maelstrom.

I know. All the non-game related media for FF XV is just there as advertising and entertainment. This user seems like he's making an argument companies shouldn't place ads in newspapers or billboards, let alone create OVAs, commercials or spinoff material.

>this is my last post in response to you.
Neat. Then i can have the last words. Overall, man, everyone has different tastes and if you enjoyed the movie it's good for you. I just found it to be incredible boring, watching a tornado do the work, bullets not being a threat because they can just be deflected easily. And if the fight choreography stays the same but the surroundings change, than it's boring in my eyes. FF AC did it better somehow. The knights of the round had a standoff and then got shot down by robots (i think it's this scene i still have no fucking idea.) Very thrilling action. If you're able to be so highly entertained by such mediocre movie, then i really envy you. Wish i would be so simple minded and could enjoy bad movies. I bet you enjoyed Suicide Squad.

FF XV is not out yet and you won't play the protagonist from the movie. Or any of the characters you saw Not counting the end credit scene.

So which one do you people prefer?

youtube.com/watch?v=WpFD6Hcx-Fc
youtube.com/watch?v=E9HQbSTxvXI

I don't know if this because I heard the ENG first, but I think its line/dialog are more interesting than the JP.

Japanese. You americans have shitty voice actors.

Are you asking what "Final Fantasy XV: Kingsglaive" is?

It's a CGI movie made as a pre-cursor story leading directly into Final Fantasy XV. It's about Nyx, a warrior in the drafted special unit of orphans and strays from outside villages, who fights on the frontlines of the war and is called back to act as a personal bodyguard for Lunafreya, a princess/queen. When the encroaching army offers a peace treaty, obviously full of deceit, the King reluctantly accepts in order to save his citizens and more importantly, his son Noctis (and Lunafreya). The movie culminates in the treaty signing being a ruse, Lunafreya is kidnapped and Nyx is in pursuit protecting her and fighting to save as many people as he can.

There are a few characters created for the movie and all but 1 of them die before it ends. It's meant to be an isolated story as far as the characters are concerned, but it assists in setting the stage for those interested in Final Fantasy XV, set to be released later this year (assuming no more delays).

didnt know this was out, thanks champ

>I bet you enjoyed Suicide Squad.
Holy shit, I take back my greentexted statement. I never even watched that shit.

Kingsglaive will is better than XV for sure
I miss old FF versus.

God.

The lucis people were so much cooler dressed in suits rather than this shit.

Not that user, the giant statues are the Knights of the Round. He's not talking about the treaty-signing scene. he's talking about the scene after Nyx puts on the ring, talks to the Gods and summons the "Old Wall." The Old Wall is literally giant statues in the shape of a few knights from the Knights of the Round summon in FF7. The giant statues, or Knights of the Round, then fight the "robots" which were the giant demons air-dropped into the city.

Ah, okay. Thanks for clarifying that. I was really confused why he thought the treaty-signing scene would be a good action scene. Makes more sense now. Thanks, user.

The English is better. All except for the "genki" boy because that trope is fucking annoying as shit, so it's easier to ignore when it's in Japanese and I can pretend he isn't as fucking gay as he really is. The rest sound fine, if a little rushed.

Despite our different opinions and the argument we had, this actually made me laugh. Thanks for that.

I don't take anything personally. It's fine if you didn't like Kingsglaive. I'd likely feel more like you do if I had any hopes for it. I went into it with no expectations and as a result I just ate a pizza and watched the explosions. When it was done, I deleted it. Good enough for me.

Is that guy next to the king and in the beginning of that clip an older version of the main character? He looks a lot better than his emo fuckboi version.

Yes. You get to play as older Noctis during the game. It's unknown if it's a permanent change or where exactly it occurs, but yes. And everyone agrees.

You guys like Stella because you can't have her. Were Luna scrapped you'd be crying "WHERES MY PERFECT WHITE GODDESS"

Magic crystals, not even once.

>grapple gun not hooked on to anything
>Batman already swinging away
Every time

My opinion is that movie was created to get as much as they can from S-E's another failed game engine. Same reason why there was 3 FFXIII games - Crystal tools was failure so they reused assets as much they could.
KH3 is with Unreal, right?

That slays me, too.

Why don't they just get Ito to head another FF game?

Are the guys who made FFIV considered separate from the rest of SE too? Another non-online FF in that sort of universe would be great.

Obviously I meant XIV and XI, not IV.

whats Stage 6 to sony? never heard of them

>he couldn't be voiced by Christopher Lee

What a shame.

Well considering Christopher Lee died a year ago, I don't see how. Even if they did production of this while he was still alive, he was probably in no shape to be doing anything. I do agree though, that character screams Christopher Lee.

>I don't take anything personally.
I hope no one is so stupid and takes anything personally on an anonym imageboard.

I feel so out of touch not knowing all this new bestiary

It's just Diamond Weapon, man.

So that's why they called it "Daemon".

I dropped off after XII

Diamond Weapon is from 7

>movie is shit
>game will be shit
>FF VII Remake is fucking episodic

Final Fantasy is shit now and Square is destroying it more with every new game. I just hope they don't do the same with Dragon Quest XI and Kingdom Hearts 3.

>>FF VII Remake is fucking episodic
What? Where do you got that from?

It's so nice to discuss about FF XV without FF XV-kun and Nomura-kun ruining everything.
