Not in every. In Yugoslavia, the common folk were very happy. The atmosphere was positive and the Western Capitalist states already lost that after WW2.

They were independent from Moscow and that's it. It's true that they had mixed economy but for their "welfare" they had to pay later. Same thing happened in our "colorful" 70s. Lots of borrowing that paid for a lot of new goods, colorful tv, exotic fruits etc but soon that debt had to be repaid.
