Medieval people called it the "blue sickness", "the Pestilence" & "the Great Mortality". Today we refer to it as the Black Death or the bubonic plague.
The greatest threat humanity has ever faced has returned once again. The last time the Black Death descended upon Europe in the 1300s it killed 1/2 to 3/4 of the population.
The plague has broken out in Madagascar, and in the last 5 days the number of cases has jumped 40% for 6,500 case to 23,000 cases. Plus the plague has begun to spread to the continent of Africa. Unless measures are taken this plague will continue to spread.
Now given the lack of border controls in Europe at the moment and the current migrant crisis, how long before the plague spreads across Africa and reaches Europe?
Shut down travel to Africa. Anyone over there can't come back. No economic repercussions will be had for us because its fucking Africa.

Black Death killed something like a third of white Europe in the 14th Century. The survivors inherited their stuff though and did really well. In fact, they sparked the Renaissance. So there's your upside.

Yeah. It is really fast acting. The incubation is 5-7 days, but once it kicks in, it kills fast. This is a problem because someone could get on a plane feeling fine and get to Europe or the US and then die of it four days later. I don't know how long they would be infectious. But they could die in a hotel room or something. There are all kinds of ways it could get here and start to spread.

"The Black Plague" couldn't have killed as many people as it did. 1/3 of the population in Europe died and the plague could not kill that many people[.] There were alot of climate issues and poor crops yields going on in that period not to mention volcanism. It has been concluded (near enough) that it was a whole host of issues, diseases, diets, gases and general pestilence of era that brought about such a decline.
