People argue that if you make drinking/smoking while pregnant illegal, then women who do drink and smoke while pregnant, who want to stop, will not seek help out of fear of criminal charges. I know a few kids who could be the poster children for FAS, it's quite sad. I often wonder if the children's doctor have said anything to the parents about their probable condition. I think it should be a crime and if not prosectuable when the mother is pregnant, when the child turns 18 they should be able to press charges or something.

It's retarded but doctors don't recommended retarded women who can't stop smoking to go cold turkey because the stress from withdrawal with harm the baby even though the chemicals will give it permanent side effects. When the mother is stressed the baby gets stress and shits inside her womb which can also kill the baby from infection.
