Like, look at his entire original crew. There's a disgraced, depressive ex-cop who just wants to die for him, a diseased kid he picked up off the streets, a rich-boy genius who got cut off by his parents for assaulting a professor, and a guy who got unfairly booked for a quadruple-murder.
All of them are unified in how they were at their lowest when he reached out to them, and how indebted to him they are. He actively headhunted Mista because he saw his potential to work for him and knew he didn't have an option of saying no. All of them adore and respect him because he was their savior, and all of them bar Fugo wind up prepared to die for him, with two of them actually doing it.

I know he's a good guy who genuinely cares for his men and for humanity in general, but the level of power and influence he has over his squad and where he gets it from is kind of creepy. I guess I see him as being an extremely manipulative character, but in a good way that's usually for the benefit of the people he's manipulating.
It has its downsides though, in some parts of Vento Aureo the characters showed a pretty shocking disregard for their own wellbeing, look at Mista in White Album.

It would be more interesting to have Buccellati be VA's Jojo with Giorno still being Dio's son. Then it would be the strange dynamic of a Joestar and Brando working together as allies as opposed to vicious rivals.
Also, I know that it's still Jonathan's cock but wouldn't there be some sort of weird side effect of having a vampire father? Like sharper teeth or an aversion to sunlight? I feel like there was so much potential here that anyone could have filled in the blanks with but Araki purposefully ignored it.

Honestly, given how vampirism works in most fiction it makes more sense that offspring of vampries (dhampirs, they're usually called) would be biologically indistinguishable from normal humans.
Dio was born a human, and changed into the form he's in now due to a weird mask that pierced his brain. While the effects it had on him were extreme and permanent, they were environmental rather than genetic. Like if you chop off a mouses tail, then its babies will still be born with tails. You're right though, would've been kind of cute if Gio had some mild vampire-like traits though, like maybe his favorite food could've been black pudding or something.
