Because of the strange connections with Podesta and the DNC, I think the DNC setup a fake meeting with "Russia Officials" to try and use against Trump later.
He didn't fall for it, but news of it leaked and they had to investigate. The question is whether or not they'll go after the people who brought the lawyer into the country in the first place, or the people who funded the Trump dossier.
