ITT: anime you don't understand
Why do they speak so fast? I can't understand.

It really wasn't that hard to understand. Maybe if you picked up a book once in a while you wouldn't read at the speed of smell.
What is the speed of smell?
>not being a slow reader
Pleb.
boku no pico
I'll give you a hint, it's porn.
You must be 18 to post on this website.
I swear this show is so pretentious
And you don't seem to understand
what do you not understand about it?
how fast is smell
>at the speed of smell
It varies depending on the mass of the molecules of a gas, a gas with lower mass molecules will diffuse into the air faster.
The only reason to not understand Tatami Galaxy is if you are still in highschool or if you're retarded.
evangelion.
I still dont get it
what's not to get?
...
He didn't say he didn't like it, just that he didn't get it. To be honest, I'm not sure if anyone does. Not even Anno.
They spell out the message for you at least twice twice, either you're retarded or you weren't paying any attention.
The series is pretty shallow, it's mainly a pretty straightforward analogy for social interactions and inner turmoil that impedes or comes from it. All the rest was nonsense, more or less.
Watched it over 20 times and I still don't understand it.
I know you want to be hip and cool by memeing about popular things but Eva's not particularly shallow
what ?
>I know you want to be hip and cool by memeing about popular things
Except I don't
>but Eva's not particularly shallow
Except it is
What's not to understand?
Some shows are hard to understand because they were meant to be weird.
Tatami Galaxy wasn't. Just watch it again, it makes total sense.
Except you are
Except it isn't
I'm not claiming it's 2DEEP or fucking anything but it's certainly got more complexity to it than most
You can have septh without being drowned in metaphor
don't judge me . i discovered that i'm very stupid after watching this
don't judge me . i discovered that i'm very stupid after watching spice and wolf
>What's not to understand?
why people watch shit like it in the first place.
I'm not saying it has no depth, I'm saying it's just very straightforward. Eva is about interpersonal relations wrapped up in Anno's Go Nagai x Ultraman fanfic with a lot of visual imagery that is 99% pointless visual flair.
I'm not saying it's devoid of depth, I'm just saying what is there is on the shallow side as long as you aren't comparing it to fotm generic trash.
What's the meaning of the symbolism in the epilogue? What's up with the dancing? Why does Love go well with solitude? Did Homura do what she did solely because of her desire for Madoka to be happy, or did she also want to have Madoka all for herself?
Ergo Proxy, still enjoyed it tho.
Eva is a pretty good anime with some really innovative parts and some pretty major flaws.
What is even to understand?
It's only shallow if you're comparing it to pretty heavy shit. If you're going to cherrypick the pool you're comparing it to so that it contains only the 2deepest of animes, shallow could describe it, yeah. But in a general sense it's really not.
Oh
With a lot of that all I can really say is wait for the follow up, you watched half a story.
Since when is Tatami Galaxy difficult to understand? The story telling was quite straightforward.

It's easier to understand if you've wasted your life like MC. You should probably be in at least you mid twenties to understand this show.
I usually don't like artsy shows, but this show hit me harder than even Welcome to the NHK. It's probably the only anime that's made me change my view on life. Well except Evangelion, but I watched that when I was fourteen.
I think I've gone through almost all the things MC goes through in this show. I even blog about it on Sup Forums sometimes.
It has a very high "you need to be this Japanese to understand the joke" line.
Weird, because I swear you're just too slow to get it
>All the rest was nonsense, more or less.
It wasn't, you just don't get it.
Just enjoy how cute the girls are.
I did, it was visual flair that people read too much into. When the creator keeps changing what meanings of shots are and says he himself doesn't know for a bunch, that means there is no more depth to it that was intended.
It has the meaning you give it I guess. It's like music, even if the artist meant it to mean something, you can interpret it a different way.
I really can't stand artists who say their music means that and that. They clearly don't understand art.

Monogatari
It seems like every single scene in that show is a string of loosely related tangents that end in some obscure pun or reference or a character doing fanservice.
There's nothing to understand except for the fanservice part.
That's why I dropped it.
I don't think I understood Kaiba. It was all over the place and I'm very sure I didn't understand the symbolism. I probably need to rewatch it. Anyone have any interpretations that makes sense for me to understand the show on a second watch?
That's not really true
Common opinion though.
Fuck man, I kind of get what you mean. It really hits hard when you watch the anime when you're at the mid-way point of what the MC is going through. And it's not guaranteed that you'd learn as much as the MC did by the end.
Elaborate.
Calling EVA Readerly is hogwash considering it has its main metaphors and analogies that are expressly writerly. For it to be Readerly those "deep" images would need some framing and some interpretations intended by the writer that are left open, but Anno literally meant nothing by them and revert few years he goes "this scene meant this, No wait this means this, wait I don't know what this means".
I enjoy parts of it, but sometimes it's a really weeaboo show (wapanese). You'll have to know Japanese to get the jokes.
I usually get the Cultural jokes though. Since I've watched too much anime, I unwillingly know a lot about Japanese culture and traditions. Like an anti-hero, I'm kind of like an anti-weeaboo.
That's not true, even disregarding all the references. The problem with Nisio's themes is that he often tries to "invent" new philosophical concepts, which often ends up nonsensical.
She's a whore, Lawrence alright with that, not hard to understand.
I girl I was i love with in Uni got married two weeks ago. We never got together because I didn't pull my shit together ;_;
What a shame
The author of TG's actually wrote his debut work on that, actually. It's called Tower of the Sun but it's unfortunately not translated to english. The entire novel was basically him retelling his university life and the trials and tribulations he went through before finally getting over the breakup.
While it has a slightly different theme from TG, it felt even more 'real' and gritty while having that same beauty of human interactions. I hope it gets translated one day for everyone to enjoy, because it's one of my favourite books.
I've watched 5 centimeters per second a couple of times. That deal with it enough I guess.
It's happened a lot of times, this wasn't the first time I've let a girl slip by. But she was probably the "best" girl I've let go.
First things first, what did you think it was about?
You may understand but be looking for more to it.
Pretty much all the supernatural problems they deal with are metaphors for various problems in adolescent life
I dropped out of law school the moment I finished the series. It will forever be my favorite anime for helping me realize that was the decision for me.
I think we all miss more than we're comfortable admitting, as it's inevitable for non-Japanese viewers to lack certain context for many shows. Only a select few things made me feel stupid though, like Liar Game. Holy fuck that manga was confusing.
I more or less did the opposite. I had finished med school though. I just learned to live with that I had wasted so many years of my life doing nothing, and was grateful for the fun that I had had.
Six years ago I watched almost every anime show that aired for example. I really should've done something better. Now I just watch a couple of shows a season.
I hang a bit too much around here though, but that goes in waves.
>>What's the meaning of the symbolism in the epilogue?
Homura falling off the deep end into the abyss. Most people wouldn't do it willingly or would do it in horror, she just happily pranced and let herself fall into it. It reflects her state of mind as she made the choice to become who she is.
>What's up with the dancing?
In general? Leaving aside the fact they're magical girls and so dancing's within their repertoire of pointlessly elaborate moves, there's a shitton of references to the Nutcracker throughout the Rebellion movie, mostly centered around Homura and her Witch form.
>Why does Love go well with solitude?
Because the story is about sacrificial love, both Homura and Madoka are martyr-complexed toward an individual and the collective respectively and that leads to solitary desires which don't meet in practice. Loving someone who gives herself away for something is a lonely love.
>Did Homura do what she did solely because of her desire for Madoka to be happy, or did she also want to have Madoka all for herself?
She doesn't have Madoka to herself since they don't have a close personal relationship anymore and she was willingly becoming her enemy going against Madoka's principles for the sake of saving her from absolute lonelyness and endless servitude. Homura's sacrifice's purpose is for Madoka to obtain at least a modicum of happyness back in a mortal coil.
Don't say stuff like that user, you might make me rewatch it.
I've just watched the first season, cat ovas and Nisemonogatari, oh and the really bad movie. I just quit at the first episode of season 2.
I just got really tired of Shaft being Shaft. I've watched so many of their shows, and I really get tired of their one-trick-ponies. It was kind of funny in Natsu no Arashi!, but now it's getting stale.
>I've just watched the first board, Sup Forums and Sup Forums, oh and the really Sup Forumsad board. I just quit at the first post of page 2.
>I just got really tired of user being user. I've watched so many of their posts, and I really get tired of their one-trick-ponies. It was kind of funny in Sup Forums, but now it's getting stale.
The only shaft show I have really enjoyed was Arakawa, and that's likely due to its source material being so stellar.
Only boards I frequent are Sup Forums and /fit/ though. I've been here for almost 10 years.
I got you m8
There were aliens called the First Ancestral Race. They were gods. They realized they were fucked. Why were they fucked? We don't know, it doesn't matter.
They launched out 7 Seeds of Life. Each Seed was, well, supposed to "seed life", and each Seed possessed "Doors of Guf" from which souls came. These souls were donated by the FAR.
Each Seed has a Fruit of Life or Knowledge. Fruits of Life grant Immortality and Infinite Power. It is the S2 Engine. Fruits of Knowledge grants science or something.
It doesn't really matter what each fruit is. What does matter is no two seeds are supposed to land on the same planet.
But they did. Adam and Lilith, the 1st and 2nd angels, both landed on Earth. This would have been okay, but Adam had a Fruit of Life, and Lilith a Fruit of Knowledge. And when a form of life gets both Fruits, they become gods like the FARs. Which is why this union is forbidden. Anyway, Adam arrived in the White Moon, and Lilith in the Black Moon. White Moon landed in Antarctica, Black Moon where Tokyo-3 and NERV HQ would (intentionally) be built.
That was First Impact.
Adam stayed inert. Lilith bled a shit-load of LCL (her blood), the primordial soup of life. All life on Earth was derived from LCL, including Humans as we think of them. We are Lilin, the children of Lilith. Collectively, we are the 18th angel. Angels are also human, but in different forms.

The first two seasons are considered the best anyway. (bake and ss)
Nise is the author's fanfiction he didn't want to publish and was convinced by friends into doing it. The rest are ovas and whatnot.
It's true. It's pretty blatabtly true, really.
If you don't like the characters/presentation/visuals already though I doubt it's enough to save the show for you.
I was actually really impressed with Black Hanakawa, because it made it seem like it was going to be a metaphor like the others, but the twist is that having a second magic personality wasn't a metaphor for having to bottle up who you are and play a part different from how you really feel, it was actually what was happening and the supernatural element was just her excuse. That solidified it as one of my favorite shows.
But you do have to sit though a bunch of langauge gags you might not understand and legitimately pointless fanservice in places (particularly in Nise) to get to it. Like I said, of you've seen a bunch already and you don't already like it, that's unlikely to change.
The AT Field is the boundary of the soul. The soul is actually real in NGE, the science of Metaphysics is based around it and it's study. All life possesses an AT Field, whether a Seed, Adam-Based like the Angels, or Lilith-Based, like the Lilin.
Second Impact was when SEELE initiated a Contact Experiment to transplant Adam's soul into a Lilin vessel. This would produce a Lilin/Seed hybrid, like how Rei is Lilith's soul in clones of Yui Ikari. The hybrids possess traits of albinism, weird anime hair, red eyes, and extreme AT Field manipulation abilities. This hybrid would come to be known as Kaworu Nagisa.
They also used the Spear of Longinus to de-age Adam to an embryo. This caused the Second Impact, which SEELE knew would happen, but was preferable. Here's why:
The Spear of Longinus is a device meant to "reboot the system", so to speak, in the case of a glitch.
The Dead Sea Scrolls are the instruction manual, like a README file.
Due to the Scrolls, SEELE knew the Angels would come in 2015.
If they reverted Adam to an embryo, they could move him to the Geofront, to protect him.
I hope you're not typing this out yourself because this shit is available on 5000 different websites and the fact that he hasn't bothered checking any of them shows that he's a lazy piece of shit who will not appreciate the effort you're putting into this.
Im just copy pasting
>The first two seasons are considered the best anyway
That doesn't surprise me. I think it took a pretty good nosedive in keeping my interest. I like ecchi moments like the next pig, but you can't keep me interested with just that.
thank god
Why? Because if an Adam-based Angel comes in contact with a Seed of Life, it causes one of two things:
The Seed is Adam, he is awakened, and releases an Anti-AT Field.
The Seed is Lilith, and the Angel takes her Fruit of Knowledge, becomes a god, and releases an Anti-AT Field. This reverts all Lilith-based life to LCL, letting the Adam-based life take control.
While SEELE did want Instrumentality, they didn't want it controlled by the Angels. So they saw Second Impact as a necessary sacrifice.
After that, GEHIRN (the precursor to NERV) created the Evangelions. All Units are "cloned" from Adam, except Unit-01, a "clone" of Lilith. They're not really clones in the technical term, but we'll run with that since it's the show terminology.
Unit-01 absorbed Yui Ikari into it as it's resident soul. Unit-02 absorbed part of Kyoko Soryu's soul, psychologically breaking her. Once she killed herself, the rest was absorbed. Unit-00 contained the soul of Rei I.
The Pilots are mentally fucked up. This makes them instinctively reach out for their mommy inside the Evangelion. Yes, all of Class-2A has dead moms, since they're all pilot candidates.
They need the emotional connection with their mom, so if they start to come to terms with their issues, they start to suck at piloting.
Hence why Asuka starts to suck especially after the incident with Arael.
They don't have therapists on staff at NERV, because that would lower the pilot's abilities. But once they realize their mom is there and connect with her consciously, their sync ratio rises dramatically. So they could let the pilots see therapists AND tell them their mother is inside the Evangelion, but that would require revealing pretty much everything to a 14 year old child, who would probably go mad from the revelation.
In the end, SEELE gets the JSSDF to assault NERV, so they can make their play for Third Impact. Rei III, who will now be referred to as Lilith, refuses Gendo. Gendo has been plotting Instrumentality not as an end goal, but as a means to recover his precious Yui.
Lilith merges back with her body, and now merged with Adam, becomes Giant Naked Rei, a god like the FAR. GNR decides "fuck all of you, Shinji is the only guy here who isn't an asshole, so he gets to decide your fate." Except he's so fucked in the head at this point that he asks Lilith to kill everyone, because he's that far gone.
And since Instrumentality is the death of self, everybody reverts to TANG! But in Instrumentality, he realizes this is not true happiness. In the world without AT Fields, there is no pain or rejection, but that means there is no true happiness or acceptance either.
So GNR let's him go back, since he is the ruler of Lilin's fate. But since everyone going back wouldn't solve the problems that people have, there is one caveat. You can only come back if you can imagine yourself in your heart. You can only come back if you have the will to live.
And ironically, of all people, only Shinji and Asuka could. And he was terrified. Here was the girl he loved so much, yet kept abusing him time and time again. He needs to know that she can still hurt him in this world, so he starts to choke her. He's trying to provoke a reaction, anything to confirm that she can reject him.
But she doesn't reject him again, like he was trying to confirm. She caresses him, lovingly. She finally understands him. And he breaks down.
And she says "How Disgusting".
In case you didn't know FLCL is the same thing, except with puberty specifically
So what was the point/message?
Seemed like just more "don't be a hikki" propaganda.
That last bit with the choking and the disgusting I never got and still don't get
You sure are having an easy life user. With some hard life anyone could understand the message from the series.
Meanwhile is much harder to shallow makes me wonder what the fuck is Kumeta thinking upon finishing SZS.
what did he mean by this
Tatami Galaxy makes perfect sense, honestly. It depends on how you took it, but what I gathered is that Watashi never actually did any of the club stuff that we see in the episodes. He spends the entire time fantasizing about doing it, but doesn't because he's scared to associate with people. That's why the clock turns back at the end of each episode, and why it doesn't turn back when he finally does escape the endless tatami rooms and go to be with Akashi and Ozu. That's also the first time we see Ozu as a normal person, which I think is because Watashi is finally seeing the world for how it is. Simple shit.
And their talking wasn't even that fast. I understood them perfectly. Keep up boi
It's only the first episode he narrates really fast. It's symbolic, so it's rather important, but afaik the fast narration was immensely unpopular and they speeded down.
You can interpret it like that instead of as supernatural I guess. Art should be up to interpretation.
>but afaik the fast narration was immensely unpopular and they speeded down.
Slow readers should kill themselves.
Agreed, and I think the supernatural aspect is a perfectly acceptable interpretation too. I just like the psychological one better. Either way I think the show is brilliant and one of Yuasa's best, and I don't get how people are confused by it/don't enjoy it.
AYY LMAO
I think he meant the fast talking for Japanese viewers was unpopular. Remember that the target audience is rarely going to read subs when they can understand the dialogue.
rapid subs are a pain too, your gaze is glued to the bottom of the screen and you can't take in the entire picture.
What the fuck is the point of K-On!
I'm not trolling I legitimately don't understand the point of the show. I don't know if it's a good show or a bad show, I just don't understand why it got made, I've only seen three episodes but I seriously don't understand why/how people watch that show.
