I don't think that's true. Trump has been practically impossible to ignore from day one. He was the only one saying the things he was saying, he has an enormous net worth, making him able to buy all the media coverage he wants, not to mention he was a prior celebrity anyway and consistently topped nearly every poll in the primaries.
I think the real sign is that they've continued to constantly bitch about Trump and fight with him. There would be no need to do so following the election if he really was controlled. The only difference between the two though was the amount of influence they'd have over the president.
