"ISEKAI IS SHIT!"

I heard you talking shit like I wouldn't find out.

Are you trying to imply those aren't shit? Ask yourself if anyone would watch them if not for the waifus, because nobody would.

u

Your post is as stupid as "who would go to a restaurant if not for the food."

I'm sorry you're so insecure about your taste OP

KonoSuba would probably still be good if the three main heroines were all boys.

Haha I love le waifus im such a weeb hope senpai notice me xD

It's enough to know my taste is objectively better than yours.

konosuba has shit waifus and is generally shit but I'm guessing Sup Forums's standards have fallen low enough that it stands head and shoulders above the rest

(it wouldn't be so bad if it weren't constantly going on about "this isn't like my isekai fantasy at all!" the thing that makes these series shit is that they don't even aim to have plot. worldbuilding, relatable or realistic or even interesting characters and are simply content to tick all the boxes of other series with similar stories with a new coat of paint)

Should I watch Konosuba? I like Re:Zero.

can't hurt to try

Wouldn't Digimon be considered Isekai?

The authors of Konosuba and Re:Zero are good friends. I ship them.

Emilia and Megumin share the VA.

Also, both are meant to parody/criticize the typical otaku protagonist. Both juxtapose its MC with a cliche overpowered "hero" white knight to underline the fact that the MC is NOT a hero.

And while Re:Zero is pretty controversial, KonoSuba was widely accepted as pretty fun, especially considering it came from studio known for ruining everything they touch.

It sold so well S2 is already announced.

...So yes, you should.

Isekai needs a power-fantasy component where the MC/s otherwise are useless or weak in their daily lives. There also needs to be a slice of life element as well.

It's getting there, but I can't see much Slice of Life in Digimon

Similarities:
>thrown into new world
>new world is substantially better than old world
>get lots of friends

Differences:
>the new world is connected to the old world
>protagonists weren't friendless losers before
>protagonists are children, rather than young adults
>no easily accessible romantic options

Especially the last two options make this different from the scorned manchild-pandering isekai types.

>Isekai needs a power-fantasy component where the MC/s otherwise are useless or weak in their daily lives.
This.
This is the most important feature of isekai.

Yes. And it was great

So by that metric, Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari is not an isekai since Kenshi is a mary sue everywhere.

No. Konosuba is unfunny as fuck.

konosuba was pretty shit. It got okay towards the end. It was saved by megumin.

Re:zero is okay. I wouldn't consider it isekai because they pull away from that and make it more fantasy. It's not like SAO or knsb where you're constantly reminded you're trapped in some fuckin game

Re:Zero is shit.

>muh megumin

She's just the newest meme character like Hestia.

Right is ok left is trash

Hestia is ugly as fuck. There's a difference.

Only "good" isekais out there are Slime and LH

>Re:Zero is pretty controversial
care to elaborate?

Mushoku Tensei anime when

Those two are shit.

Only good isekai is Twelve Kingdoms

I hope never

The only controversy comes from its edginess.

It's the true and tried Evangelion-Lain-Digimon Tamers-Madoka make it edgy formula.

Konosuba is the most overrated anime of the year.

Both of the two greatest animes ever.

I just want an Isekai anime with good character/armor design.
Not generic shit that looks like F2P RPG caricature.

Yeah, this.

I don't consider Twelve Kingdoms to be Isekai, since it's way too good compared to other Isekai shit

Both are good. The only reason people hate on them is because the want to be different so they hate it. Because you know being different makes you cool. Ok brah we get it.

It's a deconstruction user. That means they can do literally everything the same as your typical isekai, but it's ironic. I know, this is highbrow stuff, not for moeshitters with no taste.

Re:Zero was amazing for the first 7 eps precisely because it wasn't really isekai trash. It was an amazing whodunit. After episode 7 it became typical Isekai wish fufillment and has been shit ever since.

Konosuba's popularity is 1000% due to the girls. Has absolutely nothing to do with it being isekai.

Try again you mouth breathing chuunikid

Interesting point. I'm was not sure which of those two aspects I should've called the defining aspect of isekai, but I was pretty sure that it's one of those two:

Either further empowerment from a somewhat average baseline,
or empowerment as a huge contrast to a previously lower than average state of power.

But then I realized: Both are a form of power fantasy, because the states that should be compared are not two states within the universe, but rather the state of the viewer and the protagonist.
In the first case, the viewer gets the feeling of empowerment through simply self-inserting into an average guy, whom he doesn't hold up to in his real life, but shares some aspects, like hobbies. In the second case, he self-inserts into an unempowered protagonist likened a lot to him, who then becomes empowered in place of the viewer.

It should also be noted that just because a work has "isekai" in its title, doesn't mean that it is one, because "isekai" is not the sort of term that becomes applicable by the creator simply saying that it should be categorized as such, contrary to a term like "anime of which the creator says that it's isekai".

I like how the anime only guy got a revolver but he was too insane to do anything worthwhile with it by that point.

Konosuba is way better than Re:Zero, it's the best comedy in years. I enjoy Re:Zero, but mostly just as this crazy roller coaster ride, not because it's really good or anything.

>best comedy in years

Dungeon Meshi is far better at comedy than it.

> because it wasn't really isekai trash. It was an amazing whodunit.
I don't know what the fuck you were watching, but Re:Zero is no mystery anime where there's a genuine puzzle to be solved.
It was recognizable as isekai right from the second scene on. The way they transitioned from the normal to the fantasy world should've told you that they, in typical isekai fashion, will totally disregard the normal world from that point on, which they also managed to do. Save for a single 1-second flashback to the shop, there is literally no callback to the normal world in 24 episodes so far. Heck, we know almost nothing about the normal world. We weren't even shown his family, and we are not going to be, because the normal world has been abandoned by the story.

Consider the following:

>The MC is a college student with a retail job and girlfriend. The Mc has been dating his girlfriend for awhile now (3 years+), and is rather indecisive if he want to keep being with her (As she's rather pushy and tries to tie him down) or try to seeing new people and do new things on his own.
>One day when his girlfriend tries to confront him on their relationship and if they should continue pursuing it. Before the MC can say what he wants to do, his girlfriend is Isekai'd through a portal by a mysterious entity and kidnapped. The Mc follows her and ends up a in a high fantasy world, where he runs into a girl who is basically a fantasy version of his girlfriend (She's a complete opposite of the real one) who is involved with a conspiracy going in the world.
>The plot of the story focuses on the MC trying to locate his girlfriend that got kidnapped. While doing that he spends time with the girl who is the fantasy version of his girlfriend, and other people which makes him evaluate himself. What does he want to do with his life, and his relationship with his girlfriend and if he should go after another girl after saving her.
>Its a journey of self-discovery, improvement, and relationships with fantasy. MC also doesn't have any powers and is average.

Now would you read it?

Real world anime is shit

And from all the examples you could have use to "defend your point" you pick those two? You are a retard.

I found the two shows compliment each other really well.

All I see in that pic is isekai trash overrated by memesters

I know, sadly being ironic isn't the same as being good.

oddly enough I enjoyed the anime only content for the added dose of nihilism and the final scene with the imperial decree that tied into his eventual fate resolved that storyline in a way that was satisfying for me at least

I love threads like this that are guaranteed to be full of shit flinging.

If it was enough you wouldn't be making this thread. You clearly lack too much given your need to sustain yourself through shit posting.

These are my thoughts exactly. I'm surprised people aren't pointing this out more, maybe they have and I can't find it between the 15 threads of shitposting, but I was expecting this to be the consensus.
The real thing that I hate about Re:Zero is that it starts so promisingly, only to turn into the same old shit. It just takes a 180 into shounen edge and never looks back. Woah crooked necks and biting your own fingers?? So messed up!

Compare that to the subtle and unsettling way Subaru bleeds out in the loothouse. His panic and terror at the idea of dying is something we don't usually get to see the MC of a series like this grapple with. And yet, it makes perfect sense. A nobody kid transported to an alien world would most likely end up dead pretty soon one way or another. Its frustrating to see them throw away a great premise like they did. But the worst part is that people actually prefer the same old narrative so why would they bother doing anything else?

And reminder that you literally can't make the setting go industrialization because they don't have the materials like we do.

Or at least, not as easy. Only Youko has modern knowledge after all and now she's busy with saving Taiki.

Give her a couple hundred years without her going crazy and maybe the world will advance.

No, consider THIS:

>MC and friendos are doing generic Japanese teenager shit in generic Japanese town/city setting
>MC's best friendo is above average in most things and all the girls in their friendo group have crushes on him
>MC is below average or just doesn't really stand out
>one day MC and best friendo are walking home
>MC turns away for a second, probably brooding about how he's the cuckold in their friend circle
>turns back at best friendo and he's mysteriously vanished
>quick scene where best friendo is thrown into another world
>immediately goes back to MC
>anime is generic slice of life about boring-ass MC and his group of friends adjusting to life without their missing friend
>MC slowly learns to come out of his shell and stand out more, learning that he's unique in his own way and doesn't need to stand in anyone's shadow to define himself

I would.

At this point I'm starting to think that Re:Zero is the most overrated anime of the decade. Even more than SnK and SAO, I mean, at least with those two there's a general consensus that both are trash but with Re:Zero there are people who unironically think is somekind of "masterpiece" of the anime.

Is she gonna be dejabu?

Konosuba was this year's sleeper, no really expected it to be good and it took everyone by surprise. It has a visibly low budget, but the jokes and timing are pretty good.

Best anime comedy, then.

I mean, it would be better if it weren't isekai, and had non-exposition worldbuilding.

>KonoSuba would probably still be good if the three main heroines were all boys.

Darkness would be 100x creepier which would equate to being 100x more interesting of a character if Dark was a guy. Megumin would be the same regardless of her gender. I mean, you can only explode one way. Aqua would definitely take a hit since Kaz looks at her as the heroine that just won't work out romantically for him.

Do you really need to make this thread everyday?

ITT: Contrarian posting

So I watched Konosuba when it was coming out, and then I heard about Re:Zero from this pic actually. So I marathoned it last night, blind. I was thinking it was just gonna be another fantasy world fish out of water story with a dorky MC and a harem of girls. I was not expecting to have my heart kicked in the balls over and over again. Ep 15 is just crushing.

I'll drop the act. I liked both.

But this two series brought in a lot of normies and their culture to this board so it can't be helped.

>one day nest friend comes out of nowhere with a harem of bitches, and congratulates MC on pushing through ahead without him, iting that MC was his reason to keep on living on the other world.

>normies
You can drop the act plebbit.

Looks like I'll be back to my subreddit

kiznaiver pretty much had the male version of darkness already and it was definetly 100x creepier

>REEEE:Zero
>Not shit

just like NGE

good riddance you fucking normalfag

It is. Sup Forums is trying to give too much definitions to isekai trying to make it something that should only be hated.

>Reddit:zero

How has this sub been influenced by /r/anime? The Sup Forums and Sup Forums crossboarders have been far more destructive if anything.

>fish out of water story with a dorky MC and a harem of girls
And that's exactly what you got for 12 episode straight.

Sup Forums have been crossboarding for years, user. It's because they believe that anime is the true redpill.

don't tell them that the most famous anime director worldwide is a socialist

>How has this sub been influenced by /r/anime?

Sup Forums has been increasingly liberal and slowly becoming like leddit/tumblr. You can even see them bitching about why mods aren't doing a good job whenever they get offended, see a spoiler, get triggered, etc.

Hitler was a national socialist. Sup Forums tends to favor those who are nationalists

>Sup Forums has been increasingly liberal and slowly becoming like leddit/tumblr.

I see you Sup Forumsfags are mad we're complaining of you hijacking threads with your shit.

That scene had me laughing for hours, the pacing and quality rollercoaster with this series is astounding

Since Sup Forums's traffic has increased insanely these days due to the elections and world politics in general, it has drawn in a fuck ton of normies from the mainstream social media. Like for example when Sup Forums got tagged by CNN after hillary exposed the 'alt-right'. I bet those normies eventually seeped through other boards reaching here.

>implying becoming increasingly liberal leftie is good
>implying being increasingly like leddit/tumblr is good

Sup Forums historically leaned left (but anti-SJW/moralfag) before 2009 or so, and as one of the older boards Sup Forums still bears more resemblance to the older culture. No one here likes leddit/tumblr SJWs, it's just that you think anyone to the left of Mussolini is conspiring to destroy the white race or whatever

>implying we will ever go full tumblr

I want Sup Forums to stay in the middle

>The pacing
so was it confirmed the last 2 eps are 50 min?

Re:Zero is the worst anime I've ever seen.

only episode 25, i think

>I've only seen 10 anime

I just want Germany to stay on the middle.
t. Adolf Hitler

I just want Russia to stay on the middle.
t. Stalin.

I just want France to go the path of rationality.
t. Robespierre

What?

...

I like my Isekai to explain why an adventure guild exists.

Everyone thinks of his position as the rational, mostly moderate and definitely not extreme center position. tumblR thinks that, Sup Forums thinks that, reddit thinks that, we think that. Funnily enough, every group mentioned has the sense of smug superiority from being part of the enlightened few that see through it all, while everyone else is just a sheep.
Why? Because people tend to hang around with their peers only, who affirm and reinforce each other in their beliefs, which leads to a lot of epistemic problems.

Just saying: Always be careful when you simply wish for the middle position. It may not always be what you think it to be, no matter from which camp you actually are.

Hilarious, that confirmation bias.

>Just saying: Always be careful when you simply wish for the middle position. It may not always be what you think it to be, no matter from which camp you actually are.

Fine. I'm still conservative since I believe in religion.

>considering it cam from a studio known for ruining everything they touch

You know, funnily enough, as much as everybody likes to hate on Studio DEEN, I consider a rather decent amount of their series as my favourites.

>sub
Please leave and never come back.

So what's your favorite isekai/fantasy LN/wns?

Mine in no particular order:
Rising of the shield hero
Regarding reincarnated to slime(or slime tensei, as most people know it)
My pet is a holy maiden
This world's magic is too behind
Common sense of a duke's daughter
Lvl 999 villager
Do-over of the spear hero
Magi's grandson
2nd time hero (nidome no yuusha)
Conquering the hero's heroines
Overlord
The girl who ate death

Those two are peak isekai and probably the best ones in its genre, head and shoulders above the rest of the cheat harem beta MCs, I'm glad both got adapted first.

You're a big guy
