I've seen a good explaination video on youtube about the rise in popularity of these, I can't find it now though because I'm not sure how the title was worded and searching for the topic isnt specific enough.
One indian channel started making fingerfamily song videos and getting millions of views with youtubes search algorithm. He kept doing it and eventually people caught on and started to emulate it. When you have enough keywords, lets say related to spiderman, and a spiderman trailer comes out and shows it to their child or a child clicks is, the next thing that pops up in the que could be a weird spiderman video made by the indian.
anyway, they had to start going more and more graphic with the content to get children curious enough. needles, pregnancies, pooping. all things kids want to know about, or are at least inquisitive. This is what generates the clicks. The curiosity of children. And now that all children have access to phones globally, they're all behaving as some kind of botnet. Youtube and the advertisers love it, and so do the indians that make the videos. The ones that made millions of dollars early on are now the ones making other companies to do the same thing again.
I think if you search for "Origin of fingerfamily videos" You will easily find it. I'll reply it to this post if i see it in the next few minutes.

Also, it's been reported extensively and youtube doesn't care.
