I gots me a theory

>inb4 I'm a autistic faggot

Sup Forums, I have cooked up a halphazard explanation of why shit's been going down like this recently.

So, right now due to Trump/Brexit we got a fresh streak of socialists whining about how it's society's fault that some people come out as complete wastes of space and since they didn't du nuffin we all gotta help, with the conservative minded people going "no, it's all their own damn fault for being lazy niggers".

My pet theory is that this is a culmination of a 1000 year old cultural grandstanding between those who propose we have free will and those who believe in destiny and fate and all that shit aka determinism.

Now see, if you believe you are in control of your life, you will inevitably come to a conclusion that you will need some fucking house rules because how else are we gonna get anywhere if there isn't a directed effort to do shit. That's how morality/principles/whatever get developed in a person and aid them in telling right from wrong. That's where Aristotle's virtue ethics come into play, which waaaaay down the line will develop into Nietsche's Overman and existentialism and so on. Why those philosophies? Because that branch of Western thought at its core focuses not on the specific things that you have to do, but on the person you should strive to be. Then there is a 1000 years of arguing what the alpha dude should be like.

Now if you believe its all predetermined, then obviously through curiosity you will try to understand the rules so that you aren't surprised when shit goes down next Thursday. And that line of thinking starts off with Plato, then there is the whole "state of nature" thing, and then we get to 20th century flame wars over what is a correct set of behaviours to adhere to in a perfect society for everyone. The determinists want to create a perfect system, that will give birth to a better human, rather than a perfect human that will come up with a better system.

Both sides are right, success has a lot to do with both dumb luck and prior preparation.

P.S. read the book of Job. Even good people go through shit for reasons that they never make sense of. And everyone still points and laughs at them when it happens. There's no making sense of it. It's just gibberish.

P.P.S. Read Slaughterhouse 5.

I like you

Now, on the surface it looks the same, cuz it's all people trying to come up with a set of rules, but the two groups have means and ends on opposite sides. And when you grow up, depending on your surroundings, you adopt the views of those you love. But of course, everyone was a pimpled teenager questioning the taught morals, and had to come up with their own. But don’t worry, the smart people in suits have thought this through, the Matrix got your back on this. Current establishment has a pre-cooked narrative for all those young hot-blooded revolutionaries, thanks not the least to the postmodernists of the late 20th century that deconstructed the old beliefs and proclaimed an age of rational ethics and banishment of the dark ages.

And the narrative is quite low-effort, really: “Life’s unfair, current power structures are to blame, come express your civil unrest if your lot has been shit, buy our merch while you are at it, don’t worry, 1% of money goes to Uganda to feed lil nuggets.” It’s a nice social undertaking that doesn’t require commitment except on weekends, and lets you brag about how good you are for doing all the good things to your good friends. And so people get together, the community is strengthened, everyone is having a jolly good time until another haram truck shows up.

However, some people fall out of this structure. Not because they are enlightened, are you kidding me, faggot? (Red pill my ass, go outside once in a while or smth) Those who don’t fit in also congregate in various margins of society, may it be Sup Forums, weird local forums, autistic geeky after school hobbies, but unlike the well-adjusted members of society they didn’t manage to get an instruction manual in time, or they got it, but found that it sucked dick (people in suits aren’t very engaging writers). All that unites these people, be it Sup Forums, or Sup Forums, or elsewhere, is not a NatSoc ideology, or some ANONYMOOOOSE bullshit, or some retarded Gamergate cancer.

The only thing they have in common is a feeling of misplacement. That’s it. That’s why anyone who tries to give trolls and btards a name like “Anonymous” or “Alt-right” or some other retarded shit like “kekistani”(jesus fuck why) is a miserable failure from the onset. There is no deeper meaning except that people who were so amicably recently addressed as “deplorables” are trying to somehow align their internal compass and go on living.

(here is the crux) Yet, because of recent efforts of sociologists and modern philosophers and such, we have arrived at a state where personal ideals and values are a priori discarded as fabrications of the Leviathan that is society, merely as internalized footprints of your parents, teachers, stupid kids at 6th grade, and that weird old man who lived next door and liked his collection of porcelain clowns a tad too much. You are not entitled to those ideals, for they are a joke, a ridiculous patched blanket you made without having the slightest clue, and if only they teach you right, you’ll make a much better one.

And then Brexit actually happened. And then Trump came in. The logical thing occurred: people thought they figured out the world and had it by the balls, and were found wanting. Now everyone here in Sup Forums is rattled, because IT’S HAPPENING.

Cuz if you take the sacred things, things that we hold dear, empty promise is all you'll find. So give me something to believe in.

No, you're dumb. It's coalitions of spiritualists/moralists/authoritarians/collectivists/emotional babies versus coalitions of materialists/pragmatists/ibertarians/individualists/stoics.

Why those categories specifically tho?

Because reality. This war has been going since 1789. The French Revolution fights on.

Sometimes I think we are just cells in great virtual beasts.

Neuroscience will move determinism into end-game.
That is, technoprogressives will want to genetically modify you so that you're no longer racist. The desire for rehabilitative justice will result in a much more tyrannical type of justice than the one we have today.

French revolution certainly played a huge role, but I wouldn't divy it up like that, there were "spiritualists" and "materialists" on either side.

We can be cells if we want to, nothing wrong with that.

That would make a cool cyberpunk anti-utopia. I am thinking of Demolition Man but super bleak, like those Murdoch Murdoch vids.

No ideological school has ever been 100% on one side of a conflict.

I think you're biggest problem here is drastic oversimplification. Contrasting doesn't have to be Kantian dialecticism.

Neuroscience will prove free will, so says my money.

I agree, the simplifications I made are pretty terrible. I didn't intend to put it exactly as "determinism vs. free will", but that came out the closest to what I had in mind.

Man, I just have this jumble of thoughts on how come the idealistic heroes aren't around much and why we don't do the whole "you can do anything if you try hard enough" thing anymore. And I have this hunch that it has something to do with people believing either that there is an order to the world that fucks some more than others, or that there is no meaning or order and we make one ourselves through deeds so might as well just do whatever we want.

Better question is, does it matter if we are fre or not? It's not like we'd be able to tell the difference.

Neitzche didn't believe in free will, idiot. The will to power is inevitable, everything is just the inevitable interplay of atomic forces.

Has there ever been a day in your life when you chose to be different?

For the brain, everything is a reorientation problem.

I started buying chicken sausages instead of pork ones. Does that count?

Yet again, that could have been a decision forced by the buildup of sodium in my body.

...

Despite that being an interesting theory, you are still an autistic faggot OP.

>Has there ever been a day in your life when you chose to be different?
I've done this before. You have to force yourself into it, but when you do, it's refreshing. I don't know anyone else who actually does this or even tries though.

To piggyback a bit - this is why Trump bothers libcucks on an emotional/religious level.

He exemplifies the power of free will and effort. He is a constant reminder to leftists that they're wrong to the core.

Other examples:

Xenophon
>Student of Socrates
>Lead small unit of Greek mercnearies BTFO all of Persia

Alexander the Great
>Student of Aristotle
>BTFO & Conquer all of Persia

Where are Plato's great students?

It seems you are right, although I am not an expert on Nietzche. However, he talked of the free will "which rules but is not itself ruled". The way I interpreted it, the will to power can be weakened or strengthened, and thus "freedom" is the ability to change.

>Where are Plato's great students?
I consider Marcus Aurelius to be entirely representative of the philosopher king as described in Plato's republic

Well played, sir.

Well, duh, who else spends an hour of life rambling on Sup Forums.

Yeah, that was kind of my point, but it felt retarded to just attribute it to Trump.

Lol at believing philosophy is relevant in 21st century.

>being this much of a brainlet

...

Philosophy is nothing but irrelevant wordplay. Science and technology is all that matters.

Wittgentstein would love you bruv.

I've been thinking about this again recently, since my life has always been a series of routines. When I was a teenager I considered the possibility that it was all a simulation. Mostly because there were many experiences denied by my circumstances, and only a set distance I had ever been able to move through the world. I started to think that maybe there was nothing but unfinished rooms outside of my little bubble, and if I walked far enough in that direction, the places I saw on TV won't even be there. Because why bother rendering the whole universe when its a waste of processing power? Or maybe it just cant be done. This of course only aligns with us living in our own small universes. Meaning there would be no point in my post here, because anyone who bothered to acknowledge it is just part of my simulation anyway. Unless our minds exist somewhere else and still manage to communicate.

Regardless, it was my strong belief that routines built themselves around me, and tried their best to trap, and otherwise keep much from changing. But I found something, small changes made no difference in altering the present. Reality could easily correct for them, or otherwise overwrite any attempts to change. But push back in a big enough way, by making life altering choices faster than the system could keep up, and suddenly you're free for a little while.

For me those choices were crazy things I never would have done normally. Like running away from home and trying to hop the US boarder. The repercussions of those actions as a child were too much for life to stay the same. So reality adjusted, and had to build whole new walls, in new places. As a result life did change, and new routines were introduced.

Whether you believe it is or isnt a simulation, that should be enough evidence for you that its possible to change your life and situation. If its not changing, youre not making big enough choices.

Reality is not a simulation. We are simulators, constructing virtual universes in our heads based on limited sensory information we accumulate.

Look for the bugs. You won't find them in physics, but they're in every brain.

That was deep, man.

Not as deep as your mum's vagOOO
